NaNoWriMo, IWSGCC & Whacky Words

It seems like the entire writerly blogosphere is in NaNo mode…whether you are participating or just cheering everybody on from the sidelines!

I’ve even added to my mantra. It now goes something like this:

Break a pencil.

Shred a notebook.

Jam a keyboard.

Thanks to Melissa Maygrove for the third part. So while we’re on a roll, anybody want to add more? Feel free to play along in the comment section…

The Insecure Writer’s Support Group Critique Circle has taken off! The Critique Circle is fairly new. The basic aim of the group is to put writers who want to exchange critiques and find beta readers, in touch with each other.
At the moment, there’s a discussion going on over at the IWSGCC (pinned post at the top) where members have been exchanging thoughts/ideas, and this will help to shape the group, on the way forward. Are you a member of the group. Sign up to join in the conversation, and be a part of this awesome venture, as the group moves to the next level.
Remember:
The IWSGCC wants those NaNoWriMo manuscripts!  😆 😆 😆

It’s time for WHACKY WORDS! Remember, this is supposed to be FUN!

Thank you to everybody who played along for the previous word. The real meaning of the word  Hebesphalmology is – the study of juvenile delinquency. http://www.kokogiak.com/logolepsy/ow_h.html#hebesphalmology. The definition that captured my imagination was posted by Southpaw, who explained it as follows: the blood of the Greek goddess used to cure toe fungus. Congratulations, Holly. That’s a gold mine waiting to be discovered. Imagine the impact on podiatric medicine? LOL

Today’s word is

                                        INTERTRIGO

The prototype for a highly advanced, futuristic networking system that will link more than 50 social media platforms to a central point.

That’s my definition. (The word does have a meaning, but you are invited to play along by providing your own original meaning. No cheating and looking up the word. I’ll post the meaning next week). So do you wanna play along? Leave your definition in the comment section below.

*                    *                    *                    *                    *

So are you adding to my NaNoWriMo Mantra? Joining the IWSGCC ? Playing along with my Whacky Words?

Don’t forget that it’s also the Realms Faire week, over at Mary Pax’s blog!

2014RFBadgeASBar

There are TONS of prizes up for grabs. I’ve been on such a roll over the last few weeks. I won 11 e-books and a $50 Amazon gift card. So now I’m headed to the Realms Faire to see if I can continue the winning streak… See you there!

Juvenile delinquency? I never would have thought that. I route for NaNoers but the idea of doing it myself it too stressful.

INTERTRIGO is skin infection that takes place in the 3 plane of reality (that’s inner space, right?)

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:27 am

      LOL Holly!
3 plane of reality? Sounds interesting…you could write this concept into a dystopian/sci-fi story…? 🙂

  2. Alex J. Cavanaugh on November 10, 2014 at 5:28 pm

    It’s when you’re intrigued by vertigo…

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:28 am

      Brilliant, Alex!
I’m always intrigued by vertigo… LOL

  3. elizabeth seckman on November 10, 2014 at 5:30 pm

    Empty a printer?

I’ll go check out what’s going on at Mary’s. I’m jousting this week and need tips!

  4. Robyn Campbell on November 10, 2014 at 8:22 pm

Fry a brain! *snort* Hmm. INTERTRIGO is when you lay to rest your trigo. *wink*

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:30 am

*snort* Fry a brain – LOVE IT! I hope yours is still intact…after the thousands of words you’ve written already, I wonder… 🙂
Have you ‘laid your trigo’ to rest? Please do tell…

  5. Cherie Reich on November 10, 2014 at 8:34 pm

Great NaNo Mantra! I must admit I really miss not participating in NaNo this year.

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:31 am

      I’m still developing the NaNo Mantra…adding a few more phrases…not that I’m NaNo’ing…maybe one day…

  6. Sammy D on November 10, 2014 at 8:48 pm

    Edit the excess.

  7. Mary Pax on November 10, 2014 at 9:28 pm

I say break a pen a lot. My two nieces are doing NaNo. Aww.

