Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!
Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer – aim for a dozen new people each time.
Don’t forget to visit them and thank them for co-hosting!
Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.
Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say. Remember, the question is optional!
November 02nd Question: November is National Novel Writing Month. Have you ever participated? If not, why not?
I’ve never done NaNo! There are many reasons: – I write too slow. This is the main reason. – This time of the year is really hectic at school as we prepare for final exams and prize-giving ceremonies. So the day job clashes with NaNoWriMo. – The thought of 50 000 words in a month for ONE project scares me. However, I’ve read about the NaNoWriMo Rebels – you know those people who adapt the rules to suit themselves? Maybe I could be a rebel and spread 50K amongst a few projects. That could possibly work for me. So maybe I’ll still get to do a NaNo.
I’ll leave you with a beautiful video. It’s a rendition of Ave Maria, performed by one of my ex-students who is studying voice and is currently in her fourth year, specialising in Baroque Opera. In 2019, she travelled to Europe with the KZN Youth Choir and they won first place in their category at the Suma Cum Laude Competition in Vienna, Austria. She won the award for Best Soprano. I’m so proud of her! An amazing voice for a 22-year-old! Truly angelic!
Happy IWSG Day! I’ll pop around to visit some blogs over the next few days.
Oh, wow. She makes that look so effortless. Such a gorgeous voice.
I hear you about the hectic month (like they could have picked several other months that would have been soooooo much better) and the hard pace of writing for us slower writers. I’m always a rebel at heart, so fully support the breakaways that find some way to turn this month into their best outcome. Good luck with your projects!
It’s so great to be able to watch people we care about succeed! Good job to your ex-student!
I’ve been a rebel a few times with NaNo. Sometimes it helps just to work on whatever you want to work on in the moment rather than forcing yourself into just one project.
NaNo Rebel with a cause, or just because. November is a terrible month to have a contest that requires so much time. But I guess NaJaWriMo or NaFeWriMo or any of the other months didn’t work well for a name. Ahh, marketing wins, and practicality loses.
Hi Michelle – she’s got a beautiful voice … no wonder she did so well and apparently is achieving much. Your choice of being a teacher offers so much to the world … I’m sure you could do NaNo including all your work as a teacher without actually signing up for it and worrying in the process. Stunning video – so pleased you posted for us … cheers Hilary
She has a beautiful voice!
Be a rebel! Half the people doing NaNo are being rebels. Make it fit for you.

I’d have to be a rebel to do NaNo.

Thanks for sharing the video.
Beautiful performance! And the voice is simply stunning.

Wow, what a transcendental voice!
What a gorgeous voice! She makes it look easy, which I know it isn’t.
