Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!
Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer – aim for a dozen new people each time.
Don’t forget to visit them and thank them for co-hosting!
Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.
Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.
Remember, the question is optional!
May 04th Question: It’s the best of times; it’s the worst of times. What are your writer highs (the good times)? And what are your writer lows (the crappy times)?
Flash fiction always gives me an adrenalin rush so that would have to be my highs!!
And the lows? Just write more flash fiction until the crappy times pass…
I actually unearthed a flash fiction piece written many years ago which I’ll share with you. Enjoy!
BOTTLED-UP HUMOUR
Each bottle craved the coveted central position in the bar.
“I should be given first preference!” Mr. Scotch Whiskey silenced everyone.
“It doesn’t really matter,” purred Madame Chardonnay, “as long as I’m kept away from direct sunlight.” Inwardly, she shuddered at the thought of being in close proximity to the loud, foul-mouthed Don Juan Tequila.
“What’s the fuss? I deserve it!” drawled Don Juan, winking at the hardened Sir Guinness Stout. The tall, elegant Chardonnay peered down her nose at his short, stumpy frame.
Without warning, the pompous Monsieur Cognac, resplendent in a baccarat crystal bottle, emerged from a red velvet box.
Game over!
HAPPY IWSG DAY! My week days are hectic, so I’ll be visiting blogs over the next few days and also over the weekend.
Funny!
Just keep after that flash fiction.
Fun flash!
Lovely. Well done. 🙂

Great flash story! I love it 🙂
Hard to compete with that crystal bottle and red velvet box. 🙂
I love that you get such a rush out of writing flash fiction. I’ve never had much luck with it, but I really admire those who can pull it off.
Cognac should stay in his friggin’ box.
Yes! Flash fiction can be so much fun, both to read and to write.
Thanks for sharing your awesome flash fiction. It’s great your flash fiction helps you through the low points.
Funny story, Michelle! My days are hectic, too, so IWSG Day usually spills over into the days following it for me as well. I never dreamed that I’d be so busy in retirement ~ lol. Have an awesome May!
Just keep writing, writing!
This reminds me of a story I grew up with- Miss Mandy’s Candy Shop. The candies would have arguments at night over who was the superiot treat, complete with jealously over the coveted position in the case for kids to see. I loved you flash fiction! It was fun.
I enjoy writing flash fiction as well. But I always have trouble with the word count, always go a bit beyond the requested number. Fortunately for me, my preferred flash fiction venue, WEP, is very tolerant of such things. And ever positive comment I get is a small high, a boost in confidence.
Hi Michelle – love your story re the ‘booze’ bottles … really clever. Life goes on doesn’t it – I’ve got lots going on and am behind in putting up another post – I’ll get there … and good luck to you with all you do – cheers Hilary
Flash fiction all the way! 🙂
Great flash!
Since I was off playing last month, I was glad to get this chance to stop in for your May post. Great fun!
