Lost & Found: Valentine’s Edition
This is a blog hop to celebrate love: lost, or found, or—both? Whether in short fiction, or a brief essay, or poetry, or even via a song, tell us a love story. Whether it’s of loss or a happily-ever-after is up to you—as is the genre. Sci-fi, thriller, comedy, memoir—it’s all good. “Love” is, after all, so much more than just “romance”. On Monday February 1st, it’s all about love, in all its forms. The only limit is your creativity.
The Lost & Found: Valentine’s Edition blog hop was born as a collaboration between Guilie Castillo-Oriard and Arlee Bird, and these two have enlisted fabulous help from co-hosts Denise Covey, Yolanda Renee, Elizabeth Seckman, and the Ninja Captain himself, Alex Cavanaugh.
Lost & Found: Valentine’s Edition
For this challenge, I’ve decided to go with a poem. This is a repost of a poem that I contributed to a blog hop a few years ago. Hope you enjoy it!
LOVE THE SECOND TIME ROUND
His mother said, NEVER! The girl was not right…
Her father put up one heck of a fight!
His brother so eager to burst that love bubble
Her sister so willing to add to the trouble
That was the beginning – how it all started
A decade ago, when the teen couple parted.
But over the years they could never forget
The strength of their feelings when they had first met
She decided to give it a fair second chance.
He planned it complete with song, wine and dance.
The families discovered the secret location
Converged on the love tryst in all their frustration.
Colorful decorations adorned the whole space
Of the smart “star-cross’d lovers” there wasn’t a trace
The message left everyone shocked and aghast:
“Eat, drink and be merry – have a real blast!
By the time you read this we will be long gone-
The battle is over, we have finally won!
Our chance for love a second time round
Is such a rare gift – true love we have found!
We’ve put an end to this decade of madness
And this time YOU get to feel the deep sadness…
Too many years of non-stop intervention
Lies and deceit – such a bone of contention!
We’ve made a decision, we’re cutting all ties
So sick and so fed-up of meddling and lies
Just leave us alone to start a new life,
To be happy at last – as husband and wife!”

LOL. We had that. My in laws were not ready for their son to get married and didn’t give me a chance, but they’ve since learned. Guess that’s the story of the first child to get married, eh?
Sounds like a wobbly start…but soon smoothed out…and as you say, they’ve since learned. First child? Okay, so it makes a little sense. 🙂

Clever poem. SO TRUE…. Why aren’t families happy when their kids fall in love? Age has nothing to do with true feelings.
I think MOST OF US can relate to this at some point in their lives…

OMG! I LOVE your poem! Rhyming poems just plain make me smile – I think it’s a throwback to my childhood and Dr. Seuss. You did a great job with the meter and rhythm and that’s so hard to do. And the theme of meddling families and love winning at the end is wonderful. You’re AWESOME! 🙂
