Human Rights Day…
Today, the 21st March, is Human Rights Day in South Africa. These are some thought-provoking quotes that I want to share with the readers…
"We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colours… but they all have to learn to live in the same box." – Author Unknown.
"I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do." – Edward Everett.
"If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain. If I can ease one life the aching, or cool one pain, or help one fainting robin unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain." – Emily Dickinson.
"Hope is power." – Amnesty International.
"All men are born free, but everywhere they are in chains." – Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
"In Africa there is a concept known as ubuntu – the profound sense that we are human only through the humanity of others; that if we are to accomplish anything in this world, it will in equal measure be due to the work and achievement of others." – Nelson Mandela.
Dickinson's quote is powerful, but I really like Mandela's.
I would have to agree with you… 🙂
I fell in love with S.Africa years ago and if I had the chance to go back, I would in a heart beat. Love all these quotes btw, words to live by.
Stop by my blog when you get the chance, I've passed along some blog love your way with an award. elisefallson.blogspot.com .
Thanks Elise! So you HAVE visited my beautiful country… 🙂 When you pass through again, please let me know!
Thanks for the award. I'll pop by later (when I have more time) and check it out!
Spent 3 amazing weeks backpacking and driving along the Garden route. Started at Cape Town and walked up Table Mountain, went all the way south to Cape Agulhas, watched right wales along the coastline in hermanus, spent a few days in Tsitsikamma, Mossel Bay, Knysna, rode an ostrich in Oudtshoorn, met some amazing people, ate amazing food…the list is long, but in short, I really want to go back and bring my kids. When I do, I'll hit you up! (:
Some fantastic quotes there. The Edward Everett one is a fantastic response to the 'I'm only one person, what can I do?' way of thinking.
Yes, it re-inforces the fact that every individual effort counts… all the little bits add up in the long run… 🙂
Those are excellent quotes!
They are definitely "food for thought"… 🙂
Btw, I dropped you a mail, with regards to your query about my new blog host…
Thanks for the quotes and thanks for the comment on my shiny new blog. I really appreciate it.
Glad to lend moral support Greg… you'll find that the online writing community is awesome! 🙂
