Yes, but only five sentences of a fifty-five chapter novel? You'll produce far more in the same amount of time!

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 3:37 pm

You know just what to say, to cheer me up.Thank you.

  2. Shelly on September 4, 2012 at 11:39 pm

    That was cute,Michelle.

    Hugs and chocolate,
    Shelly

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 3:38 pm

Thanks Shelly. Your support spurs me on… keeps me going… 🙂

  3. Elise Fallson on September 5, 2012 at 8:22 am

Hahah. Cute. It can be hard not to make comparisons. I try not to but we are only human. Your story will come when you're ready. Just keep writing!! (:

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 3:39 pm

Elise, I hope and pray that you are right! 🙂 It seems that everybody is writing a novel—– except me. 🙁

  4. Pat Hatt on September 5, 2012 at 12:09 pm

hahaha well you'll get there eventually at least.

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 3:39 pm

      Thanks Dr.Seuss! I appreciate it.

  5. Emily R. King on September 5, 2012 at 3:13 pm

So true. It seems like every time I accomplish something in my writing, another writer has done 50% more than me in the same time.
Oh well. Everyone has their own pace, right?

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 3:40 pm

Yes, and you can only work at your own pace… we are all different!

  6. Rachna Chhabria on September 5, 2012 at 4:28 pm

That was really cute, Michelle 🙂

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 3:41 pm

      Thanks Rachna! 🙂

  7. Tonja on September 5, 2012 at 4:37 pm

Actually one 5-sentence piece a day sounds fun. 🙂

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 3:43 pm

It would be fun writing it on a daily basis, as long as each piece forms part of a larger body of work – not individual 5 sentence stories, which is what I normally tackle. 🙂

  8. mary aalgaard on September 5, 2012 at 4:41 pm

Step by step, word by word, your story grows.

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 3:45 pm

Thank you Mary! The perfect way of approaching it.

  9. murees on September 5, 2012 at 5:20 pm

This is cool! You are so creative.

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 3:47 pm

You really think so? It's just dabbling with some drawings…  actually very amateurish. (I wish I could draw… )

  10. Julie on September 5, 2012 at 6:23 pm

It's like the expression " quality over quantity."  You really pack those five sentences with lots of punch. I'd rather read a short and interesting story over a long and drawn out one. Embrace your creativity!  I always enjoy coming here Michelle!       Julie

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 3:49 pm

You have made me feel much better! At least somebody enjoys my short stuff! Thanks Julie!

  11. L. Diane Wolfe on September 5, 2012 at 9:08 pm

LOL! We all feel like that some days.

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 4:07 pm

Wow! Unbelievable. This comment coming from a super-talented lady who has written a 5-series book of stories that overlap… Thank you L.Diane.

  12. Jemi Fraser on September 5, 2012 at 9:54 pm

Yup – I've had that feeling too! Love the comic 🙂

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 4:10 pm

Thanks Jemi! 🙂 The comic is my feeble attempt at drawing… (not very good, I know…)

  13. Melissa Maygrove on September 5, 2012 at 10:12 pm

Too funny. 😀 Hang in there, Milchelle. Thanks for visiting my blog. 🙂

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 4:11 pm

I'm hanging in there – quitting is NOT an option. 🙂 Thanks for the return visit.

  14. Medeia Sharif on September 6, 2012 at 3:38 am

    I loved this cartoon. 🙂

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 4:13 pm

Thank you Medeia. 🙂 I've always wanted to learn to draw/sketch/paint… just the basics…

  15. Lexa Cain on September 6, 2012 at 6:27 am

Never judge your progress against others'. (Unless of course they aren't as productive as you, and then you can secretly smile, feeling all smug and superior! lol)

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 4:15 pm

Wise words, Lexa. I think part of my problem is trying to rush this writing process instead of letting it evolve naturally…

  16. Nick Wilford on September 6, 2012 at 6:57 am

5 sentence fiction is HARD! Not to be sniffed at. If you wrote one every day for a year, that would be an amazing book. 🙂

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 4:20 pm

A great perspective, Nick! I wonder if my 5 sentence fiction modus operandi could be transferred to a full length piece of work?

  17. Tyrean on September 6, 2012 at 12:40 pm

Love that! How many times have I calculated just how long it will take me to finish? Countless. How often have I been right? Never. I think sometimes when I daydream about how "quickly" I could finish my novel, I am really just procrastinating.

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 4:23 pm

Calculating = Procrastinating… so true! As one blogger commented – step by step, word by word, the story will grow. That's the reality of it.

  18. PK Hrezo on September 6, 2012 at 1:11 pm

55 chapters is a lot, but then we are talkin' sci-fi. lol

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 4:26 pm

LOL. I think I simply pulled the number 55 out of thin air, in a moment of despair, to coincide with the 5 from Five Sentence Fiction… Thanks PK.

  19. Kimberly Gabriel on September 6, 2012 at 1:37 pm

Ha! I love this!! I also love the name of your blog 😉

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 4:33 pm

Thank you and welcome to my place, Kimberley! "The Art Of Infiltration" – very appealing name too… loaded with mystery/suspense… like literary espionage!

  20. Mina B. on September 6, 2012 at 2:20 pm

Very cute.  🙂 And I love your 5 sentences!

