DRABBLE CHALLENGE ~ MEMORY

The drabble challenge is a weekly challenge , hosted by Aheila on her blog : thewriteaholicblog.wordpress.com

A reminder how it works : read the prompt and find your angle ; write a drabble ( 100 word story , give or take 5 words ) ; post a direct link to the drabble in your comments .

                                                              *          *          *          *          *

It was futile , a wasted exercise .

He was blank , a clean slate , tabula rasa .

Numerous tests were conducted .

The doctors had done everything possible .

They said it was simply a matter of time .

But time was a luxury he couldn't afford .

They were coming to get him . That he knew for certain .

In the absence of reliable memory , gut instinct prevailed . But who were they ? Who was he ? Why were they after him ?

Snippets of images flitted along the edges of his memory … a black beret … the scent of vanilla … a plaintive violin … steel grey eyes … and then slipped away .

      Thanks Aly ~~ there were so many possible angles from which to approach this prompt . I suppose that’s what makes the drabble challenge so appealing !

      I’m sure that loss of memory is intense and frightening .
      Glad that you liked it R ! 🙂

    Nice job Mish!  I like the way you described snipets of memory floating in and out of conciousness.  Also the quickness of your sentences conveys an urgency that works really well with your subject.

      Hey T ~~ I’m glad that you picked up on the urgency that is felt in this piece . The character tries desperately to grasp these images which keep on eluding him ~ and we can sense that he is running out of time .
