The Insecure Writer’s Support Group ~ No#81

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer – aim for a dozen new people each time.

The awesome co-hosts for the September posting of the IWSG are: Toi Thomas, T. Powell Coltrin, M.J. Fifield, and Tara Tyler!

Don’t forget to visit them and thank them for co-hosting!

Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.

I’m posting this from my i-Pad so please overlook any mistakes/bad formatting! My PC is on the blink and the tower is still with my tech guy who says it’s a Windows problem. That’s the bad news. The good news is that this forced me to post from my i-Pad (which I’ve been avoiding… I NEVER write posts on the i-Pad) He promised to get the tower back to me by Monday past. An unexpected business emergency resulted in him having to drop all other work and tend to that immediate problem… leaving me in the lurch! Fortunately, I had set up part of this post a while back, so it’s not from scratch.

In other news, my story won runner up in the recent WEP-IWSG Flash Fiction Challenge! Thank you to all who visited my blog, read the story and left wonderful comments. By the time I wanted to reply to comments on my post, Windows had already packed up.

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.
Remember, the question is optional!

SEPTEMBER 05th QUESTION: What publishing path are you considering/did you take, and why?

I’m really keen on learning how to self-publish so at some stage I’ll definitely go that route. However, I’m not going to rule out the option of submitting work to a smaller press. The publishing landscape is filled with many opportunities and the hybrid author seems to be the new norm, so why not?

HAPPY IWSG DAY! I’ll be visiting blogs over the next few days and into the weekend!

Do you post from your PC or tablet? Which do you prefer?

Hope your tower returns soon. You did good posting from your iPad. I’ve never attempted it.

  2. Christine Rains on September 5, 2018 at 3:46 pm

I definitely post on my PC. I don’t even like to write texts on my phone because the screen is too little. Congrats on your story. That is awesome!

  3. Roland Yeomans on September 5, 2018 at 3:59 pm

You could write about in your blog when it comes back repaired and title it: The Dark Tower! Oh, wait, that title’s already been taken. My fingers are not meant to type on an Ipad! Seriously, i hope your tower is quickly and inexpensively repaired. And along with Christine, congrats on your story. My own stories are beginning to feel like an ugly girl at the Prom! 🙂

Hope you get your tower back soon! Congrats on your story. Hope you never have to write one of those on your iPad.

  5. Carol Kilgore on September 5, 2018 at 5:46 pm

Hope your PC is returned soon and operates as good as new. I have an iPad, too, but I always post from my PC. Much easier.

I’d be having a meltdown without my computer.

There are a lot of options Michelle. Doing well with your WEP entry shows you have the writing chops.

The formatting looks good to me and a big (hug) congrats on WEP. Well done.

    Happy IWSG Day!
Congrats again on your WEP award! Well deserved.
Yes. I think the hybrid author is quickly becoming the new norm.
I too avoid posting from other devices. I have it set up just in case I need to, but I hope I never need to.

Lame Microsoft breaking everyone’s computers with the automatic updates… I lose more productivity that way… But anyhow, WAY TO GO! I hope you wear you virtual badge with pride. It was well deserved.

And in other news, have some cheese, eh?

Sorry you have been having computer issues. Congratulations on your story.

  11. KJ Scrim on September 6, 2018 at 3:13 am

Computer woes are the worst. I have had to post from my Kindle which is just as bad as an iPad. I feel your pain. Hopefully you will get your computer back soon. I like your plan–HYBRID. I’ll be considering it when I’m ready to roll it out.

    Hi, Michelle!

CONGRATS on you win at the WEP…. It’s a wonderful site to show you current works and to keep your writing sharp. I am SOOOOOO proud of you. You have come such a LONG LONG way!

Sorry about you PC tower. That is why I have an APPLE computer, so I don’t have to deal with those horrible updates from Microsoft…

    Hope all is well!

  13. Shannon Lawrence on September 6, 2018 at 7:28 am

Being a hybrid definitely seems to be gaining popularity. I’m all for it! I hope you get your computer back quickly.

  14. Michelle on September 6, 2018 at 1:39 pm

Congratulations on the story win! I’m planning to join the next WEP :).

So sorry to hear that your computer troubles are persisting. Mine has crashed, as well, and I’m surviving on a borrowed comp!

Hope you can be back online and on your laptop soon.

  15. M.J. Fifield on September 6, 2018 at 5:41 pm

I’ve never attempted to post from my iPad, or even writing a post with it. I just really want that bigger monitor/keyboard when I write anything.

Hope you get your PC back in working order soon. I would hate to be without mine for too long.

Congrats on your flash fiction win!

Hi Michelle – yes again congratulations on being the WEP runner up … always a great pat on the back from the judges … so pleased for you. I need to be pushed in your direction re the ipad – but am glad I have a machine that works and I can sit at a desk to write. So sincerely hope yours returns asap. At least we have choices now re publishing … and it’s always good to learn – cheers Hilary

Doh! That stinks about your computer. I hope it gets fixed quickly. And grats on getting runner up! That’s great!

  18. Liza on September 7, 2018 at 10:43 am

Success! You posted with your I-pad. I wouldn’t dare! I agree, I think hybrid authors are seeing a lot of success. Congratulations on your story!

  19. Patricia Lynne aka Patricia Josephine on September 7, 2018 at 3:56 pm

    Bummer about your tower.

I like self publishing. It’s hard, but I like the control it affords me.

  20. Cherie Reich on September 7, 2018 at 8:45 pm

Congrats on your story winning runner-up! I hope you get your tower back soon.

  21. Natalie Aguirre on September 8, 2018 at 1:35 pm

Congrats on winning! That’s awesome. And you’re right about there being so many paths to publication for writers these days.

  22. Liesbet on September 8, 2018 at 8:17 pm

Congrats on being the runner up for the WEP! There’s no question I prefer writing blogs and posting them from my computer. I don’t even know how people write, add photos and do all that stuff on an iPad. So, kudos to you for pulling that off! 🙂

  23. Melissa Maygrove on September 26, 2018 at 5:03 pm

I love self-publishing. I won’t say never, but I can’t see myself doing it any other way.

  24. Lisa on October 4, 2018 at 2:31 pm

I don’t have an iPad, but I’ve commented on posts from my iPhone, like now! I’d love an iPad though… maybe one day. Glad you’re still able to post with all your technical difficulties! Thanks for dropping by my blog!
