The Insecure Writer’s Support Group ~ No#75

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer – aim for a dozen new people each time.

The awesome co-hosts for the March posting of the IWSG are: e Mary Aalgaard, Bish Denham, Jennifer Hawes, Diane Burton, and Gwen Gardner!

Don’t forget to visit them and thank them for co-hosting!

Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.
Remember, the question is optional!

MARCH 05th QUESTION: How do you celebrate when you achieve a writing goal/finish a story?

I’m pass the halfway point of my #100words100days challenge goal! Today is day 66 – only 34 days left… but it feels like forever!!

January: I pledged 200 new words a day for January. I wrote every day in January and surpassed my goal of writing 6,000 new words, with a total of 7310 words!

February: I pledged 200 new words a day for February. I wrote every day in February and surpassed my goal of writing 6,000 new words, with a total of 6286 words!

March: I pledged 100 new words a day for this month and this month’s goal is 3100 words.

I’m feeling a bit tired at this point. There are days when I think it’s going to be an uphill battle, but once I read the previous days entry and the new prompt for the day, let the creative juices take over and get down to business, then the words come.
There have been those days when I felt dog-tired and the words straggled along… other times it’s been a smoother process.
From the 31st January till today, the 07th March, I’ve written 14 616 new words. Not too bad for a person who at one stage, in the not-so-distant past, struggled to write beyond 100 words… what do you think?
I’m not sure how I’ll celebrate when I reach day 100… any ideas?

Happy IWSG Day! I’ll be visiting blogs during the course of the week and over the week-end. Then back to my writing balloon!

    Congratulations!
That’s wonderful. I wish you even more success. You deserve to celebrate! As to how? Do whatever makes you the happiest!

Congrats on your writing streak. I also struggle to make writing a priority. There are too many excuses lying around the house. This challenge sounds like a great idea. Maybe I’ll give it try. Thanks for sharing

You doubled your daily goal and look what happened? Awesome! Keep it up, Michelle.

  4. Nicki Elson on March 7, 2018 at 2:48 pm

Congrats on surpassing your goals! That’s awesome. I like your method of rereading the previous day’s entry to rev up your new day of writing – it’s much more welcoming than starting out by staring at a blank page.

Excellent word counts. Good for you!

  6. Tyrean A Martinson on March 7, 2018 at 3:22 pm

Way to go for and reach your goals! I suggest dancing, singing, shouting from the rooftops, or … just treating yourself to something you love – a movie, a book, or …?

  7. Crystal Collier on March 7, 2018 at 4:17 pm

Ice cream or cheese. Yup. I sometimes think writing is an endurance game, so keep on building those writerly muscles! Our brains do what we demand of them consistently. Way to get in a work count! Keep at it. You’ve totally got this.

  8. Krystal Jane on March 7, 2018 at 4:30 pm

You definitely have to do something fun when you reach day 100! And maybe a cupcake, too. That’s awesome! Already it’s awesome. Congratulations on sticking with it so far! You’re on the home stretch now. 🙂

  9. Mina B. on March 7, 2018 at 5:08 pm

Congrats, Michelle! I am so excited that you are doing this challenge. It’s inspiring. Keep it up. 🙂
I don’t have any ideas for celebrating because I rarely do. I think maybe I’ll try a mani/pedi?

  10. Ellen @ The Cynical Sailor on March 7, 2018 at 5:12 pm

That is a lot of words! It’s amazing how just a 100 words a day really adds up. Congrats on your progress. We’re all cheering you on to day 100.

  11. Hilary on March 7, 2018 at 5:45 pm

Hi Michelle – congratulations on the writing, as too the motivation to keep on … finish the 100 days and then take a day or two off … and enjoy sometime outside in the bush – cheers Hilary

  12. Patricia Lynne on March 7, 2018 at 5:47 pm

That’s a lot of words! Congrats on that. This year, I’m attempting to write a drabble a day. It got derailed when my brother passed, but I’ve managed all but 6 days so far.

  13. Ryan Carty on March 7, 2018 at 6:12 pm

Well done! You should feel accomplished because that’s some hard work. I wish you the best in completing the challenge. When you do, I’ll celebrate along with you.

