DRABBLE CHALLENGE ~ SCHOOL

The winding road took us further inland. Rolling mountains jutted at odd intervals.

Out of nowhere, a makeshift road (actually a dusty path) emerged. This signalled the end of a tedious journey. The path opened into a clearing.

Dozens of uniformed children were scattered around the yard of a compound.

At first glance, they appeared to be your average ten-year olds.

Closer inspection yielded different results.

It was the eyes. A dead give-away. Dull, unseeing, lifeless… soulless…

This was no ordinary learning institution, the occupants were definitely not normal, everyday learners and we were intruders trapped in this no-go zone!

What were they? Zombies? Vampires? Little demons?

    Something along those lines… a closely-guarded government project…

This is indeed an eerie start of a bigger story.
