Quiet Diplomacy
This is a response to the 100 Word Challenge which is hosted over at Velvet Verbosity. This week the word is – QUIET.
The uneasy quiet was a living, breathing creature.
"Where to from here?" She was always direct.
His face revealed nothing. "It's probably too late…" a convenient sigh, as if on cue.
The bastard. What a nerve, thinking it was that simple. "You never talk," she said aloud.
Next to the remnants of a half-eaten dinner, the candle flickered.
"What do you want me to say?" He was seldom disagreeable. Typical Mr. Quiet.
"Something? Anything! Curse! Swear!" She shrugged. It didn't matter, after all.
He smiled, the true master of verbal diplomacy.
The tiny microphone pressed softly against her shoulder blade…
I love when you do these random things. Nicely done. Hope you're saving them. Maybe they can all be interlaced into a great American novel.
Imagine all my snippets of writing culminating in a great novel… ? *smiles* Hold that thought Shelly… stranger things have been known to happen LOL 🙂
i like the rage combined with the last line. really well written. i liked it.

Thanks Lance – great to meet you. I’m off to check out your your blog shortly.
You have a great ability to say a lot in few words. That's skill!
Thank you for the vote of confidence, Victoria. I’m learning more and more every day… it’s an ongoing process… it never ends!
oooooh – intriguing!
More than meets the eye…you think it is just a couple having a disagreement…but that last line…hmmmm, what could she be trying to get him to say?
I like the twist at the end
@ Barbara ~ thanks for swinging by!
@ Carrie ~ great observation… and that’s the burning question… what could she be trying to get him to say?
I like the little twist with the microphone. Very intriguing.
There’s nothing better than an unexpected twist to wrap up a scene! Thanks Tara.
The microphone immediately made me reread to look for more clues…
Robin
… and did you find any? *smiles*
All I’m saying is… she hoped for a response… something substantial… revealing… that could be recorded… enough said for now!
You came out swinging with this one. The many variations of betrayal and revenge.
Thanks V.V. Glad you enjoyed it.
