S is for Slithering Savvy

Day 19 of the challenge!

My theme is NIFTY NUGGETS. Little nuggets of writing, based on a photo, a phrase and an object, which is designed to encourage lean, tight writing. Iโ€™m aiming for a word count of under 300 words.

Thank you to L.Diane Wolfe for providing the beautiful photo prompts.ย  You can visit her blog to check out more pictures.

SLITHERING SAVVY

SLITHERING SAVVY

PHRASE – as different as chalk and cheese

OBJECT – micro-chip

Kevin is the enigma, marching to the beat of an alien drummer, like a robot controlled by the micro-chip implanted in its brain. Karl is predictable, an open book from beginning to end.

Itโ€™s a constant effort to manage two individuals, born two minutes apart, but as different as chalk and cheese. So where is the perfect image of the twins with the magical bond, who cling to one another and feel unhappy when they are apart?

I wonder, how can one be ignorant, protective and honest; the other boisterous, sly and savvy? Kevin slithers along the pathways of life, always in attack mode, coiled and ready to pounce at the first opportunity.

Trouble follows him everywhere. After a series of minor transgressions, my nerves are stretched taut just waiting to snap.

The first prank… amusing. Relegated to the level of childhood mischief.

The second incident… alarming. Categorised as boyhood experimentation.

And thatโ€™s excluding the endless white lies and misdemeanours.

My prayers for a respite have not been granted.

Now the boys face the headmaster for the third time in six months.

This time, Kevin has a smirk on his face, while all evidence points to Karl as the guilty party.

Wonder which one is really the transgressor? Or was Karl set up? Or did they do it together? Many questions…

Hi Michelle – the vagaries of twins – can be so completely different, yet some so completely the same … yang and yin, war and peace … I suspect Kevin’s just been a good framer .. cheers Hilary

Sounds like the intro to a horror novel with the evil twin. How did L. Diane get so close to the snake for that picture.

Twins will eventually become friends. After :he did it…no, he did it… They will eventually become partners in arms.

Over here from the A to Z.

      I agree.
At the end, they’ll stick together, no matter what the outcome.

There’s a lot of leeway for trouble when you’re one of a set of twins.

Sounds like an interesting story. It’s fun when twins aren’t exactly alike.

I love that picture of the snake!

Oooooo, Kevin is the one to watch out for! I have seen that look many, many times as a teacher! Haha.
