A Punk Full Of Steam + Oh, How I Miss You Blogfest + A 7 Book Win!

Okay, tell me the first thing that went through your mind when you read "A Punk Full Of Steam"? NO CHEATING! LOL.

Well, up until recently, I had no idea what Steampunk was. I saw the word all over cyber space, but had no clue what it was all about. But we learn something new everyday. And I love learning new things.

So steampunk is not a punk who is filled with steam, as in a rebellious youngster/hoodlum who is filled with an inflated sense of his own self-importance; nor is it the title of an album. I've discovered that it is a genre. I think it has something to do with machinery. Somebody please elaborate here?

Jason Reyes, who writes in this genre, is set to release his book dragonfly Warrior. Check out the cover and the blurb…

The Mechanica Wars: Savage Machines Are Afoot…
At the age of twenty, Kanze Zenjiro's bloody footprints mark the bodies of those who stood in his way to protect the throne of Nihon. Now, the tyrannical Iberian Empire is bent on destroying his kingdom, and they send their steam-powered giants and iron spiders against him.
Zen embarks on a quest that takes him on the most dangerous journey of his life. To succeed, Zen must live up to his nickname, the Dragonfly Warrior, and kill all his enemies with only a sword and a pair of six-guns. He is called upon to somehow survive a test of faith and loyalty in a world so cruel and merciless, it borders on madness.

Book Information: Dragonfly Warrior is a steampunk adventure like no other. It's a dynamic mix of Asian and European mythology, the Wild West, martial arts, traditional fantasy, and high powered steam action that will keep you turning the pages.

Dragonfly Warrior is the first book of The Mechanica Wars, and will debut on January 6, 2014.

November 8, 2013 – hosted by Andrew Leon, Alex J. Cavanaugh, and Matthew MacNish

                                                 Next blogfest!

The bloggers we really miss…and the ones we would really miss!

Do you have a couple blogger buddies who aren’t posting as often? Those who’ve pulled back and seem absent from the blogging world? Do you have blogger buddies you are grateful they are still around and would miss if they vanished? Now is your chance to show your appreciation and spotlight them!

On November 8, list one to three bloggers you really miss and one to three bloggers you would miss if they stopped blogging. Then go leave a comment on those blogs.

Our blogger friends are special – time to let them know!

I truly appreciate each and every blogger who stops by to read/leave a comment. Of course there are those who are extra special, but there are sooooo many… I just cannot pinpoint a few.

However, I'm going to list a few bloggers who I seem to have lost along the way…

Catherine Noble

Leslie Sulli-Rose

Robyn Campbell

Rekha Seshadri

Golden Eagle

Mel Kinnel

Jocelyn Rish

Mary Aalgaard

Now I'm off to let them know that I'm thinking about them… try and re-connect with them…

    Hi Michelle,

To be missed by someone you like and appreciate is a very nice feeling but not so good for the one doing the missing.

What can I say? I propose and life enjoys throwing a spanner on my works. First the relocation and then my Dad's ill health…has been a stressful time in my life. But, your little message brought a smile on my face. :0 )

So, I solemnly swear on all the blogging gurus, I will visit your blog atleast once a week, till  I revive my 'on lifesupport' blog.

Congrats on winning all those books and happy reading. I once won a $20 Amazon voucher in a giveaway and I remember spending all of it on 4/5 books.

    Enjoy your busy weekend.

About Steampunk – it is often a  fantasy or science fiction tale that combines 18th century steam power machinery with futuristic suitations. Like a computer or a fighter jet controlled by steam power, with characters dressing up in vintage style clothes. They work on the premise – what if the world hasn't discovered any other technology besides steam power.

Very interesting concept, Rekha! Thank you for the explanation. 🙂

I know a few of those bloggers you miss, but now that you mention it I haven't seen them around lately either.

I know most of those bloggers. Mary and Robyn still blog fairly regularly. See Rekha found you again – I miss her as well.

Congratulations on all of your winnings!

I read my first steampunk trilogy just recently.  It was by Scott Westerfeld and the first was called Leviathon.  In this case, he went back in time to the start of WWI and changed the face of the weaponry of the nations.  Germany and its allies relied on mechanics (far more advanced than anything we have now) and England and its allies all became Darwinists, incorporating hybrid animals to become a living, breathing warship.  Very interesting.  I look forward to reading Jay's book and dipping my toe into more steampunk adventure.

Hybrid animals become a living, breathing warship? Wow, that's really stretching the imagination…  it gets more and more bizarre, in an interesting way, of course!

