Step-By-Step with my A To Z Project + Celebrations

The PinYin A to Z ProjectThis is a pre-A to Z post which gives details about my A to Z project.

The A to Z Blogging Challenge takes place during the entire month of April. Every day of April (excluding Sundays), participants have to post on their blogs coordinating with a letter in the alphabet (Day 1 = A, Day 2 = B, etc).

Now onto my project…

Yóu xì bî mò fãn yì fei huà

WHAT A MOUTHFUL! (I know that's what you're probably thinking)

This is an old Chinese phrase dating back to the Ming-Qing dynasty. It refers to someone who has the innate ability to translate/decipher unusual words.

How cool is that? Super cool!

I know there will be some sceptics out there… you can quit raising those eyebrows… yes, you reading this… don't think I didn't notice…

Do you really think I'd invent something like that? I did intensive research. I trawled the Internet. I even interviewed a Chinese professor and a renowned Chinese linguist. It took me months and months…

Ok, time to ‘fess up… so it doesn’t actually mean that. I did invent it. I could tell you what it means (because I looked it up), but I'm not going to.

AND…

You could look it up, but it will spoil the fun if you do.

The whole month of April, I am going to post a word*–the meaning known to me, BUT I will post my own definition with accompanying nonsense.

And to make it easier, I've called this challenge……

                        The PinYin Project!

THAT’S NOT ALL…

I want you to have a go in the comments section. You also leave your own definition for the day's word. Have fun with it, too. If you know the real meaning please don’t spoil the fun… make something up anyway…

Because, there's something in it for you.

At the end of the project, on 01 May, I will post my 5 or 6 or 7 or….. well it depends on my mood… let's just say, a collection of my favourite comment definitions, for everyone to vote on.

Bloggers should choose the best–most creative, fun, and/or ridiculous! It’s up to you. The winner will get a gift equivalent to the letter. For example, if an E commenter wins, then the gift will equal 5 units/items. If a J commenter wins, then the gift will equal 10 units/items. The units/items will remain a mystery until the 01 May.

Yes, it sounds kind of silly –  that's the whole point. Take a couple of minutes – break away from the everyday humdrum blogging schedule and S-T-R-E-T-C-H that imagination.

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT! For those of you who intend popping in to play, you'll know exactly what to do. That will save you precious minutes.

                                                     *          *          *          *          *

Today I'm celebrating the fact that my friend Brinda has finally set up her blog, and has signed up for the A to Z Challenge. YAY! Please pop in and at her place show her some bloggy love!

This awesome bloghop is hosted by VikLit over at Scribblings Of An Aspiring Author.  Check it out!

To all my bloggy buddies who are celebrating Good Friday and the Easter season… have a blessed and peaceful one!

See you all on Monday! WOO-HOO! Let the fun begin!

Glad I'm first today, because I might be too nervous to go first on Monday! I love your creative theme, and there is hope for me if the object is to be wrong! I can't wait to see what you come up with Michelle!

    • Michelle Wallace on March 30, 2013 at 8:45 am

Julie, you were my very first commenter in last year's A to Z Challenge, so wouldn't it be fun to snatch that position again? Don't be nervous. Just go with it. Have fun. It's a chance to be as silly as you like. 🙂 See you Monday!

I wonder if this relates to my inability to say the word coincidence.  The fact that it means 'by chance' or that most people believe it is random is lost on me – I find myself describing it as the synchronicity of two or more things that coincide, so therefore pronounce it as co-incidence.  I really look forward to your posts – the sillier the better 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on March 30, 2013 at 8:53 am

I always wonder about the hyphen usage/non-usage in coincidence, or is it co-incidence? Still not sure. And it does involve synchronicity, so it makes me wonder about the "by chance" part of things… ah, the complexities of the english language! 🙂

  4. Alex J. Cavanaugh on March 29, 2013 at 11:51 am

That does sound like fun! Prepare for snarky silliness to ensue.

    • Michelle Wallace on March 30, 2013 at 8:54 am

Bring it on Captain! Let's see who is the snarkiest of them all! 🙂

  5. L. Diane Wolfe on March 29, 2013 at 1:16 pm

We get to make stuff up? That will be fun!

    • Michelle Wallace on March 30, 2013 at 8:55 am

It's an exercise in silliness! Legitimate silliness. It has a nice ring, doesn't it?

  6. tara tyler on March 29, 2013 at 1:34 pm

Darn it, I'm supposed to be taking the month of April off from blogging, people, but I keep seeing all these really neat themes for the A-Z. Like yours. Your plan sounds totally fun! (Insert long Greta Garbo sigh.)  Guess I'm gonna have to stop by.

(Even if I don't… I hope you have a blast with it!)

    Happy Easter.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 1, 2013 at 6:55 am

    • Michelle Wallace on April 1, 2013 at 7:00 am

Not too sure… 🙂 I imagine that there are lots of word challenge themes in the A to Z, but each one would have its own unique "twist"

  27. Mel Kinnel (@TizMellyMel) on April 1, 2013 at 4:41 am

Your A to Z theme sounds pretty cool! I'll be looking for your posts beginning Monday!
