Five Sentence Fiction #6 – MEDICINE

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week the hostess will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just use it for direction.

She opted for the age-old remedy.

Emptying the contents into a glass, she lapsed into a semi absent-minded contemplation, swirled the liquid round and round, watched the powder dissolve…

It was a curative and restorative combination alright, designed to cure the nagging problem and restore sanity.

This was the panacea for all her ills.

A soft click of the door, and the spine-chilling drawl that haunted her every waking and sleeping moment, had the power to reduce her to a mass of quivering jelly, was delivered on cue: "Fix me a drink, would you darling, and make yourself comfortable…"

  24. Brian on June 20, 2012 at 11:32 am

Great pacing and tone, with a perfect delivery of those last two paragraphs. Weirdly enough, it reminded me of an episode of Perry Mason I watched this weekend where a woman wants to poison her overbearing, judgmental uncle (I know — who references Perry Mason?). Anyway, great job!

  25. michelle on June 20, 2012 at 1:14 pm

Thanks Brian. I promise you that Perry Mason (who is he?) didn't enter my mind when I wrote the piece. LOL.

  26. Robyn Campbell on June 27, 2012 at 7:32 pm
