Five Sentence Fiction #21 – VISION
I stared you in the face – bold and defiant, as usual.
We eyeballed each other, the familiar all-knowing smirk that I had come to recognise was absent from your face and somehow, instinctively, I knew, it was time to settle an old score.
The self-proclaimed vow, that I would not bow out gracefully come the pivotal moment; that I'd go kicking, screaming, thrashing, fighting… seemed irrelevant now…
And as you reached out your hand to escort me onto the conveyor belt of eternity, like you had done with millions before me, the moment of inevitability was a blinding revelation…
I had cheated you thrice, but this time, there was no turning back!
Can't cheat death this time.
Very good, Michelle! (And hopefully I figured it out.)