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 4:34 pm

Thank you Mina! I know you are one of the people who pops in to read them…

  21. Jen on September 6, 2012 at 3:22 pm

I loved this! Heck, I'd be proud of myself writing five sentences a day!!
And to think, a whole book with ONLY 55 chapters. I need to do some serious editing 😉
    Cheers!
    Jen

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 4:35 pm

Ha! Good luck with the editing, Jen! 🙂

  22. jabblog uk. on September 6, 2012 at 5:33 pm

Writing something beleivable and eye- catching in five sentences is much harder than it sounds. It's also good practice for when you're editing your novel – as you certainly will be, one day:-)

    • michelle on September 6, 2012 at 5:56 pm

That is the sweetest and most inspiring comment I've come across for the day! Thank you J! 🙂

  23. C. Lee McKenzie on September 6, 2012 at 11:26 pm

Well, better to have 5 good sentences than 10,000 rotten pages. That's my 2 cents!

Great to meet you here at the IWG.

    • michelle on September 7, 2012 at 12:43 pm

Thanks C.Lee – I really appreciate your  "2 cents" contribution…  every little bit counts! 🙂

  24. J.L. Campbell on September 6, 2012 at 11:31 pm

    Hey, Michelle,
There will always be people who make us feel inadequate, even if they're not showoff. The smart thing is to always be working toward our own goals, no matter how small.

    • michelle on September 7, 2012 at 1:06 pm

Joy, you are SO right! Every person has a different set of goals… a different vision… which is important to that particular individual. Thanks for the reminder.

  25. Sherry Ellis on September 6, 2012 at 11:45 pm

Haha!  I should try the five sentences a day and see how it works.

    • michelle on September 7, 2012 at 1:08 pm

Sherry, I've been thinking more and more along those lines… 5 sentences a day, or every second day, will add up in the long run… 🙂

  26. Susan Gourley on September 7, 2012 at 12:38 am

    I needed that little laugh.

    • michelle on September 7, 2012 at 1:08 pm

      Thank you Susan!

  27. Ciara Knight on September 7, 2012 at 12:26 pm

That was SOO cute!! Thanks for the smile. 55 chapters. Wow.

    • michelle on September 7, 2012 at 1:10 pm

The mention of 55 chapters was just pulled out of thin air to match the number 5 in the Five Sentence Fiction… LOL. The 55 part is not to be taken too seriously… 🙂 It's just a moment of despair…

  28. Charmaine Clancy on September 7, 2012 at 12:29 pm

It always seems like there's someone faster, better or just more gifted than ourself, great comic  🙂

    • michelle on September 7, 2012 at 1:12 pm

I suppose I can only be the best that I can be…  in life there will ALWAYS be someone faster… better… etc. Thanks Charmaine!

  29. Cherie Colyer on September 7, 2012 at 1:33 pm

I love this! And the possibilities are endless! Thanks for stopping by my blog.

    • michelle on September 7, 2012 at 1:49 pm

Thank you Cherie! Thumbs up to endless possibilities! 🙂

  30. stephanie on September 7, 2012 at 3:14 pm

This made me laugh.  Love, love, love the comic.  And yes, I know exactly how writer's insecurity feels.  I've recently come to the conclusion that my YA novel-in-progress should actually be a non-YA graphic novel.  No big deal…I just have to learn how to draw.  Ha!

    • michelle on September 8, 2012 at 2:04 pm

I'm glad you had a good laugh! I know my attempts are amateurish… I CANNOT draw! I'm basically hopeless at it! Good luck with the drawing lessons.

  31. Rose on September 7, 2012 at 7:51 pm

Cute comic! When I hear other writers talk of their 100,000+ novel, I wonder if my scrappy little one will be enough. I'm back at revising, so I'll be shaving off about half of said scrappy novel and starting again. Sigh!

    • michelle on September 8, 2012 at 2:06 pm

Thanks Rose. I know what you mean…  I often wonder how long it's taken them to get to 100,000 words. *sigh* Good luck with the revisions!!

  32. Mary on September 7, 2012 at 8:58 pm

That's how started … thinking about how 5 sentences a day eventually adds up.

    • michelle on September 8, 2012 at 2:08 pm

It has to start somewhere, hey? I suppose that everything starts with the germ of an idea…  🙂

  33. Madeleine on September 8, 2012 at 1:25 pm

five sentences a day is probably more than i usually do LOL!

    • michelle on September 8, 2012 at 2:12 pm

I think the main thing is to write SOMETHING every day… no matter how small. Thanks Madeleine.

  34. Rekha on September 8, 2012 at 6:41 pm

You can sketch and I can't even do that. 🙂 see, the grass is always greener on the other side.
But, ourside has the natural, serene charm of a slow production masterpiece. Enjoy your Sunday. 🙂

  35. michelle on September 8, 2012 at 7:22 pm

I love the sound of  "…slow production masterpiece…" 🙂 … and the charming part too…

  36. Kari Marie White on September 10, 2012 at 1:14 am

I fall into the trap of comparing my work (and my production) to other writers all the time. I have to keep reminding myself to take it one day at a time and commit to something I can do. I will get there. So will you. Good luck!
    Kari

  37. michelle on September 10, 2012 at 4:34 am

Thanks for popping in and leaving a comment! 🙂

  38. Catherine Noble on September 27, 2012 at 7:12 pm

Aww, your sketch is adorable, and hilarious! I'm SO the wee guy on the left haha, I am green with envy when someone talks about their super-fast progress, whilst I languish in my pit of slovenly despair!
At least you know your 5 sentences will be tight and powerful. The majority of the 55-chapter writer's words aren't nearly as loved as yours. Oh no… now I feel sorry for the unloved words. 🙁

    • michelle on September 27, 2012 at 8:50 pm

Thank you Catherine. Though I must let you know that this is the beginning and end of my sketching abilities. Your comment made my 5-sentence-stories feel very loved and important… thank you! 🙂
