…20 Moments In Time…

So I've just caught up with the 20 participants who posted for the UBUNTU Blog hop. The posts were magical, entertaining and empowering… an outpouring of love…  just overflowing with Ubuntu…

This is a special thank you to the hundreds of bloggers who reached out across cyberspace… from all corners of the globe… to share in the spirit of Ubuntu. Some of you posted, while others took time to visit and leave comments.

Each one who posted had a unique and powerful message to share… there is a direct link to each post mentioned below, in case you wish to check them out…

From Denise Covey: Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl shot by the Taliban, has told the UN that books and pens scare extremists, as she urged education for all. Malala has been credited with bringing the issue of women's education to global attention. A quarter of young women around the world have not completed primary school. As a teacher, this resonates with me. Education is power.

From Julie Kemp Pick: An excerpt from Rings That Bind, a timely poem capturing the essence of the Olympics… without a doubt, sport is a great unifier…

Working toward a dream,
Battling nail and tooth.
They finally come together,
To seek their greatest truth.

From Elise Fallson: An amazing TED video and this charming illustration…

From Alex J. Cavanaugh: a simple story of Ubuntu online, one of many examples, which never fail to astound me "…humanity towards others came on Monday when so many rallied around Jeremy Hawkins and left comments of encouragement at his special tribute at the A to Z Blog. Over 160 people showed their support through the efforts of the A to Z Co-Hosts and DL Hammons’ Blog Blitz Team. You guys were awesome and really cheered up Jeremy!"

From Hilary Melton-Butcher: an in-depth exploration of Ubuntu complete with a TED talk and article. Highly educational. You should really check this out! I learned so much from this article! Some wonderful images too..

From Trisha: a reminder of collectivity that is the mark of Ubuntu…

From Michael Di Gesu: this beautiful, thought-provoking reflection of Ubuntu… which brings to mind this quote: "Ubuntu comes out of a philosophy that says, the only way for me to be human is for you to reflect my humanity back at me." – Chris Abani

From Susan Gourley: the wonders of the annual Penn State Dance Marathon to raise money for the Four Diamond Fund at the Hershey Medical Center.

From L.G. Keltner: an amazing piece, capturing the essence of inter-connectedness, which is at the heart of the Ubuntu principle. Just a little sample…

"Beneath the crystalline dome of blue sky, treading the same trampled ground, you will find them all, harmonizing together to create the magic of the everyday.
The baker, the undertaker.
The lawyer, a first class litigator.
The teacher, the preacher, the nonbeliever.
The barista, dispensing bright mornings with a smile.
The mechanic, the plumber.

The doctor, saving lives day by day."

From Elizabeth Seckman: who puts it quite simply, that "It's the concept of motho ke motho ka batho ba bangwe, or a human is a human because of other people. And sometimes, when it's all said and done…the best compliment a person can get is to be called human, or ke motho."

From Samantha Redstreake Geary: when you read this beautiful collaborative piece (words in response to music) titled Spirit Of The Blue Swallow… you will be transported to a legendary place… where dreams are born… where dreams are protected… where dreams take flight…

From Joy Campbell: who sums it up in these words… "With everything we do in life, our efforts are somehow combined with those of others. If we write, we need critique partners or beta readers. If we run into problems, we have close friends whose advice we trust. Even when we go shopping, there are times we take a friend because we need a second opinion or don’t trust our judgment 100%."

From Shah Wharton: a beautiful poem, Reign Together and a lovely video from John Legend, If You're Out There, with profound lyrics…

From Tyrean Martinson: a collection of random thoughts, highlighting the principle of give and take… "Have you ever noticed a boost in creativity when you are surrounded by other creative and busy people?
The blogsphere is filled with writers, teachers, filmmakers, indie and small press publishers, musicians, and all around creators. It's amazing. It's life-giving. It's inspiring.
I've noticed that when I give, I receive double-fold."

From Robyn Alana Engel: whose poem Mere Chance, made me teary-eyed…

From Stephanie Faris: a reminder that we're all in this together…

From Corinne Rodrigues: Reflecting on this, I begin to form my own definition of the philosophy of ubuntu: ‘an acknowledgement of our shared humanity…an openness to show you my vulnerability and be ready to see yours….our humanity is the string that binds us.'

ubuntu Understanding Ubuntu

From Vidya Sury: "Above all, Ubuntu implies compassion, giving and generosity. It is the legacy we leave behind."

                                                            ubuntu vidya sury

From Damaria Senne: "one of the lessons I learnt growing up was that Motho ke motho ka batho ba bangwe[A human is human because of other people] This meant that I was part of a community and that I would do better in the world when supported by my family and my community. Without them, I was nothing, even if on the surface I seem succesful."

From Jemi Fraser: who reminds us not to underestimate the power of Ubuntu amongst kids :"I'm lucky to be a teacher. I'm so often surrounded by joy and hope and the future. Kids are powerful and creative. At our school we obviously focus on the academics but we also focus on helping our students become kind and caring citizens."

So there you have it. Ubuntu in all its different forms.

If you haven't done so, visit one or two of these posts. They are AMAZING!

And I'm supposed to choose from all these wonderful entries? What have I done??? *sigh* What have I done??? I love them all…

I know… I know… I know… I said I'd choose one… *scratches head*

Basically, every entry is a winner! So I'm sending out 20 cyber-hugs to the participants!

But I will announce the one that resonated with me the most…

I loved them all. If I had the means, I'd send a prize to every participant… 🙂 But the reality is that I'll have to choose just one…

Hi Michelle – it certainly was a very good choice for your anniversary blog-hop – and what an array of postings … I still need to get to one or two – so I'm delighted to have your summaries here.  I was just amazed at the overarching thought processes everyone put into their posts – and then we had so many visitors … whose eyes could be opened to the possibilities of Ubuntu …

    Brilliant idea – cheers Hilary
