Deja-Vu Blogfest 2012

Welcome to the Déjà vu Blogfest…the day to re-post one of your previous blogs from this year.  Which one? How about your personal favorite…or one you feel didn’t get the recognition it deserved…or one that garnered the most comments. The choice is totally up to you.  For more info, go to D.L. Hammons where you can also check out the other participants.

KANGAROO KEEPER

If you are an animal lover, stop right there! This is definitely NOT the kangaroo you are looking for. This is not that large, muscular-hipped, with a long, thick, sinuous tail, huge feet and big ears that swivel about on a deer-like head creature, that you are expecting to read about. Get that thought out of your head – pronto! Exit this post – immediately!

If you're a "desperate-female-whose-bag-is-always-upside-down-in-spite-of-being-in-possession-of-that-oh-so-wonderful-invention-which-is-guaranteed-by-Glomail-to-ensure-that-the-contents-of-your-bag-are-orderly-and-readily-accessible" — then you'll identify with this post.

Despite having a kangaroo keeper (kk), my bag remains cluttered. Must be something wrong with me. I still collect a stash of envelopes and other odds and ends. The only difference being that there's a sort of organised chaos amongst the contents. Look, I'll admit that the kk is quite handy… when used correctly…

So while I was thinking about the "correct usage" of the kk, I had a brainwave. Maybe one of those uber-geeks, you know the whizz kids who are hot on gadgetry? One of those brainiacs? Could invent a uber-futuristic electronic gadget, to help organize the organizer (does that make sense? sounds kinda nutty?)

Anyway this hand-held device would operate in a similar manner to that clipped, monotonous, hypnotic, staccato-styled voice you hear on the telephone, when you are put on hold as caller no.20 in the queue. You know that dead-alive voice that says : your.call.will.be.answered.in.one.hour.five.minutes.and.twenty.three.seconds. The initial command will be: your.bag.needs.organizing.immediately.please.comply.  *giggles*

Maybe a procedure of some sort, as follows:

1. To find out the status of your contents, press once. You have 2 options: option one — sort.out.your.bag.immediately.it.is.in.a.shambles; option two — your.bag.is.organized.thank.you.and.goodbye.

2. If you choose option one, then you have 3 further options: Option 1.1 –basic tidy technique — if.you.have.chosen.this.option.then.you.are.either.dumb.or.lazy.either way.get.rid.of.your.kk.it.is.of.no.value.to.you.you.will.manage.better.with out.it. Option 1.2 — advanced tidy technique — if.you.have.chosen.this.option.then.you.are.dumber.than.dumb.proceed the.same.as.basic.tidy.technique. Option 1.3 — the simple truth — if.you.have.chosen.this.option.then.read.the.following.ten.steps.that.will. help.you.keep.the.contents.tidy.

step one — put some time aside

step two — focus on the task at hand

step three — work in a relaxed atmosphere

step four — avoid distractions

step five — empty all the contents onto a surface

step six — DOES NOT EXIST  !!!  NOW JUST SORT OUT THE DAMN THING  !!!  IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE AFTER ALL !!!

                                  Glomail - Fresh Hanger

                          *          *          *          *          *          *          *

(Confession time: my kangaroo keeper is still in a sorry state and crying out for help… I just can't seem to get down to doing it even though I've tried… *sighs*)

Yup, glad I don't need one of those!

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 10:40 am

What about a "man-bag" (whatever that is?) Okay, I guess not! 🙂

  2. Shelly on December 14, 2012 at 5:46 pm

    I've got one of those.

    Hugs and chocolate,
    Shelly

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 10:41 am

Does it work? Please let me know… 🙂

  3. DL Hammons on December 14, 2012 at 6:20 pm

Run to the patent office right now!!!  🙂
Loved your re-do! Thank you for taking part today!

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 10:42 am

Hey DL, are you offering to design it? Are you the uber-geek I'm talking about? 🙂 Thanks for hosting this blogfest!

  4. Donna on December 14, 2012 at 7:44 pm

This was great!  Loved the steps.  I don't have an organizer, but my bag thinks it has enough pockets to be organized.  Where is the trash can in it though?  I need one with a trashcan liner in one pocket so I'm not cleaning out tissues and gum wrapper and dental floss (ew!  did I just say dental floss?)

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 10:44 am

Ah, a trashcan liner… now that's an idea! Maybe it can be included in the "organizer organizer gadget" that I'm talking about. 🙂

  5. Arlee Bird on December 14, 2012 at 9:00 pm

I don't carry a bag, but I can always use more organization in my life.  This is a great idea.

I do agree about the organisation thinggie… I'm sure we can all do with a little more organisation in our lives… but you DO seem like a pretty well-organised person. I mean, to run three blogs requires relly good organisational skills! It is three blogs, isn't it?

  6. susan swiderski on December 14, 2012 at 9:24 pm

I've never heard of a kangaroo keeper before, but I got an enormous kangaroo kick out of your post. When my kids were young and I was carrying a purse the size of Delaware, filled with food, drinks, and a change of clothes for the little angels, I could've used more organization, for sure. Nowadays, I carry such a small purse, I can't fit enough stuff in there to require organizing.
    Fun post. Nice to meetcha.

