i-Spy Picspiration #2

Today is officially Spring Day my end of the globe and the weather seems to be heating up. It's almost time to pack away the "claustrophobic footgear", and give the closed-up feet some breathing space. I've been checking through all my sandals to see what repairs need to be done – any worn out soles or straps that need to be fixed.

My "roving camera" needs some practise, so here are three pairs of sandals (the picture's not very clear, maybe because I took it in the glare of the afternoon sun). They have locally crafted trimmings/ details. The bronze and purple pairs would only set you back about six dollars (if I convert), but the red pair is a little more costly.

Here's a snippet taken from a wonderful and thought-provoking article entitled: Thirteen Ways Of Looking At Shoes by Victoria Ceretto-Slotto. If you wish to read the entire article, go here. I guarantee that you will look at shoes through a fresh set of eyes after reading it.

                                                           i
                                  shoes carry the world’s burdens.
                                  in our time
few decisions that affect us all
                                  are made by barefoot people.

                                                          ii
                                  some people are like shoes.
                                  you put them on
                                  they fit
                                 you smile.

                                                          iii
                                 other people, like shoes,
                                 can press you
                                 hurt you
                                 make you whimper.

                                                  *          *          *          *          *

And here are a few "shoe" quotes I'd like to share.

"I cried because I had no shoes, then I met a man who had no feet."

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go." Dr. Seuss (gotta love Dr. Seuss….)

"Never judge a person until you've walked a mile in their shoes." (I've seen many variations on this one…)

Are you a "shoe" person? What's important to you? Practicality? Fashion? Comfort? Or do you like to go barefoot from time to time… connect with Mother Earth…

Enjoy your journey into spring and summer as we enter autumn . . . mind you, it's been pretty atumnal quite a lot of the time.

I love you poem – so true and so succinct:-)

Thanks Jab! It must be wonderful your side of the globe… especially the post-Olympic atmosphere… 🙂

You have beautiful sandals! I just go with whatever I can afford, but I should start looking at what my shoes look like. My mom is starting to bug me about why I am still single. Enjoy the first day of spring.

    • michelle on September 4, 2012 at 8:11 am

Thank you Murees! There's nothing wrong with being single. Actually I know lots of ladies who have made a conscious choice to remain single, and they lead full and productive lives… 🙂

Dr. Seuss was a wise man.
Shoes – I own four pair – dress shoes, nice sneakers, gym sneakers, and lawn mowing sneakers.
Yeah, not much of a shoe guy.

    • michelle on September 4, 2012 at 8:14 am

Yes, Dr. Seuss is definitely one-of-a-kind! Four pairs of shoes sounds practical – you know EXACTLY what to wear each time you get dressed. No guesswork. Quite smart.

I'm not much of a shoe person. Most of my shoes are flats and sneakers for comfort.
I love that poem. People indeed can be like shoes.

    • michelle on September 4, 2012 at 8:17 am

I also have lots of flat shoes. My one or two heeled pairs are wedges – it's more comfortable! The poem is really thought-provoking!

    Hey, Michelle,
Cool quotes. Love the sandals with the bronze details. I'm now old enough to do what I like, which is mostly wear sandals and slippers. Shoes contrain me too much. Would you believe it if I told you that I don't own a pair that can be worn? Haven't bought any in years. I like to have my feet breathe.

    • michelle on September 4, 2012 at 8:20 am

So you've come-of-age in the "shoe department'?  LOL. Ah, you sound like a lady who loves to feel Mother earth beneath her feet…  au naturelle! It's a healthy option for the feet! 🙂

  7. Jemi Fraser on September 1, 2012 at 5:31 pm

I love that poem – so true.
I have allkinds of foot issues – so I much prefer to go barefoot when possible. If not, I can pretty much only wear running shoes. Wish I could wear sandals!

    • michelle on September 4, 2012 at 8:23 am

Thanks Jemi. Barefoot is great, especially my side of the globe where we experience super-hot and humid conditions most of the time…  Sounds like you're a sneakers kinda person. I suppose they're the most comfortable type of footgear.

