The Insecure Writer’s Support Group ~ No#93

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer – aim for a dozen new people each time.

The awesome co-hosts for the September posting of the IWSG are: Gwen Gardner, Doreen McGettigan, Tyrean Martinson, Chemist Ken, and Cathrina Constantine!

Don’t forget to visit them and thank them for co-hosting!

Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.
Remember, the question is optional!

SEPTEMBER 04th QUESTION: If you could pick one place in the world to sit and write your next story, where would it be and why?

I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world which experiences sun 365 days of the year and is 3 minutes from the local wharf.
In the pictures below, I’m experimenting with the WordPress Gallery Block and some amateur photography.

I don’t need to travel far for inspiration! It’s right on my doorstep.
What about you? Where is your perfect location?

Happy IWSG Day!

I didn’t know you were that close to the beach – how wonderful. I love that vendor cart.

    • Michelle Wallace on September 4, 2019 at 7:23 pm

      Yes, its down the road.
The pavement vendors have loads of colourful items on sale. It’s a visual treat.

Wow, no kidding right on your doorstep. Before we moved in 2016, I could have said the same thing. We had a lake view with dock in our backyard. We were there a little over a year. A year in the life, but it gave me a taste of what it would be like to have it in your own backyard. Florida is full of those places too, but where I am at now not as accessible on a daily basis. Happy IWSG!

We have the best weather in the country.
All the out-of-towners flock to my end of the world when the colder weather arrives.

  3. Alex J. Cavanaugh on September 4, 2019 at 5:51 pm

Wow, you are close! No hurricanes? That would be nice.

    • Michelle Wallace on September 4, 2019 at 7:26 pm

No hurricanes. We’ve been fortunate. But with climate change and weather patterns all messed up, who knows?

  4. Madeline Mora-Summonte on September 4, 2019 at 6:01 pm

Inspiration is all around us but based on those pictures, it’s especially around you. πŸ™‚

    • Michelle Wallace on September 4, 2019 at 7:26 pm

      It’s a wonderful spot. Great for unlocking creativity… πŸ™‚

Looks like the experiment is a complete success. Nice work.

No wonder you don’t have to go somewhere else. πŸ˜‰

      Thank you, Anna! πŸ™‚
There are other great places too.

  6. Yvonne V on September 4, 2019 at 6:56 pm

    How convenient! Love the photos.

  7. H. R. Sinclair on September 4, 2019 at 7:18 pm

I experimented with the gallery block this week too! I recommend making the imaged link to an image file, that way they pop up and people can see the whole image enlarged.

That close to the wharf is really nice. I love the colorful vending cart.

    • Michelle Wallace on September 4, 2019 at 7:31 pm

Image file? Okay, I need to check what the image file is all about.

The cart is a ricksha ride. The customer sits on the seat and it’s pulled along by the person operating it.

  8. Loni Townsend on September 4, 2019 at 8:46 pm

Wow! That looks like a fabulous location! Call me envious. πŸ™‚

  9. Jemi Fraser on September 4, 2019 at 9:52 pm

  10. Doreen Mcgettigan on September 5, 2019 at 1:03 am

What a lovely beach you have, definitely inspiration filled! The cart is pretty awesome too.

    • Michelle Wallace on September 7, 2019 at 7:06 am

There are loads of awesome beaches along our coast… and plenty of vibrant colors from different vendors to keep you inspired…

  11. Susan M Gourley on September 5, 2019 at 1:04 am

Count me as green with envy. I love sunshine and the beach. I would be inspired or else just walking all day.

    • Michelle Wallace on September 7, 2019 at 7:07 am

Yes, walking all day boosts creativity and one can always carry a notebook to jot down simple ideas… or just soak it all up for later…

  12. Diane Burton on September 5, 2019 at 1:48 am

Lovely and so close. I’m sure you find lots of inspiration there.

  13. Kalpana on September 5, 2019 at 5:57 am

So close to the beach? How wonderful and yes that walk along the pier would allow any story plot to unfold. Your photos are really delightful.

