The Insecure Writer’s Support Group ~ No#40

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer – aim for a dozen new people each time.

The co-hosts for this month are:  Suzanne Furness, Tonja Drecker, Toi Thomas, Rachna Chhabria, Fundy Blue, and Donna Hole!Don’t forget to visit them and thank them for co-hosting!

Our Twitter hashtag is #IWSG

It’s the eve of the A to Z Challenge. Whether you are participating or not, here’s a fun quote to kickstart the new month. It’s big and bold and in-your-face… makes you want to create… it’s filled with oooooomph!

Creativity does not live in a cave inside your head.

That sh—- has gotta come out and play. It has to splash in rain puddles. It has to climb trees. It has to build a ground-to-air star-exploding laser out of Duplo blocks and a repurposed iPhone.

You need to give yourself the time every day to do the thing that you want to do.

Our days and nights get crowded as life bloats and swells to fill the spaces, so you have to — have to — push all that aside with a barbaric yawp and give yourself the time to be creative. This is both in the day-to-day and in the “scope of your entire life” sense — in the day to day, you need time with your creativity.

And in the long term, your creativity needs that time to get bigger, get weirder, get more awesome.

Plants need water.

Alpacas need food.

Creativity needs time.

We’re all dying.

F— stagnation.

High-five creation.

See you in a few hours for the start of the A to Z challenge!

Yes, someone please feed the alpacas!
Ah, the days of building space ships from Legos…
I’m going to go jam some creativity on my guitar.

  2. Southpaw HR Sinclair on March 31, 2015 at 11:38 pm

I like this line “life bloats and swells to fill the spaces”. That Chuck, he tells it like it is.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 1, 2015 at 12:51 pm

      He sure does… no holds-barred and in-your-face! 😀

  3. Patricia Lynne on April 1, 2015 at 3:02 am

Great quote. I am so ready for the challenge. Already, I’ve seen a few posts pop up.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 1, 2015 at 12:53 pm

I’m more-or-less ready. There’s always a last minute tweak here and a tweak there… know what I mean?
      I’ll pop by your place shortly… 🙂

  4. Hilary on April 1, 2015 at 8:12 am

Hi Michelle – I certainly need space in my brain … ie a good walk, a long car journey … see you for the A-Z .. cheers Hilary

    • Michelle Wallace on April 1, 2015 at 12:54 pm

I think that from time to time, we all need to clear the ‘cobwebs’ from our brains… make some space for creativity…
      Thanks Hilary.
I’ll pop by your place shortly! 🙂

To be honest? I have NO idea what movie you’re talking about….. 🙁
I’m useless when it comes to movies…. but I’ll google it later… 🙂

  6. Diane Burton on April 1, 2015 at 1:26 pm

Love what you said about giving yourself time to do what you want. You have to take it, carve it out because you’ll never *find* the time.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 1, 2015 at 3:45 pm

People always talk about never having time for this or that.
The thing is – we have to *MAKE* the time…. easier said than done…

Which is why I Play off the Page, and teach kids, who are all about playing and imagination. Plus, they don’t understand how grown-ups can become crystalized. Don’t let it happen to you!

I so agree creativity needs to come out and play, and there are no limits to how that would work. Each one of use probably has their own method. 🙂

It’s actually an interesting thought – how different we all are with regards to creativity techniques/methods… possibilities are endless… a topic I’d love to research one day… 🙂

  9. Susan Gourley on April 1, 2015 at 2:28 pm

Yes, I need to take out my creativity and play a little. I have a first draft that I’ve let sit for a while. Two more days and I’m going to tackle it.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 1, 2015 at 3:48 pm

High-5 to tackling that first draft, Susan!
      Have fun! 😀

For a bit, I thought you wrote the poem. It sounded so like you. But then, you’re not known for expletives.

    Hugs and chocolate!

    • Michelle Wallace on April 1, 2015 at 9:47 pm

      Sounded like me? I’m flattered.
You’ve put me in the same category as Chuck Wendig who is simply awesome 🙂
      Thank you!
