The drabble challenge is a weekly challenge hosted by Aheila on her blog : http://thewriteaholicblog.wordpress.com A reminder how it works : read the prompt and find your angle ; write a drabble (100 word story , give or take 5 words) ; post a direct link to the drabble in your comments .

A stoic silence permeated the room . Six pens poised above their documents in thoughtful contemplation . The sporadic action of my unseen hands , clenching and unclenching , the only outward indication of my inner state . I sat upright and calm , seemingly poised and confident before the jury who were about to deliver the verdict … seal my fate … The sensation in the pit of my stomach persisted . A feeble attempt to clear a dry , scratchy throat cut the atmosphere . An interminable moment passed . Finally … six pairs of eyes cast a cursory glance in my direction . The head of the committee opened his mouth to speak …
caught the moment and the feeling nicely! good not to be in the dock.
… the dread of wondering is worse than the actual verdict !
I remember the time my friends asked me to accompany them to the Canadian Idol auditions. Since I was there, I decided to try out (and chose my songs in the waiting line.) Standing with four other people for the first audition (in front of three judges) was interestingly nerve-wrecking. After everyone sung, we had the exact scene you described. And then the head of the comittee opened his mouth…
I think that the waiting and anticipation is the worse part … it’s like you can cut the tension with a knife … and this applies to many different real-life situations like interviews & competitions etc .
totally felt the dread! i hate public speaking and i’m a sub, but it’s not the same…
I know exactly what you mean ! I am quite comfortable standing in front of a class to deliver a lesson ~ but I dread speaking in front of crowds … you’re SO RIGHT , it’s not the same …
I feel exactly the same way after sending out query letters. 😛
have a great memorial day weekend!

I can imagine the feeling ~ I’ve read many many blog posts that talk about it … the anxiety … the waiting … the dread … I have yet to experience it … one day … hopefully in the not-too-distant-future … 🙂
