The Insecure Writer’s Support Group ~ No#72

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer – aim for a dozen new people each time.

The awesome co-hosts for the October posting of the IWSG are: Julie Flanders, Shannon Lawrence, Fundy Blue, and Heather Gardner!

Don’t forget to visit them and thank them for co-hosting!

Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.
Remember, the question is optional!

DECEMBER 06th QUESTION: As you look back on 2017, with all its successes/failures, if you could backtrack, what would you do differently?

I haven’t thought about this because I’m still trying to knit the story from either end to the middle. I’m just trying to get as much done as possible now that schools have closed for the Christmas break and I have some extra time.
So at the moment, my insecure writer hat is perched on my head as I navigate the murky waters of the dreaded middle!
So I’m popping in and out!

                             Happy IWSG Day!

It is good to hear that you have extra time. I know you want to get a lot of things accomplished but don’t forget to take some time to enjoy and discover your humour again.
Wishing you all the best and a successful crossover into 2018.

Those are indeed dreaded waters. How do you navigate them without capsizing? Have you ever made a middle that negated your beginning or end? Ugh. Now I’m all insecure and I’m not even writing the middle.

Yay for extra time! Good luck figuring out the middle of your story!

No saggy middles! You can do it.

Ah, the muddle middle, I mean, the muddy middle. I’m there, too, in a weird way, since I’m trying to write a series all at once … I guess that might be why I haven’t decorated for Christmas yet. 🙂

You’ll get there. Let it be terrible when it arrives then fix it later. I do it with with endings and so far so good. Happy Holidays.

I hear you about the middle. I dread the great sag! Here’s to getting that job done while you have time.

Good for you to have a beginning and an end to knit together. It will all come together. Enjoy your extra writing time.

    Hi Michelle!
The dreaded middle, eh? I wish you well. It’s so hard learning to plot and structure. But well worth the effort!

    Happy Christmas!
    Have a glorious 2018!

    Denise 🙂

I hope you can connect the ends soon. And with a stellar middle.

OUch the middle. It always slows me down.

Extra time is always nice. I hope you get a lot done.

Sending virtual crunches to tighten up that saggy middle! And speaking of – I’d build more exercise before I sit down to write. I’m also so much more energized when I do that.

  16. Natalie Aguirre on December 10, 2017 at 10:48 pm

Yes, the middle can be hard. I’m not there yet in my manuscript. Good luck navigating yours.

  17. Lidy on December 12, 2017 at 4:39 pm

Ugh, the dreaded middle. It’s where I usually get bogged down and stuck in. That’s why I’ve made it a point to always start writing from the middle. It’s easier for me to wade through and write the story from there.

Looking back, I’d have liked to have been more disciplined with my writing time. Planning ahead to 2018 to do better. Cheering you on for your upcoming projects! May your holidays be merry and bright! 🙂

Good luck Michelle knitting the story middle together – and have a very happy seasonal break – enjoy yourself with family and friends – cheers Hilary

I have been winging it as I go along for this entire year, and I’m ready to move right along to 2018. If I could backtrack to any point in 2017, it would be to the very beginning of the year, so I’m calling this one a wash and starting fresh. 🙂
