N is for NIDIFICATION

Notification! N-Day is here, all you nervous and normal narrators and novelists! This is a noteworthy newsflash to nip and neutralize the negativity of the narrow-minded, non-supportive, nasty naysayers… who had the nerve to say:  never, no ways, it will come to naught and you are all nuts, numbskulls and  nincompoops and not likely to nail the challenge. The notorious A to Z nomads are still navigating new territories and discovering new neighbours!

The PinYin A to Z Project

Yóu xì bî mò fãn yì fei huà……..

— is an old Chinese philosophy which refers to somebody who has the innate ability to decipher unusual words.

JUST JOKING.

(you can read the details about this challenge and the competition running throughout the month of April)

The word for Day 14 is—

                                    NIDIFICATION

This is the constant nitpicking, fault-finding attitude displayed by people who "mean well" and are always on hand to help, offer advice and lend support under the guise of  "constructive criticism".

So that's my definition. What's yours? Post it in the comment box below. Remember you stand to win a prize.

I don't think I've ever seen so many N words in a paragraph before!

    • Michelle Wallace on April 16, 2013 at 6:44 pm

Well, there's always a first time… thanks for the visit Melanie!

  3. shell flower on April 16, 2013 at 12:59 pm

Hey famous lady! You totally deserve a shout out. Nidification: This is the act of hiding under a rock when one is a bit nervous about being in the spotlight.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 16, 2013 at 6:46 pm

You got me with that one Tangent Shell!  As for the "famous" bit…  not sure I can do that…

  4. Catherine Noble on April 16, 2013 at 1:30 pm

I love that you managed to fit the word nincompoop into your post haha, bravo Michelle!

  5. Amy Jarecki on April 16, 2013 at 1:42 pm

Hi Michelle! Nice to meet you–and curses to the naysayers of the world!

    • Michelle Wallace on April 16, 2013 at 6:48 pm

Nice to meet you too, Amy! Down with the naysayers! 🙂

  6. Tyrean on April 16, 2013 at 2:12 pm

Congrats on your spotlight at Alex's blog! You rock!

Nidification: When the Knights of Ni kneel before their king and receive their new "ni" badges for their Ninja skills.

  7. Carol Kilgore on April 16, 2013 at 2:13 pm

Oooh, jargon! NID is the acronym for National Inventory Department. Nidification is the annual process of inventorying everything in your home, including the number of dust bunnies and cobweb strands, and reporting your survey results. The director of NID reports directly to the chairman of the Directorate of Intelligencia Nonsensical.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 16, 2013 at 6:53 pm

Hahahahaha! You are on a roll with these definitions! They just get better and better! I swear. Are you sure that you don't have an Intelligencia Nonsensical Dictionary that you're consulting before posting these definitions?

  8. Donna K. Weaver on April 16, 2013 at 2:36 pm

Wandered over from Alex's place. Love your N post. Did you do the artwork?

    • Michelle Wallace on April 16, 2013 at 7:00 pm

Hi Donna. My artisitic abilities do not really extend to designing/sketching/drawing… I wish they did. I cannot take any credit for the blog header besides telling the web designer which elements should be included in the design…

  9. Alex J. Cavanaugh on April 16, 2013 at 3:09 pm

Edification from the Newt Intelligence Department.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 16, 2013 at 7:02 pm

Intelligent frogs? Mmm… I'd imagine that their communication skills extend beyond the annoying croaking?

  10. C. Lee McKenzie on April 16, 2013 at 3:20 pm

Nidification is the last resort for those stuck in college without a hope of completing their degrees without incurring debt equal to that of the nation.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 16, 2013 at 7:03 pm

And the conclusion is that they would have to ———-? Are there options here?

  11. Suze on April 16, 2013 at 3:23 pm

High-energy post! I get the feeling nothing gets you down, either, Michelle. Go forth and overcome, girl.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 16, 2013 at 7:04 pm

Thanks Suze. I feel that you may be a kindred spirit… 🙂

  12. mary aalgaard on April 16, 2013 at 3:53 pm

No I don't have any identification.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 16, 2013 at 7:05 pm

Are you one of them nameless, faceless, non-existent types…?

  13. Misha on April 16, 2013 at 5:26 pm

I think it means to making something seem insignificant.

  14. Sherry Ellis on April 16, 2013 at 5:47 pm

It means to reduce something to it's smallest size possible so that it's itty bitty and nearly nada.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 16, 2013 at 7:08 pm

I get the mental image of something shrinking… disintegrating… dissolving to almost nothingness…

  15. Sarah on April 16, 2013 at 6:45 pm

    Sweet blog!