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 10:50 am

Isn't it funny how life changes? From a bag the size of Delaware to a small purse that needs minimum organisation… nice to meet you to Susan!

  7. Jenny on December 14, 2012 at 10:48 pm

    Step 4 – avoid distractions…?
    Easier said than…ooh, shiny!

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 10:51 am

Uh-oh! Seems like you won't make it pass step 4! Concentrate, m'dear, concentrate on the task at hand! LOL.

  8. Shannon Lawrence on December 15, 2012 at 4:15 am

I actually don't have a purse, but I wonder how a kk would work in my messenger bag.  I'd never keep it organized either, ha!  And if it spoke?  I'd have to short circuit that sucker, because it would always be yelling at me.

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 10:52 am

Oh Shannon, it sounds like the kk won't really help you either… he! he!

  9. Dianne Salerni on December 15, 2012 at 4:25 am

I have tried my share of "organized purses." I even have some that are "ergonomic." They all stink.  There are so many pockets, I can never remember where I put anything!!!  I have finally decided that, as long as I have a separate pocket for my cell phone, I'm okay with everything else being in one large cavity that has to be dumped out to find the item I want. 😀

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 10:55 am

Makes sense! As long as the bag has a small side zip compartment for the cell phone, I can also live with everything being in one large cavity… that seems to work better for me too! 🙂

  10. Rachna Chhabria on December 15, 2012 at 6:41 am

I am wondering whether I too should invest in a KK. May make my purse more organized and my life easy 😉

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 10:57 am

Rachna, you can take a chance… and tell me if it works, okay? 🙂  Who knows, it works for some people, it may just work for you… good luck!

  11. Cindy Dwyer on December 15, 2012 at 2:03 pm

What a fun post! My bag stays in decent shape because I use a large one during the week for my commute to work to hold my lunch, extra shoes, occasional files, etc. But every Friday night I shed the workweek by switching my wallet, phone, keys and glasses to the small bag I use for the weekend.
I'm at stage 1.1 right  ow – just need to stay on top of it!

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:02 am

Thanks Cindy! That sound practical! A large one during the week and a smaller one on the weekend. You have no need for a kk!

  12. Lydia K on December 15, 2012 at 3:13 pm

I had one of those, but it ended up breaking. Oh well!

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:27 am

Did it break due to wear and tear? You must have made good use of it, Lydia! 🙂

  13. Carol Kilgore on December 15, 2012 at 5:39 pm

I'm certain the Kangaroo Keeper would send me way beyond crazy. I'll just keep my regular mess.  At least I'm familiar with it.
    Happy Weekend!

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:28 am

I'll toast to the "familiar regular mess"… I call it "organised chaos" LOL.

  14. Emily R. King on December 15, 2012 at 6:03 pm

I can find anything in my purse…after I dump it out. 🙂 I think the Kangaroo Keeper would make things worse for me. Every time I put my cellphone in its proper pocket in my purse, I can't find it. I never think to look in the pocket first because it's usually in with all the other clutter. Ha!

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:29 am

LOL Emily, that sounds VERY familiar! 🙂

  15. Cherie Reich on December 15, 2012 at 6:28 pm

An organizer for the organizer. Not a bad idea at all. Those KKs look really handy.

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:30 am

I think it is useful, but you have to get used to it… which I can't seem to do.

  16. Laura Diamond on December 15, 2012 at 8:19 pm

    LOL! A fun post!

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:31 am

      Thanks Laura!

  17. Sherry Ellis on December 15, 2012 at 8:29 pm

I have one of those.  There's no hope for it!

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:32 am

Ah! Another "kk-challenged" individual! Welcome to the club, Sherry! LOL.

  18. C. Lee McKenzie on December 15, 2012 at 9:48 pm

Glad you used this as your deja vu post. I love to laugh. I think I'll jump to #6 immediately and just "sort out the damn thing!"

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:35 am

Yes, a good idea! Sort it out! LOL.

  19. Guilie on December 15, 2012 at 9:55 pm

Hahahahahahaha… I'm right there with you, m'dear. My bags (yes, multiple–as if we needed the extra challenge) are a perpetual mess of lost lipgloss, spare change I can never find when I need, pens that don't work, notebooks I really really need but never turn up at the right time (thus prompting a new buy, which somehow never solves the problem), notes, receipts, lighters, half a pair of earrings and other random jewelry… Well, you get the idea. And no, a kk never solves the problem either 🙂

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:37 am

Oh Guilie! You gave me a good laugh! 🙂 I also dump everything in a "cavity"… at least I understand it! I call it "organised chaos"…  (The kk is stashed somewhere in the back of the wardrobe, collecting dust…) LOL.

