O is for OXYACANTHOUS

Ooh-la-la! O-Day is on! Order! Order! Order, I say! All you open-minded, outstanding, outrageous, obliging bloggers and the obstinate, obnoxious oddballs too. If only we could continuosly overflow with optimism, omit negativity and operate in the original and organised way we did when the challenge began… Ooopsy Doopsy… I don't think that's gonna happen though… Need something to keep you going? Breathe deeply and ——- Om…. om… om… om… om… om…

The PinYin A to Z Project

Yóu xì bî mò fãn yì fei huà……..

— is an old Chinese philosophy which refers to somebody who has the innate ability to decipher unusual words.

JUST JOKING.

(you can read the details about this challenge and the competition running throughout the month of April)

The word for Day 15 is—

                                                    OXYACANTHOUS

A seaweed-based emollient added to the facial mask of Revlon's latest range, especially designed for the metrosexual man on the move!

Oxycanthous – a device to help future water-breathers get oxygen from the air.

      Like a super-modernised state-of-the-art SCUBA system?

Oxycanthous is a potent drug used to stimulate regrowth of tendons and ligaments. Toxic if ingested with alcohol, coffee, or chocolate.

This is probably what the track and field athletes are taking to increase stamina and enhance performance…

A breed of dinosaur that can oxidate himself.

Lots of high profile celebs are going the metro-sexual route…  🙂 It's becoming the norm.

      It's the A to Z mid-challenge slump… that's why nothing is coming to you…  🙂

Oxyacanthous. I'm going to use my super-sluth linguistic strategies to give the REAL definition of this word: Lets start with the part of speech, which is clearly adjective (ous=dead giveaway ending). Then moving toward the head of the word, canth=Old English, negative syllable: today we say "can't" Oxy is from the Greek "Oxus" 'sharp, pointed'

So the word simply means something/ someone that can't be pointed or something/someone dull, blunted . Sentence:  When it comes to math I'm oxyacanthous.

It's so simple when you employ the right word attack skills. 🙂

You've got some crazy super-sleuth linguistic skillz C.Lee! They're almost spot on! But that means I don't get to read your weird, whacky and wonderful definition! 🙂

  7. L. Diane Wolfe on April 17, 2013 at 8:16 pm

Nothing is coming to me either.

  8. Michelle Wallace on April 17, 2013 at 8:37 pm

You've been stumped by the mid-challenge slump!

Oxyacanthous is a new drug that law enforcement doesn't want to have spread about, so I'm surprised you've learned about it. It's effects are identical to oxycontin, but it doesn't show up on any of the urine analysis drug tests. It is only identified by a blood test executed within four hours of use. Also, unfortunately, it looks nothing like oxycontin, but resembles a cotton ball, which the druggie will eat or crush up small parts to sniff the fibers.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 18, 2013 at 12:20 pm

That explains the super-enhanced performance of modern athletes… taking banned substances seems to be the craze amongst them…

    Michelle, you're too funny.

    Hugs and chocolate,

    Shelly

It's a house in Germany surrounded by millions of trees (which of course produce copious amounts of oxygen) full of Spanish singers.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 18, 2013 at 12:22 pm

German-based Spanish singers suffering from a rare disorder caused by oxygen pollution? Hahahahaha!

  12. Nick Wilford on April 17, 2013 at 11:23 pm

I've also been slumped by the stump! Something like that. Does sound like a dinosaur though.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 18, 2013 at 12:24 pm

Nick, I don't know how you are managing, especially since you have to add to that wonderful story, on a daily basis! You're amazing! 🙂

  13. Trisha on April 18, 2013 at 12:45 am

Wooot, let's overflow with optimism, shall we? 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on April 18, 2013 at 12:31 pm

      I'm with you 100%! Let's go girl! Here's to optimism! 🙂

So sorry I'm behind on my visits hon. I like this word. It makes me think of one of the many oxy-drugs/medications that are out there. Maybe this is the when the prescriber gets addicted to the drugs he/she prescribes? I know boring, but I can't think of anything this morning. Need coffee . . . (:

    • Michelle Wallace on April 18, 2013 at 12:32 pm

      No problem 🙂

      Coffee can be quite oxyacanthous… it's an addiction… 🙂

It sounds like some invertebrate animal you'd find in the sea.

Oxyacanthous: A informal saying used by men when they mumble to themselves.

Used in a sentence:  After Bertha barked at her husband, the only thing she hear him mutter was "Oxyacanthous."

    • Michelle Wallace on April 18, 2013 at 7:40 pm

… and a condition related directly to moments of spousal conflict in which the wife always has the last audible words… LOL.

  17. Beverly on April 24, 2013 at 8:47 pm

    C. Lee wins, but Nancy's sounds equally plausible.

I say Oxyacanthous is a breed of fungus belongin to the Oxymorcantiforicus family which grows mostly at high altidues where there is very little oxygen.
