M is for MOURNIVAL

Mama mia! The massive and mean A to Z machine marches merrily along on M-Day. It moves minute by minute with a mixture of mediocre and masterful minions and messengers. It's the mid-way mark! Mazel Tov!

The PinYin A to Z Project

Yóu xì bî mò fãn yì fei huà……..

— is an old Chinese philosophy which refers to somebody who has the innate ability to decipher unusual words.

JUST JOKING.

The word for Day 13 is—-

                                                  MOURNIVAL

The horror/comedy blockbuster movie which is raking in millions at the box office!

I can't think of a definition but yours works for me. Any excuse to use Halloween graphics!

Also love your intros so much, they're so creative. 🙂

  2. PK Hrezo on April 15, 2013 at 5:47 pm

A party after the funeral where mourners gather round and act like clowns to cheer themselves.

  3. Alex J. Cavanaugh on April 15, 2013 at 5:52 pm

After a funeral, everyone gets free passes to the local mournival.

  4. Charity Bradford on April 15, 2013 at 7:06 pm

What fun intros! Alex's definition was really close to mine and now that's all I can think of.

  5. L. Diane Wolfe on April 15, 2013 at 7:59 pm

Best I could come up with is something along the lines of what PK and Alex already said.

It sounds like carnival (in my head anyway, I could be wrong) so something to do with that. Haha. you love how awesome I am at making up defintions?

  7. Emily R. King on April 15, 2013 at 8:54 pm

A party for mourners, better known as a funeral. 🙂

  8. J.L. Campbell on April 15, 2013 at 9:03 pm

    Hey Michelle,

Mournival sounds like a sad thing that happens to a carnival.

  9. C. Lee McKenzie on April 15, 2013 at 9:07 pm

Yep! Funeral. Everyone's got the idea on this one.

  10. Carol Kilgore on April 15, 2013 at 9:29 pm

Mournival. Day of the Dead. Dia de los Muertos. November 1 and 2.

Break out the black…. IT'S MOURNIVAL …. a new sesation. Unlike Carnival which celebrates live. This festival celebrates death… Zombies are our hosts, but all spirits are welcome. Come as your favored dead. Why not resureect your favorite author. A pale Hemingway comes to mind with a bullet hole in the side his head…. Sick, I know. LOL.

Because I keep forgetting to mention it, I'll say it now – your link that you use in your comments on my blog doesn't work.

Now to the fun stuff. Mournival, at least how I've heard my sister use the term, is the day after the mother-in-law has come for a long visit. I think she spells it "mornevil", but she's not a good speller.

I can't believe it's the midway point already! Are you dying??? Someday I'll be brave enough to try the A-Z!

  14. Nick Wilford on April 16, 2013 at 12:46 am

Same as the rest… a festival of mourning to celebrate the dearly departed!

  15. Medeia Sharif on April 16, 2013 at 3:26 am

It sounds like a carnival of mourners.

  16. Damyanti on April 16, 2013 at 4:40 am

I'm loving all these words you make up 🙂 — I like Medeia's definition.

      Thanks for playing along guys!

Seems like this one was a "no-brainer"…the definitions are similar.

  17. Lara Lacombe on April 16, 2013 at 6:02 pm

Mournival, aka an Irish wake 🙂

  18. Mina B. on April 17, 2013 at 1:04 am

I like yours.  It sounds so real.

    Here's mine:

Mournival:  A media circus when someone dies.

Used in a sentence:  The networks satelite trucks descended upon the church, completing the mournival-type atmosphere at Michael Jackson's funeral.
