The Insecure Writer’s Support Group ~ No#31

The Insecure Writer’s Support Group is a platform for all writers where we get a chance to release our fears to the world – or offer encouragement to those who are feeling neurotic. The group posts the first Wednesday of every month. You are encouraged to visit at least a dozen new blogs and leave a comment. Your words might be the encouragement someone needs.

The co-hosts for today are Krista McLaughlin, Kim Van Sickler, Heather Gardner, and Hart Johnson Be sure to pay them a visit and thank them for helping today.

There's a conspiracy afoot. Lots of writers have fallen prey to this. It involves a certain misconception. All along, writers have been laying the blame for writer's block on the blank page. The poor blank page has been at the receiving end of this criticism for ages….

But now new information has come to light. Recent research has revealed that the REAL culprit is none other than…

                                                   … wait for it…

LOL! That's why I always write with a pen.

  2. SittieCates on July 2, 2014 at 3:01 pm

LOL! Goodbye, evil pencils. Hello, pens and (computer) keyboards! Thank goodness we have those. 🙂

  3. Alex J. Cavanaugh on July 2, 2014 at 3:06 pm

    Darn those pencils!

Samantha is involved in so many amazing projects.

  4. Misha on July 2, 2014 at 3:14 pm

Oh yeah. Pencils are evil. Fountain pens are most kind, though.

  5. J.L. Campbell on July 2, 2014 at 3:52 pm

Congrats to Nick and Otto on their creative endeavour. Good thing I stopped using pencils. I'd know for sure they're the reason I'm not getting much done.

  6. Gina Drayer on July 2, 2014 at 3:53 pm

    Hahahaha!

I bet the evil pencil is in cahoots with the Mocking Blinking Curser.

  7. S. Katherine Anthony on July 2, 2014 at 4:09 pm

Hahahahaha Love it! Those pencils are sure out to get us! They mock us with their smugness. Pffft.

  8. joylene on July 2, 2014 at 4:58 pm

Dang, and to think I love my pencils. They're all sharpened and ready … just in case the blank page calls. Does this mean i now must write with that leaky tall black villain? The pen? It's mocking me, me thinkist.

    Happy IWSG, Michelle. Hilarious!

  9. Julie Flanders on July 2, 2014 at 5:21 pm

LOL LOL, love this. Damn those pencils!!!

  10. Madeline Mora-Summonte on July 2, 2014 at 5:25 pm

Maybe the pencils are so grumpy because they get chewed on a lot? Thanks for the laugh! 🙂

  11. Michelle Athy on July 2, 2014 at 6:23 pm

Pencils must be grumpy because they need to get sharpened!

  12. Toi Thomas on July 2, 2014 at 6:32 pm

I knew it was the pencils all along. They don't wear caps. What kind of self-respecting writing utensil doesn't have the decency to cover its tip? If they're not poking you, they're giving you writer's block.

    Down With Pencils!

    Save The Trees!

    Save The Graphite!

And Anything Else That Sounds Good When You YELL!

    Great post.

  13. Southpaw on July 2, 2014 at 6:39 pm

I always knew those pencils were evil!

  14. Mary on July 2, 2014 at 7:07 pm

lol. I'm locking my pencils away.

  15. Meradeth on July 2, 2014 at 7:57 pm

Hmm, I wonder if the pencils have infected my keyboard 🙂

    • Shelly on July 2, 2014 at 8:37 pm

That's why I use a pen. Very funny!

      hugs and chocolate!

  16. Mel Kinnel (@TizMellyMel) on July 2, 2014 at 8:57 pm

    Those darn evil pencils! LOL!

  17. emaginette on July 2, 2014 at 8:58 pm

I should have known it was the pencil all along. Thanks for the giggle 🙂

    So that's what the problem was . . .

  19. Christina Mitchell on July 2, 2014 at 9:35 pm

See that's why I use a computer. Keyboards are notorously open-minded. They don't judge.

  20. Krystal Jane on July 2, 2014 at 10:30 pm

That's funny. ^_^ *hugs my computer who loves me soo much*

Congratulations on all the creative mind involved in that book! I've just recently heard about enhanced ebooks and I just think it's incredible. Technology. ^_^

  21. Diane Burton on July 2, 2014 at 11:00 pm

You discovered the secret of writing. Shh. Don't tell anyone else. Let other writers use those evil pencils.

    Thanks for making me smile.

  22. Shell Flower on July 3, 2014 at 12:31 am

And all this time I thought it was the evil blinking cursor. Maybe a distant relative to the pencil???

  23. Crystal Collier on July 3, 2014 at 12:56 am

But pencils love me. They do. I promise they do. *batting eyes* =) LOL.

  24. Medeia Sharif on July 3, 2014 at 1:26 am

I better be careful. I've become a pencil person lately and I've been ignoring my pens.

  25. Kim Van Sickler on July 3, 2014 at 1:27 am

When the number 2 pencils were superceded by the mechanical pencil, I knew we were in trouble. Those mechanical pencils require a greater capital outlay and don't have the staying power of those number 2s. Bastards.

  26. Allison on July 3, 2014 at 1:38 am

Hehe, Love it!  Poor page, always getting the blame….

  27. Krista McLaughlin on July 3, 2014 at 1:50 am

I have a sudden urge to break my pencils and only write with pens now. But I normally write on my computer anyway, so whew! But can I still blame my computer occassionally? It does have distractions…

  28. Julie Musil on July 3, 2014 at 5:31 am

I KNEW it!!! Darn pencils. Thanks for the smiles 🙂

  29. Susan Gourley on July 3, 2014 at 1:38 pm

I knew there was a reason I can't resist purchasing dozens of pens and pencils. They're always trying to abscond.

  30. Doreen McGettigan on July 3, 2014 at 5:10 pm

I must stick up for the pencils, love them! I am intrigued by the book and the trailer contest…
    Happy summer writing!

  31. Jen on July 3, 2014 at 7:14 pm

Ah HA!! That explains everything. I solemnly swear off pencils for good.

    Now…where did I put those pens…

    Great post!

  32. Murees Dupé on July 3, 2014 at 7:52 pm

Poor blank page. I used to blame the blank page too. Thank you for sharing the truth.

  33. Lexa Cain on July 3, 2014 at 8:08 pm

I wodered when the truth about pencils would come out. 😉

  34. Patricia Lynne on July 3, 2014 at 10:36 pm

I always thought my pencils were giving me dirty looks when they thought my back was turned. >.>

  35. Lara Lacombe on July 4, 2014 at 1:24 am

    Cute comic! 🙂

  36. Annalisa Crawford on July 4, 2014 at 8:21 am

Lol, that's brilliant. I'll definitely be on the look out for those guys!

  37. Carol Kilgore on July 5, 2014 at 1:38 pm

That settles it. I'm only buying erasers from now on 🙂

  38. Lynda Dietz on July 5, 2014 at 2:05 pm

Those pencils, they think they're All That. Smug, the lot of them. They don't deserve to be sharpened.

  39. Celine on July 6, 2014 at 11:56 am

Haha, that made me laugh. Thank god I write on a computer. But wait, is my keyboard a bunch of evil pencils under cover?!

  40. C. Lee McKenzie on July 6, 2014 at 10:07 pm

I just knew it. They're a skinny and basically vindictive lot, those #2's. Wait until they see my new automatic sharpener. That's going to put a stop to all of this evil nonsense.
