A Moonless Affair + IWSG Update + Codes In Chalk

Today I'm excited to help fellow blogger buddy Crystal Collier, with the cover reveal of her book Moonless.

Log line:  Alexia must choose safety and an arranged marriage, or true love and being hunted by the Soulless every moonless night.

Short Description:  Alexia's nightmares become reality: a dead baron, red-eyed wraiths, and forbidden love with a man hunted by these creatures.  After an attack close to home, Alexia realizes she cannot keep one foot in her old life and one in this new world.  To protect her family she must either be sold into a loveless marriage, or escape with her beloved and risk becoming one of the Soulless.

MOONLESS is Jane Eyre meets Supernatural.

Crystal Collier, author of MOONLESS, is a former composer/writer for Black Diamond Productions.  She can be found practicing her brother-induced ninja skills while teaching children or madly typing about fantastic and impossible creatures.  She has lived from coast to coast to coast and now calls Florida home with her creative husband, three littles, and "friend" (a.k.a. the zombie locked in her closet).  Secretly, she dreams of world domination and a bottomless supply of cheese.  You can find her on her blog, and Facebook, or follow her on Twitter.

And a while back, Crystal, who is a cheese afficionado, awarded me the Sweet Blogger Award! Thank you so much! But I have to confess that I have a savoury instead of a sweet tooth…

Here are the questions:

1.What is your fave dessert? I'm not really a dessert person, but from time to time I enjoy an apple crumble and fresh cream.

2.Cake or ice cream? I don't go out of my way to look for either, though I have been known to enjoy a magnum ice-cream with almonds.

3.When do you like desserts most? Not really applicable.

4.Would you choose cookies or cake? Cookies in the form of savoury biscuits like crackers.

5.Vanilla or chocolate? Vanilla, I like the smell.

Who can remember the days when pavement markings represented childhood innocence… a part of the outdoor games we played, (something today's kids have little knowledge of), like hopscotch and hoopoo? Now that's not the case!

Check out the following that's been doing our e-mail rounds.

                                                            http://oscar.ofm.co.za/img/a1__20131010133237368u77.jpg

Burglars are using coded chalk symbols to let other criminals know whether a property is worth targeting.

The marks, dubbed the Da Pinci Code, are made by would-be thieves to indicate if the house is vulnerable, revealing who is living in the house and whether there is anything worth stealing. If you notice these markings at your property, remove immediately!

… and Monday I'm off to the Oprah Show… from 7.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. a whole day affair!

                                         Enjoy your weekend!

    Hey, Michelle,

Seems you I are on the same wavelength today in terms of post subject. Didn't know about the Da Pinci code. As awful as this sounds, burglars here aren't that sophisticated. Everybody is a target.Give me vanilla over chocolate too and enjoy the Oprah show!

    • Michelle Wallace on October 13, 2013 at 10:42 am

The same applies here. Everybody is a target. No one is exempt.

  2. Alex J. Cavanaugh on October 11, 2013 at 12:31 pm

Now I know to look for those codes on my house. Sneaky.

Glad the Facebook group has really taken off!

And vanilla is a great smell.

    • Michelle Wallace on October 13, 2013 at 10:45 am

When I first considered writing a story, I really liked the idea of a "vanilla scented clue" as part of the mystery… not sure if I'm still in that mode… 🙂

  3. L. Diane Wolfe on October 11, 2013 at 1:09 pm

I don't eat chocolate, so I'm all about the vanilla.

We have an alarm system, so I bet our house would be marked as too risky.

    • Michelle Wallace on October 13, 2013 at 10:47 am

The burglars are professional… they have a way of beating the most sophisticated alarm systems… though I suspect that the majority of break-ins at well fortified residences, are an "inside job"…

  4. Carol Kilgore on October 11, 2013 at 1:43 pm

I love the smell of vanilla, too. How exciting to see Oprah! Looking forward to hearing all about it.

    • Michelle Wallace on October 13, 2013 at 10:49 am

Very exciting! I can't wait for that moment, when she utters those words: "And everyone is getting one!!!!"

  5. Robin on October 11, 2013 at 3:13 pm

Tempting to mark my own house and all of my neighbors with an Alarmed symbol or Too Risky.  Except maybe this one neighbor who irritates everyone in the neighborhood.  Just kidding;)

    • Michelle Wallace on October 13, 2013 at 10:51 am

LOL. We all have that "neighbour-from-hell"… in one form or another…

  6. joylene on October 11, 2013 at 4:22 pm

That's so kewl that you're off to see Oprah. What a thrill. Can't wait to hear how it goes. Have fun, Michelle.

    • Michelle Wallace on October 13, 2013 at 10:52 am

I'm sooooo excited! And I will definitely make sure that I have lots of fun!

  7. Crystal Collier on October 11, 2013 at 4:25 pm

LOL! I'd fall in the "nothing worth stealing" category. (Thank you kids.)

Thank you so much for sharing my cover, Michelle! You are awesome. =)

And Oprah? I can't wait to hear about it afterwards!

