O is for Of Mist And Magic + Old Broads Waxing Poetic + Once Upon A Nightmare

O - 2016Welcome to the annual A to Z Challenge.

My theme: showcasing bloggers books, novellas, short story collections, poetry collections and some non-fiction books. The letters of the alphabet will correspond with the book title. I’ll be posting a link to my review of each book. I also have two questions for the author, just to spice things up a little.

Hopefully, visitors to my blog will be able to increase their reading lists and also get ideas for their wish lists.

Of Mist And Magic by Samantha Redstreake Geary. Read my review HERE.

Of Mist And Magic

Genre/Category: Of Mist And Magic is a book of fantasy fairy tale re-imaginings.

The book character you want to have coffee with is: Professor Rubeus Hagrid, so my daughters and I can see all his magical beasts and know where to find them!

What would you name the autobiography of your life? Of Dreams and Daring.

Old Broads Waxing Poetic by Julie Kemp Pick. Read my review HERE.

Old Broads Waxing Poetic

Genre/Category: The obvious genre for Old Broads Waxing Poetic is poetry, but it’s much more than that. Every poem tells a story about a special moment in a woman’s life that runs the gamut from embarrassing to heartwarming with a bit of whimsy mixed in between.

The book character you want to have coffee with is: Tina Fey from Bossy Pants. It would be so interesting to hear her perspective about writing Bossy Pants, as well as writing and starring in the hit TV shows 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live and the movie Mean Girls. Of course, I would pitch my mom for the lead role in the sequel, Mean Girls In Assisted Living.

What would you name the autobiography of your life? “You Had To Be There,” because often times people don’t appreciate my goofy sense of humor. That’s why I’m fortunate to have met such a warm and welcoming group of bloggers who are willing to laugh with me – I hope.

Once Upon A Nightmare by Cherie Reich. Read my review HERE.

Once Upon A Nightmare

Genre/Category: Paranormal horror/thriller.

The book character you want to have coffee with is: Hermione Granger.

What would you name the autobiography of your life? The Thousand Lives I’ve Lived in My Head.

Hi Michelle – three good ones – the one I’m particularly fond of ‘Old Broads Waxing Poetic’ – both Julie and Susan just write such wonderful stories of incidents in their worlds … and honestly you can’t do better than a good giggle, or some high follutin’ history … or of life. Cherie – I imagine writes wonderful well too … while Samantha I don’t know so much about … but good luck for their books and future writings .. cheers Hilary

I don’t generally read paranormal but I quite fancy reading Cherie Reich’s collection. My favourite fairy tale has to be Cinderalla. I will never grow bored of that story. Thanks for the post.

Interesting books, and what a great idea for a topic for the A-Z challenge 🙂

Julie does tell some really funny stories.
    Great selection today!

I think Old Broad Waxing Poetic should be the title of my autobiography if I ever get around to writing it.

I used to love reading fairy tales from all over the world when I was a girl. Not sure if I have a favorite one though.

All today’s features sound like great books to win – count me in thecynicalsailor (at) gmail (dot) com.

Many thanks for featuring our cool music anthology! And I’m in good company with Julie waxing poetic and Cherie scaring the pants off us.
    Cheers!

Thank you for mentioning Once upon a Nightmare with these other two fine books! My favorite fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast. 🙂

  9. Roland Yeomans on April 18, 2016 at 5:09 pm

My favorite fairy tale is the one I’m living. 🙂

  10. Ryan Carty on April 18, 2016 at 6:17 pm

Old broads waxing poetic would make a great TV show, and a nice addition to my collection.

Once upon a Nightmare seems really interesting. I want to read more of the Horror genre. I’ll look into it. 🙂

You keep wetting my appetite. Especially the poetry book Old Broad Waxing Poetically caught my attention and is now on my TBR.

I don’t have Old Broads Waxing Poetic yay, I’m in for the drawing. yolandarenee@hotmail.com

I do have Cherie’s book several actually, and she’s is good at the creepy, scary stuff!

I’m not sure I have a favorite fairy tale from the original list, but some of the newer ones where the heroines save the day, that works! Ever notice the bad guy in most all those tales is the stepmother? Witches, etc. The man is always the one riding to the rescue, but in real life it ain’t like that at all! Just say’n. 🙂

I love the idea of the book character you’d like to have coffee with… can I steal that idea? 🙂

Picking up lots of interesting reads to read after the challenge every time I visit your place 🙂

Favorite fairy tale would probably be Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

I’m throwing my hat in for the draw – would love to read all of them, but esp Old Broads Waxing Poetic! nilabose306b@gmail.com

Don’t write paranormal/horror too often, but that doesn’t prevent me from reading them. My favourite fairy tale would probably be The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde. Recounted to me by my mum in translation long before I could read English 🙂

I have two of those books and really need to read them. No, wait, the first book I have on my wishlist and plan to buy, but I do have Once Upon A Nightmare. =D

Michelle, Thanks for featuring Old Broads with an eclectic mix of fantasy and horror. Wait a minute, it’s all starting to make sense now! Cherie’s and Samantha’s books both sound compelling, and I’m proud to be among other “O’s” that are anything but Ordinary!

You’ve Outdone yourself with your A to Z theme this year! Thanks to everyone for your Outstanding comments! Oh, and my favorite fairy tale is also Snow White. My claim to fame was playing the wicked queen in a high school production.

Estelle Getty was the best in Golden Girls. Looking forward to the movie starring Tina Fey – Mean Girls in Assisted Living!

Excellent choices! Love Sam’s blog posts and the anthology of Old Broads Waxing Poetic is great. Congrats to Cherie as well. All deserve a read and are on the reading list.

All three books look interesting, but OLD BROADS WAX POETIC grabs my attention. I like that comment from Katherine Valentine that this should be the title of her memoir! Me too. My favorite fairy tale? Mermaids. Of course!

Of Mist and Magic sounds like an enchanting read! I love fairy tale retellings. As for my favorite fairy tale…probably Beauty and the Beast. 🙂

  25. Leslie S. Rose on April 21, 2016 at 3:44 am

That cover for OF MIST AND MAGIC has me mesmerized. Traditional F.T.: The Twelve Dancing Princesses, but my heart belongs to Peter Pan even though it’s not “officially” a fairy tale.

  26. Anne on April 21, 2016 at 1:42 pm

Of Mists and Magic sounds especially fascinating. I can’t pick a favorite fairy tale! I love Mercedes Lackey 100 Kingdoms series (I think that’s what it’s called) where they all mesh together. Yeah, definitely can’t choose.
