The Insecure Writer’s Support Group ~ No#85

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer – aim for a dozen new people each time.

The awesome co-hosts for the January posting of the IWSG are: Patricia Lynne, Lisa Buie-Collard, Kim Lajevardi, and Fundy Blue!

Don’t forget to visit them and thank them for co-hosting!

Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.

Sorry about the late post. I had blog problems and my web host was away on holiday so there was nothing I could really do about it. On top of this, my internet line is down and so I’m posting from my i-Pad (second time) so please excuse any formatting and other glitches!! I DON’T like posting from the i-Pad… the screen is too small PLUS it’s not the same as the desk top. The buttons etcetera are in a different place and with the new WordPress features, (block verses classic editor mode…aaaargh! Who cares?? I just want to post as normal), it’s been a nightmare trying to figure this out! I’m STILL looking for the font button!

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.
Remember, the question is optional!

JANUARY 02nd QUESTION: What are your favorite and least favorite questions people ask you about your writing? I don’t really encourage conversation about my writing. I first try to gauge whether the interest is genuine or a pretense, then I respond accordingly. Maybe it’s unfair of me to think this way, but nothing annoys me more than people who have a poor or uninformed point of view about writers and the writing process.

Oh well, it is what it is… I suppose.

I’m revving up for the 2019 WEP+IWSG challenge. I had a great run last year. Check my side bar to see the badges. Thank you to the WEP team for all the hard work they put in to make this a success!

I think this is enough trauma for one day. Hopefully the Internet line will be up and running soon. I’ll be visiting some blogs over the next few days. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYBODY!!

    No worries about being late.
You scored big with the last WEP, so keep it going this year.

Whew! I’m glad to see your post. I was very concerned when I tried to access your page last week and it wouldn’t load. T’would be a sad day indeed if you were to vanish from the interwebs. And I completely agree with you about writing questions. I tend to give very brief basic answers until I’m convinced the other person actually wants to engage.

I’m glad you have access to your site again. i would panic. I’d also panic with no Internet.

I don’t like posting from my iPad either, although I do love it for other things. Happy 2019!

Look at all your badges! I’m so happy you got your site back up. I know there’s an option to post from my phone, but I don’t EVER want to do that. The screen is itty bitty! Happy New Year and see you next month. 🙂

Computer problems can be so frustrating. Awesome that you did so good on the challenges.

I’m much the same when someone asks about my editing. Either they think, “Oh, how fun to read all day,” like I’m sitting in a recliner with a mug of coffee enjoying a good book by the fire. Or they assume I’m judging everything they’ve ever written to me or on social media. Honestly, I have a life, haha. And good books aren’t good books until they’re edited, so I don’t always get something that’s immediately enjoyable.

I don’t engage in conversations about writing with non-writers often either. It just seems easier.

I saw there was an issue with your blog. Glad to see you posting. =)

I won’t post on anything except the computer. A pad or phone is just too little. I don’t even enjoy texting! Hope your 2019 has gotten off to a great start. 🙂

Hi, Michelle! Kudos to you for posting via an iPad. I feel your technology pain, and I’m sure it was a frustrating experience for you. I tried to do an IWSG post last fall on a train in England and ended getting locked out of all my Google things for three days ~ argh. So, I am impressed with what you managed. The 2019 WEP+IWSG challenge looks like fun. Maybe I’ll jump in somewhere. I’ve enjoyed reading a number of the “Ribbons and Candles” posts. I don’t mind talking about writing with people who are really interested in writers and the writing process ~ Must be that third grade teacher inside me. But if people aren’t sincerely interested, on to another topic I go. Have a good one ~ and may future posts be smooth with carefree technology!

When someone wants to talk about writing with me, I’m always a bit nervous about where the conversation is about to go. There seem to be a lot of people who know nothing about writers or writing and yet have very strong opinions about us and how we do our work.

Glad you resolved the blog/internet problems. Happy New Year!

Michelle, not much can make the heart skip like a tech glitch. Here’s to a glitch-free 2019 for you and yours!

Sorry to hear about your computer problems. I agree about the difficulty writing on an iPad. I hope things get straightened out quickly. Despite all that, I’m pleased you stopped in to read my blog. Thanks.

My tablet is strictly for web surfing or reading with the Kindle app. I cannot compose or post with that tiny little keyboard. And I’m with you on not discussing writing with non-writers. I’ve gotten to the point where I regret having told anyone outside the writing world that I’m working on a novel. Most people mean well, but the conversations become so awkward and I already suck at chit chat.

Hope all of your technological aggravations get resolved.

Hi Michelle. I just wanted to drop by and say HI! Also let you know I FINISHED my memoir! YAY! I can’t believe it. The Blurb King is done. What a chore. It was my first book in a decade. I can’t believe how fast the time has gone by. Too fast! If you’d like to read it, I’ll send you a copy. Love to know what you think! I know how busy how are, but I just wanted you to enjoy it, since you’ve been so supportive of my work throughout the years.
