O is for Our Task…

Welcome to your daily dose of inspiration:
In Darkness Be Light

Since social media and news in recent times has been filled with so much hate and negativity, these simple reminders aim at promoting positivity and lightening up your day.

Our task must be to free ourselves… by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.    Albert Einstein

  • Keep your post to below 500 words, as much as possible.
  • All we ask is you link to a human news story on your blog on the last Friday of each month, one that shows love, humanity, and brotherhood. Something like this news, about a man who only fosters terminally ill children.

There are simple, basic things we can do to widen our circle of compassion in order to prevent the fabric of our society, and ultimately our very humanity, from being ripped apart. What are your thoughts on the subject?

Hi Michelle – wonderful quote here … spread our compassion, have compassionate thoughts as we see such sad things happening locally and around the world – your last paragraph is so important and I totally agree. Cheers Hilary

Yes, all living things. That’s why people who don’t love animals worry me.

Hi MIchelle – widening our compassion. We can start by showing compassion to ourselves for all our faults or things left undone, or harm or pain we may have caused as a way of really learning what compassion is .. with (com) passion .. and from that point spread it wider to all other beings, is my thought ..

A great quote that highlights a core paradox of life–being self-centered is enslaving; what is freeing is developing expansive loving compassion that’s other-focused.

I’ve seen a lot of great Einstein quotes and this is another good one. If only everyone thought of animals as being just as worthy as themselves, sadly it’s not the prevailing wisdom.

Einstein was a very wise man.

We need to remind ourselves that “doing onto others” doesn’t mean to get even but to treat others as we want to be treated. It is important to demonstrate by example, by offering compassion in place of blame or ridicule.

I love watching nature from a distance. I can see how it is a passion for many people. I agree we should have compassion for our fellow living beings.

This quote somehow reminds of a quote from the Upanishads – ‘vasudhaiva kutumbakam, all the world is a family’…

I’ve read several compassionate quotes from Einstein–it seems to contrary to what I know of him from his biography. I suppose it has a lot to do with his part in the atomic bomb.

Compassion is often a good thing. I wonder what he was referring to when he said “to free ourselves,” though. Free ourselves from what, exactly? Hmm. 🙂

Would be wonderful if we could all do this.
