Q is for Quacky Quest

Day 17 of the challenge!

My theme is NIFTY NUGGETS. Little nuggets of writing, based on a photo, a phrase and an object, which is designed to encourage lean, tight writing. I’m aiming for a word count of under 300 words.

Thank you to L.Diane Wolfe for providing the beautiful photo prompts.  You can visit her blog to check out more pictures.

QUACKY QUEST

QUACKY QUEST

PHRASE – the camera cannot lie, or can it?

OBJECT – tree house

I know that my smooth comments make no impression, sliding like water off a duck’s back, as you turn away from me with that characteristic flick of the head, full lips pursed in annoyance, grey eyes shooting a thousand messages.

It’s best to keep up the charade. We really wouldn’t want anybody to know what’s really going on now, would we?

The unspoken mutual agreement dictates a day to day normality.

I still pick up the hot croissants on a Saturday morning, the steaming coffee ready on the patio and the morning paper folded neatly beside it. We sit side by side in our matching bathrobes, a stilted silence embracing the scenario.

But it wasn’t always this way. There was a time long ago, when things were different; long before the fancy car, opulent house, extravagant holidays and total surrender to father time robbed us of the happiness…

Do you remember? It’s all there in the video footage taken when we were still young and crazy nomads, in love with nature; before the lure of money and bright lights obliterated the tree-house and carefree existence. The camera cannot lie, or can it?

An invitation nestles between the pages of the brochure.

One last chance to leave it all behind… re-visit that carefree world.

A month long rustic camp-out… a new beginning or the beginning of the end?

This one is sad. I think they need to go out and find that happiness again.

I’m sure the first part describes lots of couples. Love the picture as usual.
