Bluebell SSS Prompt No. 12 ~ Starting Over

Tomorrow, I'm making a fresh start, cleaning up my act.

I assure you that this is not another hare-brained scheme, empty promise, blowing of hot air or going off on one of those crazy tangents … though I have been known to indulge in all the afore-mentioned moments …

I will change, start anew, a clean slate, because I have reason to do so. What makes it so different this time round, you ask, eyebrows raised, questioning and sceptical ? And I don't blame you one bit.

For the first time in my life, a helpless, innocent being is totally dependent on me. Need I explain further ?

So tomorrow is D-Day. The day I act on the courage of my convictions. When the exotic Danielle Lefebvre walks past my desk, swinging her hips, her oh-so-clever bon mots dripping from her high society botoxed lips that look ready to burst, and drops her files into my in-tray, then I will drop the bombshell.

At the end of the day, Ms. Lefebvre will remain the gum-chewing, botox blackmailer that she is ; but me, I'll be a proud, hardworking, committed father – sans Ms. L and my baby's mama.

C'est la vie …

    sweet,

what a confession from a father to a child, well done.

    • mish on October 14, 2011 at 4:29 pm

The innocent child has caused him to re-think his “wayward” behaviour…

    The innocent cannot speak.
    Good write, Mish.
    Ciao,
    Isadora

… but his presence can make a change, for the better (in this scenario) … it’s totally up to the father to carry out these good intentions. 🙂

a lot of people tell me they know people who "grow up" and/or who "get their act together" when they have their first child.

That’s true … if a helpless, dependent baby cannot get an adult to “grow up” and take responsibility for his actions, then said adult is in serious trouble.

That's nicely punchy and tightly written. Really enjoyed it.

    • mish on October 14, 2011 at 4:37 pm

Thanks for the constructive crit Jamie, I like the sound of “punchy” – means the piece has some ooomph !

fantastic little piece of the willful push for ones change in themselves!

    • mish on October 16, 2011 at 7:50 am

I think that the desire has to come from deep within the individual…in the long run, there’s more of a chance that it will work out. Thanks A.B.

You do know you've instilled an idea within my wee witty mind, don't you? Well, I can't get pregnant so that idea just flew out the window.  How will I get that man to settle down? Ha-ha-ha!  Oh, that was a good one!

    • mish on October 16, 2011 at 11:08 am

If my piece instilled something in your mind, then I’m satisfied… it made some sort of an impression on the reader ! Glad to be of service, m’dear. 🙂
Thanks for your wonderful response to my flash fiction.

Good one!  He's going to make the ultimate sacrifice…  Doing wrong for the right reasons eventually becomes just hipocrisy.  Good for him!  Yes, he'll lose the baby's mama, but he'll keep his integrity.  And then, someday, he'll question himself at 3AM: was that also wrong, even if it was for the rightest of reasons?
    Thank you for sharing this!

      Quite the dilemma, isn’t it?
