Love… The Second Time Around Celebration

This challenge is hosted by Joy L Campbell from The Character Depot.

 There is no restriction as it pertains to form or genre. Stories can be fact or fiction. Use your imagination, make them attention-grabbing.

 Somewhere in there, you must tell the reader why the couple broke up and why they feel compelled to get back together. This can be done from any of your characters’ point-of-view.

The word cap is 500.

Indicate on your blog post, by the relevant badge, whether you’re in the fact or fiction category

There will be voting and prizes, so it’ll be a reader’s choice situation, where you get to choose your favourite anecdote/poem/reflection/story. The best piece of fact and fiction—as determined by your vote—will receive a $10.00 Amazon Gift Card, so that’s two prizes.

The last day to submit your piece of fact or fiction is on February 14 (Valentine's Day). (Book release day is February 1, but we’ll be holding the blast off on Thursday, February 14, 2013.) The polls will open on February 15 and we’ll have a few days to read and vote.

So if you want to enter, you still have a few days to sign up for this challenge!

When I first read about this challenge, the first thing that came to mind was… if I entered, my entry would be in the form of a poem… and it weighs in at approximately 240 words. Enjoy!

His mother said, NEVER! The girl was not right…
Her father put up one heck of a fight!
His brother so eager to burst that love bubble
Her sister so willing to add to the trouble
That was the beginning… how it all started
A decade ago, when the teen couple parted.

But over the years they could never forget
The strength of their feelings when they had first met
She decided to give it a fair second chance…
He planned it complete with song, wine and dance.
The families discovered the secret location
Converged on the love tryst in all their frustration.

Colourful decorations adorned the whole space
Of the "star-cross'd lovers" there was no single trace
The message left everyone shocked and aghast:
"Eat, drink and be merry – have a real blast!
By the time you read this we will be long gone-
The battle is over, we have finally won!

Our chance for love a second time round
Is such a rare gift – true love we have found!
We've put an end to this decade of madness
And this time YOU get to feel the deep sadness…
Too many years of non-stop intervention
Lies and deceit – such a bone of contention!

We've made a decision, we're cutting all ties
So sick and so fed-up of meddling and lies

Just leave us alone to start a new life,
To be happy at last – as husband and wife!

    I love it! I could never compete with that, especially if I tried to write a poem. That would be an epic fail. 😛

      @Alex ~ thanks Captain Ninja!

      @Jemi ~ so glad you could visualise it 🙂 *breathes sigh of relief*

      @Elise ~ I'm not too good when it comes to writing romance, so that's why I opted for the poem…

      @Stina ~ have you tried? You'll never know until you give it a bash… 🙂

    What a great poem! It tells a huge story in those few words. I love how the warring families converged on a party for themselves and the lovers were outta there. Awesome.

    Great Michelle, this totally bounced off the page (screen!) It seemed a bit Romeo and Juliet, glad it didn't go down that road at the end!

    Hey, Michelle,

    Sorry, I'm late to the party. I've been out and about after Mass and just now catching up with my rounds.

    You do such a good job telling a story using Poetry. I think that's awesome! I knwo I couldn't even begin to put words together in this form and have it make sense.

    Happy to see your couple prevailed over the meddling relatives. The live link is here when you're ready. http://www.joylcampbell.com/p/blog-page.html

    Thanks for participating!

  23. Mina B. on February 15, 2013 at 12:23 pm

    Awesome piece!  Loved it.  I finished Retribution and just adored it.  Next week I'll be posting my review. 🙂

  24. michelle on February 15, 2013 at 12:58 pm

    @Medeia ~ when I was in high school, my first "writerly dabblings" were poetry… you know the ones filled with teenage angst?

    @Misha ~ I was two-minded…  I contemplated a tragic ending, but then decided against it…

    @Julie ~ great idea Julie… I should investigate that angle…

    @Mina B. ~ I've been posting my reviews on Goodreads, I think I must post them on my blog as well… 🙂
