The Insecure Writer’s Support Group ~ No#17

Welcome to the IWSG post. This is a place where writers can come together and express doubts/concerns and offer assistance/guidance… the ultimate writers' support structure. For more info go HERE.

Since my mind is still in "A to Z mode", here's my A to Z of writerly insecurities…

                                        First Wed of Every Month

I'm an adequate, befuddled chancer, a dabbler who endeavours to fabricate stories with genuine heartfelt intentions… I have jumbled knowledge, but I'm learning, mastering (hopefully) faced with never-ending obstacles. Pressure quickens the realisation that stories take time to unearth. I'm a vacillating wannabe who yearns to reach the zenith… but I have oodles of zing, zip and zest!

Does this make me insecure? You bet! But who cares? I'm cool with it. It doesn't really faze me anymore. It is what it is. So what?

Don't forget to pop in sometime within the next 24 hours, for an update about my A to Z challenge competition. You can read the details about this challenge and the competition.

Now I'm off to see how many IWSG'ers I can visit… and you should do the same…

You've already published a novel! How cool is that?! I always imagine that published writers are less insecure than unpublished ones… but I've learned that that's not the case…

  2. S.P.Bowers on May 1, 2013 at 11:18 am

I think that's the key; realizing it is what it is and accepting it.  When you do that you can really move forward and accomplish so much without being beset with insecurities.

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 7:28 am

So true Sara. Accept it, and manage it to the best of your ability. Though it's easier said than done…

  3. Alex J. Cavanaugh on May 1, 2013 at 12:22 pm

You're right – who cares? Keep writing anyway.

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 7:30 am

I'm going to try and maintain the "who cares" attitude… and keep moving forward…

  4. joylene on May 1, 2013 at 2:54 pm

Who cares — is right! You go, girl!

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 7:30 am

Thanks Joylene! I'll just keep on keeping on… know what I mean? 🙂

  5. Lexa Cain on May 1, 2013 at 3:03 pm

Yup, you definitely have oodles of zing, zip, and zest! Who could want more than that? 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 7:33 am

Hopefully the zing, zip and zest can sustain me for a long, long, long time… until I grow and improve and move on and up… that would be great!

  6. J. A. Bennett on May 1, 2013 at 3:59 pm

haha, you stole the words right out of my mouth 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 7:34 am

Ah, Jennie… great minds think alike etc. etc.? 🙂

  7. L. Diane Wolfe on May 1, 2013 at 6:23 pm

    Oh, that was clever!

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 7:36 am

Thank you so much, L.Diane. I would love some, even a small portion, of your marketing know-how… and business savviness… combined with my zingy, zippy zest – how can I go wrong?

  8. melanie schulz on May 1, 2013 at 7:17 pm

I knew you couldn't give up the alphabet so quickly!

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 7:38 am

Hot on the heels of the AtoZ Challenge, how could I resist an AtoZ insecurity post? Impossible…

  9. Al Diaz on May 1, 2013 at 8:27 pm

I loved your post. Mostly the who cares? I definitively love that. That's right Michelle, just keep writing and enjoying it. As long as you do that, you'll be alright.

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 7:40 am

      I think a "who-cares attitude" could work for me… I'm not a hard-core "moaner-and-groaner"… (though I could become one…?)

  10. Murees Dupé on May 1, 2013 at 8:38 pm

I think you are a talented woman who knows how to use words. Now how could that be wrong? But yay, we survived A-Z!

  11. Nick Wilford on May 1, 2013 at 8:49 pm

We all struggle but you're right, it is what it is! Just keep writing and learning – nothing else for it eh?

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 7:42 am

Exactly Nick! You did extremely well with the challenge. I don't know how you managed to write a story under such pressure. Definitely a great learning experience for you?

  12. Nas on May 1, 2013 at 9:24 pm

Loved your post. Great advice and tips.

    All the best!

    Nas

Michelle you are a crazy woman!  Like conquering the entire alphabet once already wasn't enough?  Sheesh!

You are so awesome it just blows my mind.  Seriously- there's piecces of brain goo all over the place now.  Yick.

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 7:44 am

Thank you for the generous compliment, Beverly. I appreciate it. You've made my day! 🙂

  14. Stina Lindenblatt on May 1, 2013 at 10:55 pm

You are awesome, Michelle. I can't believe you pulled this off!!! 😀

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 7:45 am

I just couldn't resist ONE LAST AtoZ-styled piece!  🙂 Thank you Stina.

  15. shell flower on May 2, 2013 at 1:20 am

You are an amazing writer. I love how you wove A-Z into this. I can totally relate to being a vacillating wanna be. Totally there.

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 7:49 am

Thanks Shell Flower. You may be a vacillating wannabe, but you also have amazing writing skillz! Well, let's toast to our "vacillating wannabe situations" 🙂

I'm looking forward to reading your story in one sitting!

  16. Clarissa Draper on May 2, 2013 at 1:48 am

I think that if you can keep up with the A-Z challenge, you can keep up with anything.

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 7:51 am

… and this comment is one that I'm going to keep in mind for the entire day… (it would make a great mantra)

  17. Natasha Hanova on May 2, 2013 at 2:57 am

  20. Mark Koopmans on May 2, 2013 at 7:41 am

    Ha!

Nice way to get the last vestiges of A-Z out of your system 🙂

PS… WIP#2 will not be about Oliver, but they will be some twists (otherwise it ain't going to work!!)

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 8:00 am

Welcome to my place. Hmmm… it's gonna take more than an IWSG post to get the AtoZ out of my system. 🙂 Oh, so your WIP#2 has nothing to do with street urchins? Okay.

  21. Annalisa Crawford on May 2, 2013 at 1:14 pm

A-Zism can be very serious. If symptoms persist for more than a week, seek professional help! 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 1:49 pm

I may need to do just that, Annalisa. 🙂 (Now that the A to Z is over, I can get back to reading your story collection…)

  22. Tyrean on May 2, 2013 at 2:23 pm

Love this post! I especially liked the part about stories taking time to unearth . . .they do take time. We're like archeologists carefully brushing away the layers of grit to get to the treasures of the ages.

Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday and sending encouragement my way!

  23. Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2013 at 3:03 pm

I've realised that this writerly journey is a slow one… and that's fine… but I've decided that, along the way, I'm going to have as much fun as I can… 🙂

    • Lara Lacombe on May 3, 2013 at 2:17 am

That's the most important thing–continue to learn, continue to grow.  Continue to have fun!  It's not a race, and the journey is what it's all about 🙂

      • Michelle Wallace on May 3, 2013 at 7:08 am

That about sums it up… perfectly! 🙂 Thanks Lara.

  24. Gina on May 2, 2013 at 3:49 pm

This is a really nice post! I enjoyed reading this very much.

  25. Medeia Sharif on May 2, 2013 at 10:11 pm