    • Michelle Wallace on October 13, 2013 at 10:54 am

You're welcome Crystal! I'm looking forward to my "Oprah Experience"! 🙂 Especially that moment when she says: Look under your chairs" and you see a mysterious envelope just waiting to be opened——— *claps hands in anticipation*

  8. Jossie Marie Solheim on October 11, 2013 at 7:44 pm

I'd mark my house with the sign for good target then let them get a shock when they met my rottweiler. Oh wait, I forgot, he's to good natured he'd no doubt just lick them to death lol. Maybe not.

I hope you have fun going to see Oprah you must be very excited 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on October 13, 2013 at 10:57 am

That would be a classic moment! Mr.Burglar meet Mr.Rottweiler… 🙂 I wonder who will back down first? Probably the burglar… I'm sure that even a good-natured rottweiler will rise to the occasion to protect and defend… don't under-estimate them…

  9. Mary on October 11, 2013 at 8:43 pm

    Woo hooo for Crystal!

I can't say no to chocolate.

I didn't know about the Da Pinci code. Thanks for the information.

Have an uber shiny weekend 😀

    • Michelle Wallace on October 13, 2013 at 10:59 am

I know you have a weakness for choccies… I remember you were one of the co-hosts of the Chocolate Blogfest… 🙂

  10. Tina Downey on October 12, 2013 at 2:31 pm

I love cheese!  I have seven different kinds right now…I also love wine, so it's a good pairing.  I can't eat sweets because I'm hypoglycemic…

Congrats on your new book, Chrystal, and on getting to go see Oprah.  Not a fan personally, but it's an historic occasion nonetheless.  Enjoy!

  13. Misha on October 12, 2013 at 6:00 pm

So annoying to see the lengths that thieves go to to steal our stuff. >_<

Clever of you to couple it with Moonless, though. I'm so excited to read the book that nothing can burst my bubble after I've seen the cover.

    • Michelle Wallace on October 13, 2013 at 11:03 am

      I know——— GRRRRRRR!

That cover is gorgeius… and the woman resembles Crystal… I wonder if it is her?

ENJOY OPRAH!!!! HOPE you get lots of goodies!!!!

    • Michelle Wallace on October 13, 2013 at 11:09 am

I can't wait for the moment when she says: Look under your seats, and bring out the envelopes. Inside is————- a ticket for two to your favourite destination———

Okay, on second thoughts, I'll settle for the $100 voucher inside the envelope…

Or even the box of chocolates under the seat…

      …beggars can't be choosers… LOL

  16. Lexa Cain on October 12, 2013 at 10:07 pm

I think you're the first girl I ever met who doesn't like sweets. I also think I received your sweet-loving allotment, 'coz I love them toooooooo much!

Have a awesoe time at the Oprah show!! 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on October 13, 2013 at 11:13 am

I do eat sweets/chocolates BUT I'm more of a savoury gal! I love my cashew nuts, popcorn, pretzels, simba chips… and other types of savouries…  🙂

  17. Shah Wharton on October 13, 2013 at 2:42 pm

I'm a vanilla girl too (well, with icecream)… So jealous you're going to see Oprah! Wow… And Da Pinci Code: Flip me, that's poop. I doubt they do that in Dubai… very little crime here thankfully. But I'll keep me eyes peeled. 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on October 15, 2013 at 9:36 pm

Love the 'flip me, that's poop' response. It made me chuckle. 🙂 Keep your eyes peeled m'dearie, cos you never know when or in what manner The Da Pinci Code will manifest itself on your "crime-less" shores!

Crystal's book is getting around! Good luck to her. The cover grabs me every time.

Someone who just got her tires slashed in my own parking space at home on Friday (Yes! and I had just bought new tires last month) am thankful to have info of things to look out for. You enjoy your day off, and make sure you get noticed by Oprah!

    • Michelle Wallace on October 15, 2013 at 9:40 pm

Brand new tyres slashed? Aaaargh, what a bummer! It's so not fair! And the Oprah show was AWESOME! Details to follow.

  19. Sherry Ellis on October 13, 2013 at 4:37 pm

Crystal's cover looks great!  An apple crumble sounds good.  I might just have to make one of those!

    • Michelle Wallace on October 15, 2013 at 9:42 pm

Just make sure it's out of reach… wouldn't want a certain somebody to get his paws on that!

  27. Denise Covey on October 15, 2013 at 3:25 am

Hey MIchelle, tried to comment yesterday, but my netbook is going too slow and wouldn't let me. I have seen Crystal's book around the blogs and have commented there. Love the cover and the premise. Sounds great.

I don't know about the IWSG fb and web. Man, I have enough stress posting for it once a month without popping in and out in between too. But I wish everyone well. I've joined it on FB but don't know how much interaction I will have.

Don't forget to tell all about Oprah!

    Denise 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on October 15, 2013 at 10:08 pm

I know what you mean about the stress… *sighs*

Look at the benefits… I get to sharpen my planning and time management skills… and by the way, I'm 95% ready for your month-end blogfest, just have to do some polishing… 🙂

  28. Elise Fallson on October 17, 2013 at 8:01 am

A magnum with almonds! I had that the other day with the kids. And my daughter is a big fan of vanilla, though my son is like me-chocolate all the way. (: Congrats to Crystal, hope she sells a ton of books! AND  OMG! You went to the Oprah show! Ekkk! I need to email you and ask you how it went and to catch up in general. That must have been great fun. (:
