Q is for Quick To Judge…

Welcome to your daily dose of inspiration:
In Darkness Be Light.

Since social media and news in recent times has been filled with so much hate and negativity, these simple reminders aim at promoting positivity and lightening up your day.

Quick to judge, quick to anger, slow to understand… prejudice, fear and ignorance walk hand-in-hand.  Neil Peart

Would you like to be a part of spreading positivity? Check out the We Are The World Blogfest, which aims at promoting positive news. Here’s the shortened version:

  • Keep your post to below 500 words, as much as possible.
  • All we ask is you link to a human news story on your blog on the last Friday of each month, one that shows love, humanity, and brotherhood. Something like this news, about a man who only fosters terminally ill children.
  • Join us on the last Friday of each month in sharing news.

The second we cross paths with someone else, we are analyzing them and making our own assumptions. It’s a part of human nature, but that doesn’t make it right. Why do we have this tendency?

Hi Michelle – I can fall into the Quick to Judge section … but the rest … I’m much more understanding and thoughtful – so maybe quick to judge, but it soon falls away as I understand the situation or the reason … excellent Q post – cheers Hilary

I don’t think I am – quick to judge that is, I used to be quick to anger till a classmate told me a few home truths in my teens, and since then I have wrestled it down to manageable levels…the blood cools as we age…and experience moderates the tendency to jump to conclusions about people we hardly know…

    Best always,
    Nila.

Why do we have this tendency? The fact that we recognise an unappealing quality in another, means that we own that quality ourselves – and it presses our buttons. Easier to project it onto ‘the other’ and deny it belongs in us … thanks Michelle for the quote too ..

I think it’s impossible to rid ourselves of this tendency completely, but when talking to someone new I try to keep an open mind and absorb what they’re saying without judgement. Often what I learn is different from what I expected, which just shows how wrong it is to make these snap judgements.

Great quote. Sadly, often all too true. Usually when we take the time to understand where someone is coming from our judgments fall away. But sometimes, that’s easier said than done.

Great quote. I think the human nature part comes from our primal self. We have a natural instinct to be wary of others because of potential harm. That being said, we can analyze the situation and determine friend or foe for the most part. There are a few that will fool us. That is another reason we are wary because of past experiences. ~ fellow WATWB member

I try not to be quick to judge but sometimes when I’m really tired I know I can be bit like this. Need to keep reminding myself to be patient and find out more first. Love the We are the World blogfest – you may just see me after this crazy month is over.

it’s a terrible habit but we are quick to judge, our mind is preset to judge, at least it appears so, it’s probably why it’s hard to change ourselves but we learn, if not at first but after a second and third try, we learn and we adjust, well, at least I hope that is what we do.

    have a lovely day.

    Neil Peart, as in Rush?

    It’s a nice quote. 🙂
