DRABBLE CHALLENGE ~ SCENERY

The drabble challenge is a weekly challenge hosted by Aheila on her blog : http://thewriteaholicblog.wordpress.com A reminder how it works : read the prompt and find your angle ; write a drabble (100 word story , give or take 5 words) ; post a direct link to the drabble in your comments.

The full moon cast a glare over the grave site , illuminating the stone angels perched atop the granite headstones . The group of ethereal , free-spirited creatures frolicked amongst the tombstones . Like other-worldly wisps , they fluttered their hands to reveal pale , translucent skin . It shone from beneath layers of shimmering fabric which swished and flowed , cascading over as they moved , light-footed and fragile . They were restless and yet calming , their sylph-like lightness seeming to defy the laws of gravity .

Then he heard it . A new sound . Addictive , chanting voices provided a velvet balm , pouring itself over his body and soul ; a warm , molten liquid sensation .

Your prose is charged with a poetic quality…descriptions are "delicious" and your use of active verbs makes your writing come alive. And thanks for your thoughtful comments on my blog.

Poetic quality ?! Thanks for the compliment ! I would never have thought of it in that way .

I really like the contrast between the beauty of what you describe and the inherent "ugliness" of the concept of graveyard. Very powerful!

Thanks A ~ placing a scene of beauty within an inherently “ugly” setting was a bit of a risk ~ glad the contrast seemed to work !

I love the idea of describing a graveyard. The contrast you were going for–between "ugly" and "beautiful"–works really well!