Intertrigo is a word for teleportation between worlds in the same solar system.

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:33 am

Your nieces are doing it? Aww. How old are they?
      That’s the ‘perfect Pax interpretation’… 🙂

  8. J.L. Campbell on November 10, 2014 at 10:03 pm

Here’s hoping your winning streak continues. Now the study of juvenile delinquency is trapped inside a funny-sounding word.

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:33 am

My winning streak has gone through the roof——————-

  9. Christine Rains on November 11, 2014 at 12:57 am

I’m cheering all the NaNoers even though I’m not participating! 🙂 The IWSGCC is an awesome idea.

Hmm, intertrigo. When you end up in another dimension from doing too much trigonometry.

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:34 am

Is the brain or the body transported to another dimension? Mental or physical time travel? Great concept. I wonder how this would play out in a story… 🙂

  10. Krystal Jane on November 11, 2014 at 2:01 am

There is a study of juvenile delinquency! Awesome. 🙂

INTERTRIGO: the innermost jail cell in an underground prison
Haha, Christine’s definition is the best!

Congratulations on your winning streak! Wow!!

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:36 am

Great definition. Sounds like that jail cell belongs in a sci-fi/dystopian story… 🙂 Yes, Christine’s definition is also awesome!

  11. Patricia Lynne on November 11, 2014 at 2:13 am

    You find such fun words!

  12. Lexa Cain on November 11, 2014 at 2:27 am

Wishing you and the other NaNo-ers much luck – and lots of coffee! 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:37 am

      I’m not NaNoWriMo’ing… 🙂 Just developing a mantra for future reference…in case I decide to do it…

  13. Hilary on November 11, 2014 at 8:10 am

Hi Michelle – great explanation from Holly – but sometimes I’m glad there are real explanations! InterTrigo … internal tricycle go routes round your social media complex …

Good luck to all NaNoers … and to Mary for her Realms Faire .. while the IWSG and its off shoots .. is just amazing – cheers Hilary

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:39 am

…and the real explanations are often a far cry from the ‘made-up’ ones…which provides lots of fun and laughter…oh, and also gets the imagination over-working… 🙂

  14. Medeia Sharif on November 11, 2014 at 2:03 pm

It sounds like something medical, since the last half of the word I’ve encountered before.

It’s nice seeing the Realms Faire around.

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:40 am

I think the real definition IS something in the medical field.

  15. Sherry Ellis on November 11, 2014 at 2:21 pm

Best of luck to the NaNo writers. Probably, “Need More Coffee,” would be a suitable mantra!

  16. Nicki Elson on November 11, 2014 at 2:37 pm

    Congrats on all your wins!

I think Intertrigo is that dizzy, scrambled brain feeling you get when you’ve been online for too long. (It’s not just me, is it?)

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:41 am

I can definitely agree with that one. No, you’re not alone. Me too. 🙂

  17. Tyrean on November 11, 2014 at 9:35 pm

    Congrats on your wins!
Huzzah for Realms Faire and the Critique group!

Intertrigo – entering into a three part maze to find the inner diadem of mathematical bliss . . 🙂 or something like that . . .

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:43 am

‘entering into a three part maze to find the inner diadem of mathematical bliss’ sounds AWESOME! Plus it’s related to Christine’s answer above! 🙂

  18. Toi Thomas on November 11, 2014 at 10:06 pm

Good luck with your winning streak. I can’t wait to find out what Intertrigo means.

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:43 am

I need to look up the answer shortly, and post the winners!

  19. Chrys Fey on November 11, 2014 at 10:28 pm

I love that mantra. What about…Chuck a book?

I’m afraid I’m not very good with creating definitions, but I enjoy reading what everyone else comes up with. 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:44 am

Chuck a book…yes, especially in that moment of frustration, when the words don’t seem to flow as well as you expect them too…? 🙂

  20. Carol Kilgore on November 11, 2014 at 11:17 pm

    Congrats to Holly!

