Bluebell SSS Prompt No. 13 ~ An A-Muse-ing Encounter
The blue-haired muse had not a care in the world. She sat perched on the lowest branch of the tree, book in hand, legs swinging, relaxed and confident.
A group of her counterparts had gathered for their monthly discussion.
The conversation turned to their respective masters.
"There's one thing that baffles me," began the newest member ,"why are we labelled as elusive, almost hidden entities? We are to blame whenever 'they' hit a 'brick wall'."
"Knowing my master, I think it's a convenient "cop out", a reason not to go out and look for writing ideas."
"They don't get it, do they?" piped the laziest of the bunch. "They experience "writer's block" because we stop talking to them. Simple as that." He was chuffed with his comment. That was for sure.
"My one is smart. She's on to me. Big time. She knows exactly what to do in order to get me out of my lazy condition. She provokes me. Know how? By reading absolute "junk"… super-ultra-uber bad writing. I detest that!" They all nodded their heads, horrified. "I could shake her! How on earth is she going to polish her writing skills by reading "hogwash"?
They shook their heads, sympathetic and supportive.
"Well, I'm on strike," declared the rebel, proud and defiant. "She sat, stubborn, like a pitbull, in front of her manuscript, daring me to ignore her one more time! I refuse to succumb to any "fancy tricks" like that. I said, time out! I need a break."
"You think that's bad? Mine imagined me taking her by the hand and whispering "sweet inspiration" into her ears. Geez, I'm her muse, not her husband!"
"Talk about inconsistent and fickle… which is what mine calls me… How many times have I been woken from my slumber only to be abandoned in favour of more "material pursuits"… shoes! Off to the mall, is her famous line. And that's why I'm stubborn!"
The group stopped. They looked up at the blue-haired muse in the tree. She hadn't moved an inch, was absorbed in her reading.
She closed the book with a snap!
"Duty calls," and she was off like a flash!
The book was left behind. They inspected the cover. The title read: The Writer-Muse-Relationship… 100 Ways To Ease Your Writerly Blues.

This is wonderful, Mish. You did an excellent job of touching on many of the things that cause a writer to run into a block. A very well written and very entertaining piece!