  8. Carol Kilgore on September 1, 2012 at 7:46 pm

I'm definitely a shoe person, yet I go barefoot whenever possible – like now 🙂 I love these, and I love the price! I'm so jealous you're having spring. We're nearing the end of summer, but no cool-down in sight yet for San Antonio.

    • michelle on September 4, 2012 at 8:27 am

Yes, when you convert to dollars,  then the price is wonderful! Well, no cool-down yet should come as no surprise, because the weather patterns are very erratic! It's a global phenomenon… 🙂

  9. Sherry Ellis on September 1, 2012 at 8:23 pm

I like your shoes!  Here in Ohio, we're putting away our sandals and getting out the fall footwear.
    Nice shoe quotes, too!

    • michelle on September 4, 2012 at 8:30 am

Thanks Sherry! You're packing the sandals away and I'm getting them ready for the Spring/Summer months… 🙂 Actually, we wear sandals into the Autumn season too, since the humidity doesn't disappear for a long time…

  10. Talli Roland on September 2, 2012 at 9:29 am

And yesterday, I just started wearing my boots! Autumn has kicked in in London.

Love the 13 ways of looking at shoes!

    • michelle on September 4, 2012 at 8:34 am

Welcome to my place, Talli.  Autumn in London sounds fabulous! Boots  – is it that cool already? Our Autumn weather is warm-to-hot… you can still go to the beach and swim…

  11. Pat Hatt on September 2, 2012 at 3:07 pm

Never thought that way about shoes, but the verse is correct. All I know is I'll never buy crappy ones again, cheap hurt the feet  haha

    • michelle on September 4, 2012 at 8:36 am

Thanks Patt. Quite often, cheap shoes DO hurt the feet! But there are the exceptions to this rule… if you're lucky enough to get the "quality" bargains…

  12. Elise Fallson on September 3, 2012 at 8:44 am

Ohhh, love your sandals, especially the bronze pair! As you may have already guessed, I'm a shoe person, I just don't have the budget to go with my love of footwear.
Enjoy the first warm rays on your end of the world. Things over here are starting to cool down, which is frustrating seeing how we didn't have a very hot summer.
And love Dr. Seuss, he's the best. (:

    • michelle on September 4, 2012 at 8:39 am

I gathered that you're a shoe person… loved your beige pumps (although they're way too high for me…). You need to bring your money and shop for shoes my side of the world. You will return home with a stack of shoes! 🙂

  13. Emily R. King on September 3, 2012 at 4:14 pm

Loving the excerpt. I adore shoes, especially boots. I'm ready for boot season! And yes, they all tell a tale, don't they? Maybe that's why I like them so much. 🙂

    • michelle on September 4, 2012 at 8:43 am

Thanks Emily! I only have one or two pairs of boots. It would be a waste to have more because our weather is more hot than cold, especially where I am, on the east coast which enjoys a hot and humid sub-tropical climate. Although you can never tell what the weather will be like from one month to the next, with the erratic weather patterns we've experienced in the past months… 🙂 Enjoy your boots!

  14. Sabrina A. Fish on September 3, 2012 at 11:49 pm

Hi Michelle! I love shoes too! I just bought the cutest pair of colorful 3 inch high wedge heels! They make me smile and twirl around when I put them on.
    New follower!

    • michelle on September 4, 2012 at 8:45 am

Welcome to my place, Sabrina! The wedges sound lovely! They're comfortable too… enjoy! 🙂

Love your shoe quotes. Fun to read about your spring as our fall is starting. Happy New Season!

Thanks Mary! Happy New Season to you too!

  18. The Golden Eagle on September 4, 2012 at 9:53 pm

I love the snippet and quotes!

Practicality and comfort are the biggest things for me. I like shoes I can walk/run in, but also wear when I'm just going out on errands or something.

    • michelle on September 4, 2012 at 10:52 pm

I think that comfort should be top priority, as it also impacts on your health in the long run… after all the feet help to support the entire body and yet lots of people neglect their feet. Thanks G.E.
