DRABBLE CHALLENGE ~ SILENCE

The drabble is a weekly challenge hosted by Aheila on her blog : http://thewriteaholicblog.wordpress.com A reminder how it works : read the prompt and find your angle ; write a drabble (100 word story , give or take 5 words) ; post a direct link to the drabble in your comments

The silence is everywhere . It takes its place , settles in , complacent and comfortable … a loyal breakfast , lunch and dinner companion . It permeates the atmosphere – thick , multi-layered chunks filled with unimaginable pain , unspeakable truths .

"Daddy , why does mommy stare all the time ?"

"She is very sick …"

"Why won't mommy speak to us ? Can't she take medicine to make her better ?" No answer . Just silence .

No more family gatherings . The pitter patter of running feet , giggles and laughter , lost in a distant memory . Sshh … whisper …

Mr. Bear , do you think I ask too many questions ? Silence .

Well , daddy says so ....

Silence .

Depression, if that's what is happening here, can be a killer.  I hope Daddy gets the help Mommy needs for the daughter's sake.  This is a heartbraking situation for all involved.  Thanks for bringing up the hard things to write about.

Yes , depression bordering on catatonia is devastating for the entire family … and daddy feels helpless too … doesn’t know what to tell the little one . Thanks for your input . I really appreciate it .