      • Guilie on December 18, 2012 at 8:08 pm

Hahaha–same here 😀 Sweetie, I just tagged you in a blog hop for the NEXT BIG THING. It's meant to share stuff about our WIPs–hope you like it, and decide to join the fun 🙂 I'd love to know more about what you're working on. Here's the link to my post; you'll find the questions there. http://guilie-castillo-oriard.blogspot.com/2012/12/my-next-big-thing.html As always, no obligation 🙂

  20. Kari Marie White on December 16, 2012 at 1:34 am

    I. Need. One. Of. These. OMG. Or maybe I don't. I often wonder if I'd be better off just sticking my ID and my credit card in my pocket and going on my merry way.
Stopping by for the DejaVu blogfest.

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:45 am

I think stick the ID and credit card in your pocket, and off you go! No fuss, no bother, no kk and the frustration that goes with it!! LOL

  21. Lexa Cain on December 16, 2012 at 5:15 am

There are things in the bottom of my handbag that scare me! I think I've seen little eyes peering at me from down there. I figure it's better not to dig too deeply and hope the stuff I need just drifts to the surface where I can reach it easily … 😛

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:46 am

"… eyes peering at you from down there." *laughing non-stop* 🙂

  22. Kimberly Gabriel on December 16, 2012 at 8:03 am

Hysterical! Laughing nonstop ehile reading this!

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:48 am

I'm glad I could provide a little light entertainment, Kimberly!

  23. Medeia Sharif on December 16, 2012 at 4:31 pm

I'd like a more organized bag. Even the ones with many pockets and zippers don't help me stay organized.

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:49 am

Try the kk… it may just work for you! It works for lots of ladies… 🙂

  24. Elise Fallson on December 16, 2012 at 10:12 pm

LOL, this was funny. I have a pretty big bag with lots of pockets inside. You'd think it'd be easy to keep me organized. Wrong. I'm always losing stuff in it because I never put stuff away in the same spot! I'm terrible at that. I've spent more time searching my bag trying to find the phone that's been ringing but of course went to voice mail 10 minutes ago because I couldn't find it!

    • michelle on December 17, 2012 at 11:50 am

Sounds very familiar, Elise! My kk is non-functional! It's stashed somewhere at the back of the wardrobe… 🙂

  25. Misha on December 17, 2012 at 3:56 pm

Hahaha my mother has one and I still can't find a damned thing in her handbag.

    • michelle on December 18, 2012 at 6:07 am

So you've experienced the kk frustration… first-hand! He! He! 🙂

  26. Morgan Shamy on December 18, 2012 at 4:47 pm

Holy organization! I need some of that in my life…

    • michelle on December 19, 2012 at 6:15 am

Ha! Ha! Actually, you strike me as being a very organised type of a person, Morgan… 🙂

  27. Jemi Fraser on December 19, 2012 at 10:06 pm

Too funny! I don't tend to have too much in my bag, but my daughter's is incredible. She's got containers/organizers for everything!

  28. michelle on December 19, 2012 at 10:20 pm

Double congrats… smart minimalistic mum and smart daughter too! 🙂

  29. joylene on December 19, 2012 at 10:22 pm

Haha, girl, we must be related! I bought a KK just before Zellers closed. Dirt cheap. But it stinks! And I still couldn't find anything. I finally bought a Kathy because there's a pocket on the outside for my debit card. Really, what else do I need??? Haha.
Merry Christmas, you nut! Happy New Year!

    • michelle on December 20, 2012 at 2:39 pm

Definitely related! You're also frustrated by the kk? Ha! proves my point! I knew it! Merry Christmas to you too… and a fabulous New Year!! 🙂

  30. Tyrean on December 20, 2012 at 5:03 am

Mine is a bit simpler than that, and so small that if I don't clean it out regularly I can't stuff my wallet into it.

    • michelle on December 20, 2012 at 2:40 pm

I think simpler is better… more manageable and less unnecessary clutter… you are wise!

  31. Tonja on December 20, 2012 at 12:33 pm

Is it weird that I bought a small purse to fit inside my big bag?  The small one is for the things I really need – like money, asthma inhaler, pen, and tiny notebook (very tiny).

  32. michelle on December 20, 2012 at 2:48 pm

It seems like the small inner purse is a better option… stay away from the kk! LOL

  33. Lynda R Young on December 20, 2012 at 10:25 pm

I've not heard of a kangaroo keeper before, but it sounds like I need to get me one!! So often I don't take my bag with me because I can't find anything in it anyway! lol.

    • michelle on December 21, 2012 at 6:18 am

Give it a try… if you're brave enough! 🙂 Just kidding! The kangaroo keeper works for those people who put items back in the assigned places/pockets/compartments, not for those who shove items anywhere and everywhere…  (I think) LOL.

  34. Rose on December 22, 2012 at 4:46 am

It's such a great idea for a blogfest! Some of those older posts were shouted out to an empty room 🙂
Kangaroo keeper- looks so organized, my purse is a mess and anything like that will just go down the tubes in a matter of days, but the idea is noble.
I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you- I answered your question on my post, and I'm looking forward to discussing Sense and Sensibility with you 🙂

  35. michelle on December 23, 2012 at 8:31 am

The kangaroo keeper is a great idea, but you have to keep an eye on it… tidy it up on a regular basis… 🙂 I'm looking forward to the discussions, Rose! 🙂

  36. Nas on December 30, 2012 at 7:33 pm
