THE PROMPT
"The water barely rippled as she entered…”
Drops of water glistened as they rose into the air, arched their tails in the back flip position, then slipped under the water, five graceful water gymnasts, bodies in perfect symmetry, in tune with the flow of their surroundings.
The morning rays showcased irridescent bodies, fragile scales molded together, which shimmered like hundreds of precious stones.
Their ritualistic dance of slipping and slicing through the water to the sounds of music that lived in their hearts and souls, undetected by the human ear, was as ancient as time itself…
The lone spectator walked away. He had to let her go.
This was beautiful as usual.
Hugs,
Shelly
Thanks Shelly! 🙂
He loved a mermaid then?
…well, I guess so… at least he's smart enough to realise that he must let go…
Pure poetry 🙂
Thanks Carol! 🙂
The synchronised swimming has been wonderful, hasn't it? You've captured it beautifully.
The water events have been wonderful! Especially when our homegrown boy beat Phelps!
Pretty. Loved the alliteration.
Thanks Tonja!
Thanks for the lovely comment. This was very visual. I originally was going to do a mermaid piece also 😀
The prompt lent itself to a mermaid tale! 🙂 Thanks Sue.
Like so many of your stories, I can practically hear the music playing in the background.
That's a great compliment, Jocelyn! Thank you! 🙂
Oh, how sad. I love your descriptions, though!
Thanks G.E. 🙂
Love the imagery–makes me want to know more…what happens next?
Bless you!
I'm glad you liked the imagery, Cheryl! Bless you too! 🙂
Achingly beautiful! Well done.

Very beautiful! Was this inspired by the olympics (synchronized swimming)?
That did cross my mind… 🙂
Gorgeous writing! 🙂
Have a great weekend.
Thanks Medeia! 🙂

Michelle, this was outstanding, fluid, graceful and elegant, like the gymnasts 🙂
What a wonderful analogy! Thanks for the lovely compliment, Rachna! 🙂
wow! beautiful at the same time sad. (The last line) I think you captured the man's emotions very well.
Thanks for the visit Cecilia!
Is this the alternative ending to the movie Splash? 😉
Only kidding! I really liked this one. Very evocative.
W.
Is that the movie with Darryl Hannah? Or Bo Derek? Or am I wrong on both counts… sorry, I'm "movie-challenged" 🙁
Yep, its the one with Daryl Hannah and Tom Hanks. If you haven't seen it, you aren't missing much!
lovely piece. Falling in love with a mermaid is never a good idea. Smart guy. 🙂
