The Insecure Writer’s Support Group ~ No#139
Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!
Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer – aim for a dozen new people each time.
The awesome co-hosts for the June 05th posting of the IWSG are: are: Liza at Middle Passages, Shannon Lawrence, Melissa Maygrove, and Olga Godim!
Don’t forget to visit them and thank them for co-hosting!
Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.
Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.
Remember, the question is optional!
June 05th Question: In this constantly evolving industry, what kind of offering/service do you think the IWSG should consider offering to members?
Firstly, it’s wonderful to be back on my blog after a hectic year, where I felt overworked, underpaid and didn’t know which direction I should take.
Life became crazy!! I was the hamster on that wheel, just going round and round, with more input but less and less time and energy as the months passed.
I decided that, after 37 years, it was time to quite full-time teaching in the classroom, and so I did. At the end of March, I finished off. The plan was to transition to the online platform as a TEFL teacher. I had already been doing my research for more than a year before I quit.
Online teaching is a different beast. I’ve learned tons of new technological thinggies! There are so many teaching platforms, like Zoom, Classin, Voov, Classgap, Learncube – the list goes on and on.
I’m working with a Chinese online language school and will branch out as time goes by. The greatest challenge (for me) has been to adjust to the camera. But I’ve made great progress. It’s not a one-size-fits-all pathway; it’s a process you have to take one day at a time.
This change means I can spend more time on my writing! An exciting thought!!
Actually, I wrote 2000 words yesterday! I’ve never written 2000 words in one sitting – ever!
I also plan to get back to my reading (which has been sorely neglected) and also look forward to visiting your blogs again – I’ve really missed the community.
With regards to the monthly question…
I’ve noticed that loads of writers sign up for Zoom get-togethers where they participate in various activities, for example, 30 minutes of timed writing, and so on. Maybe it can be on a voluntary basis, similar to the monthly co-hosting of our blog hop. I think that a poll would be the way to find out what members want and I’m eager to read what other members have to say.
Happy IWSG Day! I’ll see you on your blog!
Congrats on taking a leap in a new direction (ish). It sounds fun, and it’s great you can spend more time writing. 2000 words is a wonderful start – here’s to many more words!
Michelle! It’s wonderful to have you back. I’m glad you transitioned and are writing up a storm again.
I can comment!
Well done! I don’t think I’ve ever written two thousand in one day either.
We are excited to have you back.
Zoom meetings have been mentioned several times today, so it’s something we need to look into.
2000 words in one sitting? Wow. I am seriously impressed and, as I so often say, as a reader writers are my heroes. Thank you.
Congratulations! So excited for you! 🙂
Yay for a change in jobs that gives you more time. I bet you’ll love the online stuff 🙂
WOW! A big change, but it should like a good one. Congrats and congrats on writing 2000 words!
Congrats on your new path! I agree that Zoom events could be a nice addition.
You did have quite a year, but you didn’t give up on your admin duties, so I applaud you for that and for getting back on track with your writing.