  14. Carol Kilgore on March 7, 2018 at 6:21 pm

Yay!!! You’re doing great! Celebrate by doing something totally different and really treat yourself. You’re worth it.

  15. Cherie Reich on March 7, 2018 at 7:06 pm

Congrats for keeping it up! And you should celebrate when you reach 100 days. Watch a movie/TV show you’ve been wanting to see. Read a book. Or eat some dessert. 🙂

  16. Cheryl Sterling on March 7, 2018 at 7:14 pm

Perseverance wins the race. Feel proud that you stuck with it, improved your daily word count and am making strides to achieve your goals!

  17. Tonja Drecker on March 7, 2018 at 8:20 pm

Congratulations on keeping the pace! It’s a long run, but you’re almost there.

  18. Cathrina on March 7, 2018 at 8:31 pm

I love this goal plan. I may have to borrow it!!! I’m starting something new since this IWSG question came about, I’m celebrating with a hot fudge sundae, my fave. You pick a fave to celebrate too!

  19. Liesbet on March 7, 2018 at 8:41 pm

14 616 new words in a little over two months is incredible, Michelle. It seems like you already have reason to celebrate! What are you doing with these words? A WIP, a new project?

After the 100 days, you get to celebrate big time, since you exceeded the challenge’s intentions. Mmmm… I think you should celebrate by posting an excerpt on your blog of the work, and by buying a new book, one you never thought you’d own or purchase. Then, you are allowed one full day to start reading it. 🙂

  20. Kim on March 7, 2018 at 8:52 pm

Congratulations on meeting your goals! I think perhaps a hundred treats for meeting 100 words per day. Perhaps gummy bears, or skittles, or a 100 pieces of chocolate kisses spread out over the next month of even more words. Yum! Keep it up and enjoy whatever you choose to celebrate.

  21. Shannon Lawrence on March 7, 2018 at 11:05 pm

You’re doing fantastic! With book release stuff, I haven’t written a word since January, so I’m looking forward to getting back to writing.

  22. Yvonne V on March 8, 2018 at 12:33 am

    Celebrate with chocolate. 🙂

  23. L. Diane Wolfe on March 8, 2018 at 1:29 am

Michelle, that’s great! You’re going to hit your goal.

  24. Damyanti on March 8, 2018 at 1:45 am

This is fantastic progress, Michelle– you’re an inspiration to many.

In your place, I’d celebrate with some excellent tea/coffee/ wine/ and cheese/ cake, curling with a book, and/or person lol.

Once I’ve written a bunch, all I want to do is sleep, usually.

  25. ChemistKen on March 8, 2018 at 3:20 am

Do whatever you’ve been giving up in order to hit your word target every day. Of course, taking a nap can also be a great reward, too. 🙂

  26. Natalie Aguirre on March 8, 2018 at 1:06 pm

Sounds like you have found a plan that is manageable. I’m impressed with your commitment to writing every day. So awesome that you are keep your goal.

  27. Diane Burton on March 9, 2018 at 1:05 am

You know the axiom slow but steady wins the race. While you’re not trying to win any races, you are steadily writing, you are meeting your goals and then some. Congratulations! Celebrate each month you’ve met your goal. And keep it up. Yay, you!

  28. Loni Townsend on March 9, 2018 at 6:13 pm

Woot woot! That is awesome! Definitely worth celebrating.

  29. Leslie S Rose on March 10, 2018 at 8:15 pm

Ice cream – it’s always about the ice cream. Congrats on your goals.

  30. Toi Thomas on March 11, 2018 at 11:55 pm

Congratulations on reaching your writing goals; very impressive. Whether you keep at this pace or not, just keep writing. You’re awesome! I saw that someone celebrates by reading a new book. Perhaps after all this writing, you can take a break to read or binge watch a TV show.

  31. Jemi Fraser on March 14, 2018 at 3:22 pm

You’re doing a fabulous job with this challenge!!! When (IF???) life slows down a bit I might have to take this one on too!

  32. joylene on March 16, 2018 at 5:20 pm

You are a huge inspiration, Michelle. It’s been wonderful following you on blogger.