Nidification: making a silly thought non-existent… or maybe it has something to do with the metamorphosis of a nidi bug… Those are my guesses. 🙂

Good luck with the rest of A-to-Z!

  20. Julie on April 16, 2013 at 8:08 pm

Well hello the Greta Garbo of blogging! Enjoy your well-deserved day in the spotlight! NIDIFICATION – The act of removing lice from young students at outdoor education.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 17, 2013 at 7:35 pm

Thanks for the gracious title Julie… Greta Garbo? Actually, I think you deserve that title! 🙂

  21. Murees Dupé on April 16, 2013 at 8:17 pm

I just love how you put the narrominded people in their place in this post.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 17, 2013 at 7:41 pm

There are sooooo many of those nit-picking types… oh well, I suppose it takes all kinds to make this world…

  22. celeste on April 16, 2013 at 8:35 pm

Awesome!!!! Short, sweet, and very inspiring! 🙂

  23. Nancy LaRonda Johnson on April 16, 2013 at 8:46 pm

Nidification is when a well educated person denies his learnedness and pretends to be unlearned, even idiotic. It occurs for various reasons, including, fearing for his life when lost in the backwoods he meets up with the "locals", or the new boss is an idiot but is is vengeful and holds all the power.

    p.s. the link works. 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on April 17, 2013 at 7:44 pm

The office dummy is no threat to anybody… the workers barely notice him…. so nidification tactics would work well in this situation. 🙂

  24. The Golden Eagle on April 16, 2013 at 8:58 pm

Nidification: The process of yelling "NO!" when two MIDI devices refuse to talk to each other.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 17, 2013 at 7:49 pm

When it comes to technology, I'm ALWAYS yelling "NO"! The devices never seem to do what I want them to do!

  25. Elise Fallson on April 16, 2013 at 10:11 pm

Nidification. This is when certain people have the unexplained desire to sleep in man-sized nests made of sticks and branches, like birds do.

    😀

    • Michelle Wallace on April 17, 2013 at 7:54 pm

Very smart, linking your definition closely to the original…  🙂

      • Elise Fallson on April 18, 2013 at 6:02 am

        Knowing a little French helps a bit. (;

  26. Nick Wilford on April 16, 2013 at 11:06 pm

Pretty much what you said. There's a very "fussy" vibe to this word, isn't there? Great to see you at Alex's today! 🙂

  27. Alex J. Cavanaugh on April 16, 2013 at 11:31 pm

Michelle, so happy to see the new visitors here!!

    • Michelle Wallace on April 17, 2013 at 7:56 pm

Once again, thanks for the feature at your place, Alex! 🙂

  28. Michael Di Gesu on April 17, 2013 at 3:22 am

This has got me thinking of the horrid verifications words and numbers by blogger for security… WE HATE THEM!!!!!!

SO nidification means the ZAPPING of those nasty numbers and letters that NONE OF US can ever get right….

    • Michelle Wallace on April 17, 2013 at 8:08 pm

Down with CAPTCHA! Let's nidificate those nasty words/numbers! I'm CONVINCED that the people who set up the word verification system are in cahoots with the National Optometrical Society, in a conspiracy to weaken our eyes… those captcha thinggies get more and more skewed everytime…

  29. Texas Playwright Chick on April 17, 2013 at 4:14 am

My definition is pretty close to yours…but I'd through in the word Annoying, because nit pickers usually are!

  30. Medeia Sharif on April 17, 2013 at 5:13 am

    This word has me stumped.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 17, 2013 at 8:11 pm

This is the first time… you've been on a roll with these definitions.

  31. Maïa on April 20, 2013 at 6:34 pm

Nidification (from medieval french nidi: nothing) noun

The action of elaborating on nothing, generally in reference to an argument or logical reasoning.

    Example 1

The politician made a long nidification to explain his decision, declaring in many words that the people should vote for him since he was the only one who would be brave enough to enforce such a law. The journalist's question as to why that law was a good idea remained unanswered.

    Example 2

Though your logical process is good, the hypothesis on which you base it cannot be proven in any way. Therefore, it is all mere nidification.

  32. Beverly on April 24, 2013 at 8:51 pm

    I like yours best, Michelle!

  33. Michelle Wallace on April 24, 2013 at 10:10 pm

    Thanks Bev!