Intertrigo is that new game everybody’s playing online. Haven’t you heard? Oh, except writers. We’re too busy to play games 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:45 am

Ah, new online game – it fits! But I have no knowledge of it. That means I’m writing. 🙂

  21. Anna Simpson on November 12, 2014 at 5:28 am

verb; meaning: the act of trying to get answers while chasing your spouse through the house, and possibly down the street….with or without a rolling pin or rubber hose.

    Anna from Shout with Emaginette

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:46 am

I love the mental image that goes with this one! 🙂

  22. dolorah on November 12, 2014 at 5:36 am

Sorry I missed the joust 🙁

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:47 am

It was loads of fun! Never mind, there’s always next year… 🙂

  23. Crystal Collier on November 12, 2014 at 1:41 pm

11 books and $50? Man! I won a 13 book giveaway a month ago, and then about 12 individual books, but it’s been a while since I won any cash. Maybe I just haven’t been entering as many things because I’ve got 60+ books on my kindle just waiting to be read.

I love Chrys’s “Chuck a book.” That’s one I could totally get behind. (Mostly because I don’t want to be in the flying book’s path.)

    Unleashing the Dreamworld

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:48 am

Well, since I posted this (a week ago), I’ve won more books and a $15 Amazon gift card…so the winning streak has continued!

  24. Loni Townsend on November 12, 2014 at 5:24 pm

I hope NaNo is going well for you, and you’re breaking many pencils. I am a keyboard jammer myself. 🙂

I saw you on the critique circle. It’s a great group, one I look forward to diving into more once NaNo ends.

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:49 am

I’m not doing NaNo, but just writing at my own snail’s pace…though the snail seems to be a bit faster these days… 🙂

  25. Morgan Shamy on November 13, 2014 at 6:20 am

What a great idea, Michelle! So wonderful. What a great way for writers to meet and connect and have their work critiqued. Brilliant. <3

  26. Nick Wilford on November 13, 2014 at 2:37 pm

Intertrigo is like vertigo except it’s the fear of huge distances of space when you’re engaged in intergalactic travel.

Excellent NaNo mantra. Is “corrupt a hard drive” a touch too far? I’m happy with my progress even though I’ve been behind the whole way (but not by too much).

Congrats on the winning, and more avenues to find critters are always welcome!

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:52 am

      ‘Corrupt a hard drive’
Whoa! That’s hectic…but appropriate when you’re at the height of frustration. Good luck with the rest of NaNo! 🙂

  27. Beth on November 13, 2014 at 6:06 pm

ha that does sound like a medical term! Nice to see everyone’s moving along with NaNo! woo!

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:54 am

Yep, the NaNo bandwagon is moving along, with all types of travellers, some in the steering position, others hanging precariously from the edge…while I’m on the ground just cheering them along… 🙂

  28. cathrina constantine on November 14, 2014 at 12:55 pm

    Cheers to all the NaNoers!!!

  29. Peaches Ledwidge on November 14, 2014 at 10:22 pm

    Sitting back and watching everyone.

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:55 am

Me too. It’s a comfortable spot. And we get to pass refreshments to the travellers…

  30. joylene on November 15, 2014 at 3:31 am

I’m very interested in joining the critique group, but I want to wait until they plant an internet tower in my garden. Otherwise, it’s an inconsistent connection, and I hate being unreliable.

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 8:56 am

I understand…totally! See you there soon, Joylene!

  31. Nicki Elson on November 17, 2014 at 1:55 pm

I loved your Wisdom of the Creative Realms event.
      Thank you, Nicki! 🙂

  32. Julie K Pick on November 18, 2014 at 10:17 am

Congrats on all of your wins, Michelle! I told Alex that since you’ve been on this winning streak, I would love to go to Vegas with you! Then you could teach me the secret of Intertrigo, the interworkings of training rewards to spin toward you. Serves me right for posting this at 4am!

    • Michelle Wallace on November 18, 2014 at 12:51 pm

Imagine what a ball we would have in Vegas! All that money to be won….. 🙂 If ever I’m in a position to travel to Vegas, I’ll definitely let you know… 🙂
