DRABBLE CHALLENGE ~ MILESTONE

The drabble challenge is a weekly challenge hosted by Aheila on her blog: http://thewriteaholicblog.wordpress.com A reminder how it works: read the prompt and find your angle; write a drabble (100 word story, give or take 5 words); post a direct link to the drabble in your comments.

A walk, like a laugh, or one's handwriting, becomes a signature, making our mark across space.

The removal of your signature swagger left certain areas of your life unmarked. The distinctive walk non-existent, obliterated by a near fatal accident.

It has been too long since the last attempt. Time has come. Step out. Reclaim your signature.

Unfamiliar. Cautious. Stagnant limbs refuse to budge.

Slow. Painful. Jelly limbs flutter.

Movement. As faint as the hint of erased pencil markings on a white page.

Against all odds.

You leave your long-awaited mark, smudged and undefined… the first tentative step to recovery.

Interesting challenge, I like the way you connected the image to your words. Short, yet wise and beautiful writing! Thank you Michelle for your visit!

Oh, very nice. Evocative & inspiring. And the erased pencil marks–just lovely.

You said so much in so few words. This is the first I have seen of the Drabble Challenge. I loved the use of "smudged" in the ending.

It’s a 100-word challenge based on a given prompt. Thanks for popping in.

I love this!  I admire anyone who can write great poetry like this because I am a horrific poet.  Half the time I don't even understand most poetry (I did understand yours). LOL

    • mish on November 26, 2011 at 10:56 pm

Thanks Lisa, though the post is not poetry but a 100-word flash fiction piece. 🙂 Did it sound like poetry?

You're able to write a complete story arc in so few words. That's good writing.

Now I need to build on this… extend this to writing a story arc for a longer piece… 🙂

Writing with such a small word limit is not easy, but you did a brilliant job here!  Very touching piece of writing:)

Thanks Valerie… glad you were moved by the piece. 🙂

Fantastic imagry as usual, M! Inspiring piece!
Sorry 'bout the delay. I read this last week but didn't have chance to comment. I've fallen behind on my drabbles, too…have to do Roar.

Very vividly described! I love the imagery of your words 🙂

      Thanks for swinging by, Nutschell!

I thought it sounded kind of like poetry with the imagery and the staccato sentences and fragments.  It took reading between lines to get what was being said, but it was interestingly said and I agree with what you've said about getting back on one's feet and on the recovery road.
