The Rhumbelow Theatre brings another of its famous school holiday interactive edutainment offerings this July break , in the form of Jonah and the Whale.
In association with the Durban Botanic Gardens, the play will be staged at the gardens’ amphitheatre.
Durban singer, writer, lyricist and entertainer Jaziel Vaugh’hann, pictured right, is known for these offerings. Vaugh’hann is joined on stage by Michelle Wallace a music educator / entertainer / piano tutor / musical performer .
Wallace said the most important part of the show for them was the combination of fun and education.
“We get the kids involved in the show throughout the performance with sing-a-longs , dancing and sock puppets. We use this to break up the show in between storytelling, to break that sit-and-listen pattern because children have short attention spans.
"The show teaches children about the story of Jonah and the whale, and it also teaches them to use their imagination and interpret what is going on through the use of minimal props, nothing elaborate. It is all about fun interaction,” she said.
Jonah and the Whale will be staged at the Botanic Gardens Amphitheatre from June 27 to July 15, Monday to Friday at 10am. R50 from Computicket or at the gardens on the day.
