Odds and Ends…
Last night, I decided to go to my Facebook page, which is basically non-functional, and see if I could navigate the networking system and connect with a few "writerly" buddies. I did manage to connect with approximately 30 or so people. If I haven't discovered you yet, well… give me a little more time. It's a great networking tool, but a major time suck!!
What I did was, check out the list of friends available, and then sent a "friend request" message. Once the person on the other end accepted, then I went over to post a hello message on that page. The message was basically generic, just a: "Hello so-and-so, nice to connect with you via FB" worded piece. I must admit that I was afraid of pressing the wrong buttons or writing in the wrong place (what is the "wall"? timeline?).
I wanted to let you know that on the left-hand side of my blog, is a FB button which takes you directly to my Writer-In-Transit page, which is a seperate page from the one that I used last night. Don't ask me to explain, I don't know anything further. I just know there is a specific page for "writerly purposes". That's all I need to know. Period. Oh, and that it's functional…
The past week was quite exciting for me! I won in the Most Creative category, for my entry in Tara and Viklit's I'm Thankful For… My Readers bloghop. Thanks guys! If you didn't catch my entry, then see if you can spot your WIP characters/title in my cryptic thank you poem. You can read it here.
I also won a $10 Amazon gift card in the bloghop giveaway from Sherry Ellis over at Mama Diaries. Thanks Sherry, Bubba and Schultz!
I also received the Top Commenters Award from Murees over at Daily Drama Of An Aspiring Writer. Thanks Murees. According to the rules, I'm required to pass this award on to my top commenters. This is the part where I bend/break/alter the rules slightly. (As writers, you all know about bending/breaking writerly rules… don't you?)
I know that writers lead hectic lives, and many of you squeeze writing inbetween a million other things like day jobs, kids to look after, household chores etc. etc. It's understandable that, while bloggers would love to comment more often, time constraints don't always allow for that… So this award is for anybody who comments on my blog in the next week. Feel free to nab the badge and pass it along!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Don't forget on the 16th November – the Oh, How I Miss You Blogfest!
FB can be consuming. I just try to keep it simple. Sometimes I post. Sometimes I don't. I just liked your page so I look forward to your FB posts too!
You're right about the time-consuming factor… phew! 🙂 Thanks Mina! 🙂
Congratulations all the way around!!
I'm not on Facebook, so no idea how any of it works.
I'm using FB strictly for "writerly" purposes… there's just no time for anything else… 🙂
Congrats on all the awards! And I loved your poem 🙂
Thanks Carol. 🙂
Wow! A great week for you! Congratulations!
Yep. 🙂 And thanks for the gift, too…
Congratulations on your winnings last week! And I'll be "seeing" you on fb! 🙂
See you on FB… Twitter… in the blog-o-sphere… via e-mails… did I leave out any mediums? 🙂
That's why I don't linger on Facebook too long.
I don't intend to either! 🙂
Congratulations, Michelle. Most creative. That's pretty kewl. I finally figured out how to join Linky, and now I'm a follower. I also tagged your facebook page. Here's to a long and prosperous career in writing. Hallelujah!
Thanks a million, Joylene! 🙂 With technology, I'm learning something new every day. I suppose we all are… and my writing journey is still very young… thanks for the good wishes. You too. Keep in touch.
Congrats! I'm not a FB fan. Yeah, there's a long story, but the short end of it is, I have a really good excuse to avoid FB. But sometimes it feels because I don't have a FB account, I don't exist. You know, like if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? Well, if a person doesn't have a FB account that no one can browse through and comment on, do they really exist? Ha!
Maybe you need to set up FB strictly for "writerly purposes"… 🙂 That's my intention. I really don't want "social networking" to take up too much valuable time. As it is, blog visits consume lots of time, but those are constructive visits… :)and time well spent connecting with you lot!
My grown children basically bullied me into joining FB. They promised I would see photos of my gr-kids there. They were correct. But I still grumble.
My grown son told me I'm averse to technology… but I'm not. I'm just a slow learner when it comes to tech-related thinggies…
Ooh! Congrats on winning so many cool prizes! I loved your poem for Tara's and Viklit's blog hop!
I'm so excited! Thanks Kimberley!
Congrats on the awards and prizes.
I don't spend too much time on FB anymore. I check in briefly throughout the day and that's it.
Very wise. That explains why you are always able to meet your writerly goals! 🙂
I clicked and I liked 🙂
I appreciate and I'm smiling. 🙂
Congrats on the award – you definitely deserve it because I know that had to have been time-consuming to come up with such thoughtful ways of honoring so many bloggers.
Thanks Jocelyn – I had a blast doing so.
Basically I use FB to post pics and connect with other writers, posting and following links. By the way, I wrote on your wall Tue. 😉 Sorry I wasn’t able to find your comment, but thanks for reading!
That's what I have in mind wrt FB. I did see your comment, thanks R! 🙂 Just been sooo busy…
Congrats on all of your awards! I really loved your poem for the I'm Thankful For…Bloghop, and I'm so excited that you won for "most creative!"
Thanks Julie. It was an honour to be chosen out of so many participants! 🙂