  14. Hilary on September 5, 2019 at 8:28 am

Hi Michelle – wonderful area … when I was over I thought seriously about living in Durban – but the people I knew were up in Jhb … so that’s where I ended up. It’s all stunning – love the rickshaw … and I quite agree I can see you can write wherever you want … certainly get inspiration from being outside – cheers Hilary

    • Michelle Wallace on September 7, 2019 at 7:09 am

Thanks, Hilary! Durbs is filled with sunshine. But of course, you know this… πŸ™‚ Jhb is so cold…

  15. Toi Thomas on September 5, 2019 at 1:07 pm

Yes, it does seem that you live in an ideal place for writing and relaxing. Lucky.

    • Michelle Wallace on September 7, 2019 at 7:10 am

It’s perfect for writing and relaxing. Beautiful weather all year round.

  16. Kate Powell on September 5, 2019 at 4:15 pm

I would say in a little house in Laguna Beach about 40 years ago… time travel, when it was not like Newport! Home! NOW, I’d say quietly anywhere my husband and cats are…. Fountain pen and notebook in hand.

    • Michelle Wallace on September 7, 2019 at 7:12 am

I like the idea of a pen and notebook. It allows for a different type of unfolding creativity…

  17. Julie Flanders on September 5, 2019 at 4:44 pm

What a beautiful place to call home. I think if I lived there I would never want to leave. πŸ™‚

    • Michelle Wallace on September 7, 2019 at 7:12 am

You wouldn’t want to leave. I assure you. πŸ™‚

  18. Patricia Josephine on September 6, 2019 at 5:36 pm

    Ooo. You are lucky!

  19. Gwen Gardner on September 6, 2019 at 9:46 pm

That looks like a perfect place to write. So many people picked places near the water as their chosen place to write if they could.

    • Michelle Wallace on September 7, 2019 at 7:13 am

Water is therapeutic and inspirational. πŸ™‚

  20. Murees DupΓ© on September 8, 2019 at 10:54 pm

You are a lucky woman. Great place to get inspiration from.

    • Michelle Wallace on September 24, 2019 at 6:50 am

Thank you! Definitely a wonderful and inspiring location. πŸ™‚

  21. Michael Di Gesu on September 10, 2019 at 11:49 am

You’re a very lucky woman, indeed! The pics are beautiful! Writing inspiration for me are walks in nature and a comfy home to come back to. I found a lovely turn of the century house in a charming village for my new home! Of course it needs tons of work, but you know me, after rehabbing this lovely old place, it will suit me beautifully…the best part… a HUGE and AMAZING walk up attic! With all the wooden rafters, it is a fantasy writer’s dream come true! I plan to turn it into my version of a Hogwarts Castle Library and Common room… just think, lovely old wood floors, a comfy camelback sofa, lots of books shelves, an round table with four antique chairs, and a fantastic handwoven Pakistan rug to warm up the space. Yes, its that big! After I install four skylights, I’ll set up my easel and drawing table on the other side of this enormous space. I finally found a house large enough to hold all my books, antiques, collectibles, art supplies, etc. I’ve managed to accumulate so much “STUFF” in my fifty plus years of living….lol

I’ll send you pics soon! I hope your “ventures” have come to fruition.

    • Michelle Wallace on September 24, 2019 at 6:51 am

It sounds perfect for you! Love the descriptions…

  22. Elizabeth Seckman on September 12, 2019 at 7:38 pm

I am so jealous. Want to trade houses? I can offer humidity, hills, and wal mart as a vendor.

    • Michelle Wallace on September 24, 2019 at 6:53 am

LOL! I have the humidity (too much) and rolling hills… Walmart will be something new.

  23. Raimey Gallant on September 20, 2019 at 10:04 pm

I want your perfect writing locale! Mine would have to be somewhere with warm weather, preferably with the sound of waves as background. πŸ™‚

    • Michelle Wallace on September 24, 2019 at 6:54 am

My location sounds like it fits your perfect location. πŸ™‚
