R is for Raindrops Rock ‘n Roll

Day 18 of the challenge!

My theme is NIFTY NUGGETS. Little nuggets of writing, based on a photo, a phrase and an object, which is designed to encourage lean, tight writing. I’m aiming for a word count of under 300 words.

Thank you to L.Diane Wolfe for providing the beautiful photo prompts.  You can visit her blog to check out more pictures.

RAINDROPS ROCK 'N ROLL

RAINDROPS ROCK ‘N ROLL

PHRASE – dressed to the nines

OBJECT – billboard

The first thing he saw was the billboard. At the corner of Moore and West Street, just before the off ramp leading to the Southern highway, its black and white picture juxtaposed against the imposing glass building that jutted skyward, on the former location of the trendiest nightspot that side of town.

Raindrops on the go let’s rock and roll!

They’d brave the adverse weather conditions to be a part of the in-crowd. Nobody wanted to be left out of the weekly rock ‘n roll burn out. Of all the girls in their clique, she was the most energetic. Her natural rhythm and style put her above the rest.

Always dressed to the nines, with shapely legs extending from her mini-skirt and a stylish pageboy beneath a matching pillbox hat, she was the 60’s poster girl. During the evening a boa feather complemented a glamorous sheath which hugged her figure.

Raindrops on the go let’s rock and roll!

The catchphrase stuck, throughout the year, in all weather conditions – sunny, raining or hailing.

Always on the go and boy, they could rock and roll long and hard!

They were on top of the world. Invincible. LSD became a much needed companion in an attempt to expand their minds, harness a collective energy, try and gain deeper insight into this amazing world they had discovered.

Raindrops on the go let’s rock and roll…

Till it spiralled out of control…

The black and white drug awareness billboard campaign greeted him on arrival.

Back in the city of his youth.

The city he loved.

The city he never thought that he would leave behind.

But he had unfinished business to attend to…

Excellent flash. Sounds like things got a little out of control for them at one point.

That’s what happens when you think you’re invincible…

Great image, and I love anything that describes raindrops, a rainy landscape, etc. 😉

I loved the picture and the catchy phrase, a sad tale though.

I would dance in the rain.

Very nice little piece! I love rain so long as it’s above about 50 degrees (and the wind is under control)

I wish I could capture a picture like that. The grays are perfect for the stormy story.

When it comes to photography, I don’t think I’m any good.

Yep, when we’re young we’re nine feet tall and bulletproof, never thinking about consequences. Good story.

When it comes to drugs, there are always long term repercussions… often in more ways than one.
