Five Sentence Fiction #5 – LOST

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week the hostess will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just use it for direction.

Tony felt like the proverbial rat in a maze, frustrated and confused, wondering how on earth he had managed to land himself in such a predicament.

It was a two-way decision – the comfortable path with all its familiar landmarks, or the more complex and exciting, yet bumpy obstacle course.

On one side of town, anxious and stressed out, Debbie paced up and down, recalling the years spent burning the midnight oil with a young and upcoming doctor; on the opposite end of town, a terminally ill yet smug-faced Laura, counted the number of days left, even as her flaming cheeks bore testament to rampant thoughts of unabandoned passion.

It was a no brainer…

He wondered what fate had in store for him, as he looked out the window at the familiar scenery, for the last time, and the plane jetted into the air, up and away from all his problems.

Hmmm, he's running away then?  An intriguing story Michelle, will there be more sometime?

Thanks Sandra. I'm not too sure at this moment…

He can't outrun himself though. Excellent piece, Michelle!

You can try telling him that – I doubt he'll listen to reason at this particular time. Thanks Alex!

Some problems you can't fly away from no matter how hard you try.  I get the feeling Tony has a false sense of security… I want to know more about this one. (:

The words of a John Denver song came to mind: I'm leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again…  🙂 You actually voiced what I had in mind for the MC – he definitely has a sense of security… a false one. LOL

I guess a plane is one way to solve a guy's committment issues.

    • michelle on June 14, 2012 at 8:38 pm

… a guy can make it appear so simple… just up and leave…

Intriguing is really the bestword for this! Thanks for sharing!

You can run, but you can't hide!  Nice piece.  It's always fun to read what you write.

    • michelle on June 14, 2012 at 8:39 pm

You cannot hide from yourself! Ever!

decisions are the worst enemy until they are accomplished

    • michelle on June 14, 2012 at 8:42 pm

Though running away is not the best decision in this case… or is it?

Wow.  I loved this.  It felt like a excellent reflection a man would make.  Great job.

Thanks Mina. Well, he is in a terrible situation… of his own making!

Oh Michelle, I would love to read more. This was fascinating. So Tony's running. Excellent! He made his bed, huh? 🙂 I love your voice. I'm very envious that yuor voice seems to come so easy. Love it!

I love how, into so little words, you've managed to fit in so much destruction. Every piece of flash fiction I read of yours has amazing potential for full-blown novels! 🙂

    • michelle on June 17, 2012 at 10:49 pm

Thank you, Catherine. I appreciate the positive feedback! 🙂
