M is for MAESTRO

Welcome to Day 13 of the Third Annual A to Z Challenge!

My theme my 26 fiction posts will revolve around something musical – it could be anything, as long as it's musically-related… maybe a song title, an artist/band, musical terminology, musical instruments, words relating to sound/rhythm/movement/dance etc.

MUSICAL ASSOCIATION/CONNECTION. MAESTRO – master/teacher (Italian); it is a title of extreme respect given to a master musician/conductor.

Like a master of his game, he was tuned in and had his finger on the pulse of every process in the finely orchestrated operation.

Just like the field of cuisine (his number one passion) in which he was the master chef always on the prowl to identify the next exotic dish, he was constantly snooping around… lurking… on the lookout for his next exotic victim. There were tight specifications in this game, so he knew exactly what he was looking for. Just get one spec wrong, and he would’ve picked the wrong somebody!

He couldn’t allow that to happen. There was no room for error. No room for second chances – or second choices, for that matter. Not in this game of human trading. You had to have all your pretty duckies lined up in a row… one by one… And boy, did he have some pretty ducks all lined up and waiting to go.

They were an eclectic bunch all right, from the furthest corners of the globe, in an assortment of colours… but all with the same burning desire…

To be the next successful model.

To walk down the coveted ramps of the international world of fashion design.

To rub shoulders with the who’s who of haute couture – well sorry, they were in for a nasty surprise – more like hope couture… if they only knew…

He chuckled…

His exotic dishes were waiting to be served up… to be sampled by the connoisseurs of the industry. They had been well prepared – and the garnishing added too!

He chuckled again…

The chef-de-luxe could sit back, relax and observe exactly what results each “dish” would yield! Unfortunately… the spoiled dishes would have to be discarded.

Yes… orchestrating the cuisine in the form of human trafficking! Frightening!

Interesting, but… I got lost. You write it very well, but to go from music to cooking to fashion left my head spinning. I think if it was just two – music and fashion, say, or cooking and music, simple minds such as mine would be less confused.

    • michelle on April 14, 2012 at 10:04 pm

Sorry that you got confused Beverly. I should have included one or two more explanatory sentences which would have made it clearer. The gist is: the mastermind behind this is a food loving maniac; the exotic dishes are the variety of girls on display for human trading purposes. They think that they are being recruited as potential models… 🙂

Another good one! You can't go wrong with food and music.  (:

    • michelle on April 14, 2012 at 10:05 pm

Thanks Elise – good music, good food (you know the saying)… but in the above context, NOT good company 🙂

Yes,  I should have been more clear in my comment,  I was stuck on the exotic dishes in the literal sense. But the human trafficking and  "the spoiled dishes would have to be discarded," is frightening and also very sad.

Yes, it is… 🙁 a sad fact of life… and we only get a glimpse of the tip of the iceberg…

Are you a chef, too! Because you expressed this person's feelings so well.

    • michelle on April 14, 2012 at 10:06 pm

Not by a long shot! 🙂

The virtuoso of writing. A very well written piece. That ending got me good! Excellent.

    • michelle on April 16, 2012 at 2:08 pm

Thank you Robyn! The ending is so NOT nice… quite "gross" in fact… if I must say so myself…
