P is for Power…

Welcome to your daily dose of inspiration:
In Darkness Be Light.

Since social media and news in recent times has been filled with so much hate and negativity, these simple reminders aim at promoting positivity and lightening up your day.

Power:  Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.  Leo Buscaglia

Would you like to be a part of spreading positivity? Check out the We Are The World Blogfest, which aims at promoting positive news. Here’s the shortened version:

  • Keep your post to below 500 words, as much as possible.
  • All we ask is you link to a human news story on your blog on the last Friday of each month, one that shows love, humanity, and brotherhood. Something like this news, about a man who only fosters terminally ill children.
  • Join us on the last Friday of each month in sharing news.

Too often, we take life for granted. We don’t give anything a second thought. Imagine how many lives can be changed by a small act of caring?

So true, Michelle. We can underestimate the simple things, not realizing the inherent power within. 🙂

I just read a poem that Deborah Weber shared on her blog that seems really fitting for this. I’ll link it here, because it’s a beautiful poem. In Praise of Small Kindnesses

Thanks Michelle – the small things that count are so powerful and meaningful.

We really do have the power to spread kindness and love, don’t we? Great post, Michelle.

Hi Michelle – it is the power of understanding how that extra smile, the being prepared to wait, the attention to small details – are all essential to helping others get through … we all have power we can share. Cheers Hilary

A good reminder. When we intentionally move through the world with loving-kindness it’s as though we become part of the flow. It doesn’t take extra effort, or huge amounts of “doing” – we can simply be more present, more responsive, more at ease in a world that seems so desperately in need of that.

Michelle, I love your theme. And goodness, I have an example from the just the other day where this reminder was needed so badly.

This is so true. When something nice is done for me, like the simple act of opening a door by a friend or stranger, I smile and say thank you. So, you see it can be a two-way street. It also reminds me of the commercials where someone does something nice and it radiates out to others.

A genuine smile lifts my spirits much higher than the floweriest compliment. While a compliment offers an opinion (you look nice today; that is a lovely dress), a smile is a sharing of a person’s inner peace.

I do believe there is no greater power in the universe, than love. 🙂

I wish I could believe in the power of love to trump hate. I am not so sure anymore, as we dangle on the verge of possible extinction.
