Blogfest Day 4 ~ D is for Dinner Dilemma

It's that time of the day . Again . Just 24 hours have passed . No sooner do you get over the hurdle , then it's upon you , again .  A never-ending dilemma . Day in and day out . Monday to Sunday . Seven days a week . Four weeks a month . Three hundred and sixty five days a year . And I'm not talking about the actual cooking process !! That's easy peasy . I'm talking about WHAT to cook . That's the most annoying , frustrating thing . So it got me thinking about cooks/cooking styles . So here's my version on the different types of cooks .

THE CHEF DE LUXE

This is the innovative , experimental , always-up-for-a-new-challenge type of cook , who can whip up a gourmet meal in half an hour , with the bare minimal ingredients . A slave to the DSTV cooking channel , this culinary creator possesses many well-used , oil-splattered , doggy-eared cookbooks which adorn two entire shelves of the five-tiered bookshelf . Jamie Oliver and Nigella – eat your hearts out !!

THE TAKE-OUT SPECIALIST

And by this I don't mean take out as in MacDonalds or Nandos ! I'm talking about the take-out-of-a-can/box/packet specialist . Very clued up on brand names and new products . Knows the entire range of Royco sauces-in-a-can , Country Crop veggies-in-a-packet and I&J fish-in-a-box . Royco garlic sauce ? Nah , too thin . Knorr cheese sauce ? Nah , too salty . Koo mushroom sauce ? Nah , not mushroomy enough . Brand empowerment is her forte' . Never a dull moment in this kitchen . And never a dull meal either !

THE PREDICTABLE PLODDER

You can tell , more or less , what's on the dinner menu for the week . Plods along , predictable as ever . Resorts time and again to the good , old , favourite recipes . Called life-savers . Week in and week out . You know the ones I'm talking about ? Cabbage ? Baked beans ? etc .You know those specific meals that never let you down ? But hey , nothing wrong with it ! Food is food . Though sometimes the palate begins to protest , furiously … Amazingly , this is the one you want , when you're feeling nostalgic … A good , solid , old-fashioned , home-cooked meal … (the way mum/granny used to make it)

THE QUICK-FIX FANATIC

The last-minute cook . Procrastinates . Cooking is the last thing on her mind ! Suddenly realises that she has one hour to go . Rushes around feverishly , throwing everything into the pot . One – two – three and it's done . Try getting this madame to give you a recipe . Won't work . The recipe changes everytime she makes the dish . Hell , she doesn't know herself , if she put three , four or five spoons into the mixture ? How is she supposed to tell you ? Finds a last minute solution – and it works – everytime !

So , do any of the above styles remind you of somebody ? What type of a cook are you ?

LOL! Love this. I'm probably all four on different days, although we don't do take out as much as we used to. Sometimes it's 'proper food' and other days it's 'box food'. As long as we occassionally get a real meal, I don't mind!

I suppose a mix of all four types is the way to go ! I also think that the amount of time available dictates the meal of the day ! Thanks India !

Haha! Love it! It really depends on the day of the week for me. Like this week, hubby is out of town, and we are juggling soccer games, soccer practice, gymnastics… I just don't feel like cooking anything, but I also don't feel like pizza all week.
I am going the quick fix route, so I can be done with it.
I am planning something nice though, for when the husband gets back later this week… and definitely grilling out doors–the weather is amazing.

I think the trick is to sneak in a nutritious meal somehere within the week ~~ sounds like hubby is in for a treat when he returns … LOL !

I love it!  I am definitely the quick-fix fanatic. I always get involved in one project or another and then BOOM! Dinner hour is upon me and no time to cook.  You peeked into my kitchen window, didn't you?

I'm the quicky fixer upper, I mean  quick-fix fanatic.
I hate making dinner and everyone has a complaint about it anyway – I am not a short order cook!
    Happy D Day!

Those who moan about it should try slaving over a hot stove day in and day out ! LOL! I suppose you either love it , hate it or endure it ~ I fall somewhere in the middle …

Cute post!  I guess I fit into all of the categories in some ways.  I aspire to be the Chef De Luxe, and most often am a Quick-Fix Fanatic.  Cooking is a lot of fun!

You are one of the smart cooks ! I’ve always wondered if it would be better to prepare the menu week by week … seems like a plan . It’s a solution to the problem of WHAT to cook ! Enjoy the rest of the challenge Mezo . 🙂
