BRING AND SHARE … IT’S PARTY TIME ! – Writer In Transit

BRING AND SHARE … IT’S PARTY TIME !

So it's party-time over at Tara Tyler Talks . She's celebrating her one year blogaversary !! We're all invited and we get to swap recipes … So I've settled on my tried-and-tested , good-old-faithful recipe that never lets me down , because

~ it's always a hit at family gatherings

~ it's a great side dish that goes a long way

~ it's suitable for vegetarians , diabetics etc.

~ it's a quick and easy stove-top method

~ it's a great accompaniment for a variety of mains from steak to         roast chicken to grilled fish to barbecued meat …

So , without further ado … I present … *drum roll* …

MACARONI A LA MISH

INGREDIENTS :

2 cups macaroni          2-3 Tablespoons of flour

Garlic , parmesan & origanum seasoning (I use Robertsons spice)

half litre fresh/long-life milk

grated cheese   1 T. margarine or butter

salt and pepper for taste     1 teaspoon oil

METHOD :

Bring water to the boil . Add macaroni , pinch of salt and teaspoon of oil . Boil until a la dente' . Transfer macaroni to a greased oven-proof dish .

Prepare the white sauce as follows : In a bowl , add flour and mix to a smooth paste using a little water . On the stove-top , bring milk to the boil . Drop the heat , remove pot from stove and add the paste . Return pot to stove . Stir continuously to avoid lumps from forming . Add garlic seasoning to the white sauce . Continue stirring . Add salt & pepper to taste . Stir for 3 minutes . Add some of the grated cheese and continue stirring . Let the white sauce simmer on this low heat for another 5-8 minutes until you get the desired consistency (not too thin) .Add the white sauce mixture to the macaroni and stir through . Sprinkle the remaining grated cheese on top . Place dish in a pre-heated oven on grill and leave until cheese has melted and top has turned a light brown colour . Remove and … VOILA' !!

And here's the final piece of logic : remember , after the snacks and light pastries have disappeared … and you are really feeling for something substantial , this dish ALWAYS works !

I figured that we’d need a substantial dish of sorts … there’s a wide array of delicious snacks , biscuits , dips etc .