Hey Michelle – I'm so touched. You have inspired me to get back up on the blogging horse. Here's to reconnecting. xo

  7. Viklit on November 9, 2013 at 9:03 pm

    Congrats on all your winnings!!

  8. Andrew on November 9, 2013 at 10:00 pm

Good choices! Some of those are people I should check up on.

  9. Shelly on November 10, 2013 at 9:05 pm

Hope your weekend I chocoltey good!

  10. Gary on November 10, 2013 at 10:16 pm

    Hi Michelle,

And to think I only recently discovered what "Flash" fiction was 🙂  All the best to Jay with the "release" of his book in January to a "captive" audience.  See what I did there?

It's all good here.  I'm even going to control myself and not rant about yet another blogfest!!!  I know of some of your choices.  I get emails from folks who have stopped blogging for a number of reasons.  Mostly they put too much pressure on themselves.  Another reason is that some could no longer mask themselves with an alter ego.  I do know that we wish all well, no matter what they decide.

Hope you have a lovely remainder of your weekend.

    Gary 🙂

Thanks so much for sharing my cover with everyone. I didn't know what "steampunk" was when I first started writing this book. Apparently, I was reading and writing steampunk works and didn't know it.

  12. J.L. Campbell on November 11, 2013 at 1:20 am

Man, you were lucky last month. Good for you. You'll stay occupied with reading for a while. I know maybe 3 of the bloggers on your list. Hope they are all doing well.

  13. Robyn Campbell on November 11, 2013 at 7:22 am

I heart you. So very much. I will stop by more regularly. I'm gonna kick me for you. Okay? OUCHIE! *wink* *wink* *waves peace sign*

  14. Robyn Campbell on November 11, 2013 at 7:24 am

P.S. You made my heart smile.

    P.P.S Steampunk is rad! 🙂

  15. Jay Noel on November 11, 2013 at 2:32 pm

Yes, I miss Golden Eagle too!!!

  16. Mel Kinnel on November 11, 2013 at 4:12 pm

Hi Michelle, I feel honored that you miss me and it inspires me to get my butt in gear. I know that I've said this before, but I really am planning on returning to blogging. I promise! 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on November 14, 2013 at 9:50 am

All in good time Mel! great to hear from you. 🙂

  17. Jen on November 12, 2013 at 7:44 pm

Wow! That's pretty awesome you won all those books! Congratulations :). Yes, I've lost touch with a few bloggers over the years, but I do try to pop in and touch base with many of them from time to time. It's nice to see an old blog friend's face pop up in my comment feed!

I LOVE Steampunk. My sister introduced me to the genre about 4 years ago and I've been a bit obsessed by it ever since. I have been mulling around a Steampunk series for about as long too…I'm a bit intimidated to try writing it!

    Cheers,
    Jen

    • Michelle Wallace on November 14, 2013 at 9:51 am

Jen, you are such a great writer… I think you have the ability to write anything you put your mind to… IMHO.

  18. Emily R. King on November 13, 2013 at 1:14 am

Seven books? Woot! And I miss Leslie and Robyn too. Glad you mentioned them!

  19. Crystal Collier on November 13, 2013 at 10:50 pm

My goodness, seven books? Why haven't you hit the lottery yet? 😉

    • Michelle Wallace on November 14, 2013 at 9:53 am

It IS the lottery! A literary lottery… LOL 🙂

  20. Michelle Wallace on November 14, 2013 at 9:54 am

Thank you to everybody who visited and left a comment. Sorry I didn't get a chance to reply to each individual comment. 🙂

  21. Catherine Noble on November 15, 2013 at 11:52 pm

Awwwwwwww, thank you, lovely! What a thoughtful post 🙂 I might not be blogging as much, but you won't lose me along the way, don't worry, I'm always here!

    Take care

Sniff. This post makes me both happy and sad. Happy that someone like you misses me, but sad that I've been such a bad blogging buddy. Things got pushed to the side as I dug deep to finally finish my rewrite and then then NaNo came by and sucked up even more time. Hopefully December will be better for me for getting back into regular blogging.

  23. The Golden Eagle on November 26, 2013 at 6:53 pm

I can't believe it took me so long to see your comment on my blog–and find this! Now I miss the blogosphere even more. I know, I haven't been blogging much recently. Things have gotten busy this schoolyear and I haven't been able to find good chunks of time to really blog the way I used to. But hopefully next month or starting in 2014 things will sort themselves out. I do intend to return. 🙂
